22.01.2022 It was a bit smokey up here yesterday as the bushfire made it to 1.5km's north of us before the winds died down last night. We could see blue sky again this morning, but as the winds pick up the front is forecast to reach us today. Guests have been evacuated and those due to arrive today have been contacted. A huge thank you to the Rural Fire Service and Queensland Parks and Wildlife services who have a huge amount of trucks, equipment and manpower onsite helping us get ready.

14.01.2022 As of 5pm yesterday, new campers and visitors are unable to access Fraser Island as fire conditions are expected to worsen over the weekend. At this stage, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has not advised how long access will be restricted. We will provide further updates as they become available but are hopeful the closure won’t last too long. We have contacted all guests due for arrival in the coming week, and will continue to do so as the situation changes. At this stage, the island’s major attractions including Champagne Pools, Eli Creek and Lake McKenzie have been unaffected. We really appreciate and value your support and look forward to welcoming guests back to the island soon.

11.01.2022 Rain on the roof has never sounded so sweet! 23 mm last night should help the firies. There’s a chance of more showers today and again later in the week. Thank you to everyone offering support over the past few weeks. We remain hopeful the island will reopen for visitors soon. It is amazing to see how quickly the vegetation is recovering. This shot was taken on the way to Wathumba about 4 weeks after the fire moved through.

11.01.2022 We're open again! While fires continue to burn across the Island, conditions have eased and the immediate danger to Cathedrals has passed. The campground was undamaged, although a little smokey, and fire crews remain on standby. Thank you everyone for your support and well wishes, we hope to see you soon! Jack, Michelle, Maggie and the team.

10.01.2022 Borders opening for Northern NSW from 1 October, so get yourself to Cathedrals on Fraser any way you can!

07.01.2022 As a bushfire burns on Fraser Island, businesses in the holiday hotspot are pleading for visitors to keep their Christmas bookings. They want tourists to know the island is open and it's safe. #9News | Weeknights from 5.30pm

06.01.2022 Last night, 200m south of Cathedrals on Fraser. Frogs don't seem to mind!?

05.01.2022 Thanks to a successful backburn conducted by QPWS last night, our campground is now protected from fire in all directions. While the fire continues to burn to our south, so far all of the island's infrastructure and major attractions remain unaffected. Our thoughts are now with Kingfisher Bay Resort and everyone at Happy Valley.

04.01.2022 Blue sky and no smoke at Cathedrals today. Water bombing again this afternoon to our north-west. Go get 'em Huey!

04.01.2022 We're open (again)! The fire reached our driveway yesterday, and with the help of 2 water bombers, Rurals and QPWS, it didn't cross the road. They successfully back-burned around us last night and this morning we woke to 14mm of rain and beautiful clean air! no damage to any property or vegetation within the park, which is a big relief. Huge thanks to East Booral Rural Fire Brigade, Howard/Torbanlea Rural Fire Brigade, Happy Valley Rural fire Brigade, all the QPWS firefighters and everyone else involved behind the scenes. P.S. the island is safe to visit, none of the major attractions have been burned and the only evidence of the fire visitors are likely to see is burnt vegetation on dunes north of Cathedrals, and at some QPWS campsites on the west coast. Look forward to seeing you all soon!

03.01.2022 The fire has zigzagged its way down the island leaving lots of pockets of unburnt vegetation; a refuge for animals escaping the blaze. Champagne Pools was magic yesterday. The fire didn’t reach this section of the coast. While the fire continues to move through the central and western parts of the island, we are hopeful access to the east coast (including our campground) will reopen to visitors in the coming days. We will keep you posted!

03.01.2022 We survived another day thanks to the help of 5 water bombers. Rurals and QPWS firefighters still on standby. The fire's not behaving as the models predict, making it difficult to manage. Thanks once again for your support everyone!

01.01.2022 Fraser Island re-open’s tomorrow! While all of the island’s major attractions (including Lake McKenzie, Central Station, Lake Wabby, Eli Creek, the Maheno and Champagne Pools) were unaffected by the fires, visitors should be aware that some areas require assessment by QPWS prior to reopening. Hope to see you soon!
