15.01.2022 Home shopping! Children struggle to confidently work with and understand the value of money because of the plastic society we work in. So the more opportunities with give them to identify and calculate with Australian coins the better. Here is an activity with a year 4 where she is asked to estimate by rounding to identify if she has enough money to buy the contents on a shopping list. She then calculates the total needed. To take it further for older children suggest that there is a 10% sale of the total price and ask will $20 then cover the cost of the list? Proove it! For younger children .. How many ways can you make ...$1 or $2

13.01.2022 We can set up shops at home to encourage children to estimate and calculate with money. Children often struggle with idenifying the value of and calculating with money because of the plastic society we work in. By setting up shops and real life scenarios we can get the children familiar with the value of coins and give them confidence in calculating with money.

12.01.2022 Create an obstacle course outside or inside and get the children to draw a map explaining what to do without using words. This encourages them to use and give directions and to draw and interpret maps which they are asked to do in our Victorian Mathematics Curriculum. (Ignore the dog!)

12.01.2022 Who has some dominoes in the toy basket that is not getting played with. Haul them out because here are some simple but fun addition and subtractions games you can play with them with suggestions for prep to six.
