21.01.2022 The Wellness Couch Where Science meets Ancient wisdom Thursday 10th Sept , 6.30-7.30pm With Brett & Caterina Morrison Present:... Stress, Trauma, Anxiety - Tools to help you cope during the Pandemic Lockdown. Experts have said the extended lockdown in Victoria which are forcing people to live in a state of isolation is having a significant impact on mental health. During the first lockdown, calls to Lifeline increased by more than 20 per cent and anecdotal stories from those living under the strict COVID-19 measures highlighted loneliness and lack of emotional outlets as key struggles. We know the current situation is causing stress and uncertainty for many. We want to remind everyone that it is okay to ask for help for yourself or for someone else. Help is always available. We all have a responsibility to promote and encourage mental wellbeing our own and others. That is what we will be doing tonight. Acting now, paying attention to mental wellbeing and accessing support and tools when needed would help avoid a spike in distress in months to come. We'll be chatting to Professor Alex Parker (MPsych, PHD -Professor of Physical Activity and Mental Health) to help foster solutions. Alex is a clinical psychologist with extensive clinical experience in youth mental health services. Alex leads the Healthy and Inclusive Communities research program within the Institute for Health and Sport (IHES) at Victoria University. Her research group aims to measure, understand, and promote exercise and physical activity to optimise mental wellbeing and prevent and treat mental illness. Alex is leading the Mental Health Research Consortium at VU which aims to address the high prevalence of physical and mental health concerns through behaviour and lifestyle interventions, including physical activity, sleep and nutrition. Since COVID-19 took hold in early March the consortium took to working and studying remotely. Alex has been leading a daily online mental health and wellbeing program to help VU staff and students to feel supported, connected and address the extraordinary challenges brought on by the pandemic. Found in my clinic draws - They're new - so of course she needs to approve them. Is it a yes or no for clinics to have pets? What do you think? Most patients adore her. She has been known to push open the door and jump onto massage table whilst patient is there. Maybe they are coming to see her after all ... #naturopath #catsofinstagram #healinganimals

08.01.2022 Onion Weed (Allium triquetrum) Some may view this as a weed, but I like to think of them as medicine that will help transition us to a sustainable future foraging wild food or medicine. These medicines are also coming up along paths in all their glorious Spring days. Delicious substitute for spring onions, garlic or chives when eaten fresh. Their aroma lifts your spirits as you walk past them asking you to pay attention to them. ... The whole plant is edible - from flower to bulb. There are some great ways to preserve them: Fermented: Harvest away from popular paths that may have been sprayed. Wash thoroughly, always chop off roots as soil and fermentation can leave funny tastes behind. Place in a clean jar with a 2% of brine (salted water) leaving it out of sunlight to ferment for a month. Pickled: Washing thoroughly- you may select the whole plant or certain parts. Boil 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup water with a tbspn of salt. Store in a glass jar and refrigerate overnight. Ready next day to eat. Alternately you can allow flavour to maximise to your taste. Great for up to 2-3 weeks. Dried: Drying medicinal herbs guareentee that you have a stash throughout the year. You can roast the onions for a few hours in an oven set at 150 c. Alternately if you have a dehydrator - leave whole fir a crunchy garnish ir grind with pink himalayan salt for a tasty onion salt.

06.01.2022 This statement is one of my greatest pet peeves. I've heard it uttered with tones of dismissive certitude intended to deflect any further invitation toward tru...e healing. Because healing isn't about "fixing" or an intervention that "worked." And natural medicine isn't about "green alternatives." It's not fish oil vs Prozac. Your symptoms, or your child's symptoms, are personal, meaningful, and are, most assuredly not, themselves, the problem. Or even, a problem, at all. Except that we have been conditioned to experience the body as a menacing, unpredictable, and uncooperative adversarial companion we have been charged with controlling. So, don't "try natural stuff." Turn toward your body and open up a curious, loving discourse. Listen to what it might be asking, because the answer is never in a supplement or an allopathic-mindedly administered remedy. It may be that your chronic pelvic pain is tissue-born trauma from years of abuse. That your cough is an incompatibility with processed cow's milk. Or that your chest pains are the grief and stress of a life devoid of joy and sensual pleasure. Your body is not only your greatest ally, but also your guru. It doesn't need half-hearted attempts at "natural remedies," offered from the consciousness of *if it's serious, it needs emergency rooms, meds, and "real" interventions*. Your body needs your love, attention, and your deep commitment to answering the questions in your life that only you can answer. @thankyoubodyrally #thankyoubodyrally #thankyoubody

05.01.2022 Fruit and vegetables should be free of processing aids as they are NOT processed foods! Fresh produce should be that exactly! Aside from that anyone should be able to know when they are inadvertently consuming something which contravenes their moral and ethical food choices. If they want to put unnatural substances on my food then it should be clearly stated so I can make a choice . Is this what you want done to your fruit and veg? FSANZ have referred to this as a glazing a...gent, the additive in question is 471 Mono and Di glycerides of fatty acids. Usually used in food as an emulsifier or stabiliser. This will be used as a processing aid and you wont know its being used. This additive can be derived from animals )so if you are vegetarian, vegan you may be unknowingly consuming animal products) It can also be derived from palm oil.
