19.01.2022 Just completed a design for a brand new garden, and very exciting to work with a blank date and an enthusiastic garden lover. Been a challenge to select fast growing native plants that will create privacy and screening without getting too big: often predicted sizes on websites are inaccurate for local conditions. Can’t wait to see it GROW

15.01.2022 The only thing better than a good strong hedge in garden design is a double one! This one has been established with regular English box (Buxus sempervirens) in front and the more vigorous Lonicera nitida (box honeysuckle) behind. The Lonicera needs more regular clipping through spring and summer but they make a formal statement together. You could try a double flowering hedge with Hebe, teamed up with a pittosporum or Luma apiculata. A white flowered Hebe would look spectacular in front of a white Sasanqua camellia hedge: slow growing but worth the wait. All hedges do need regular pruning to stay tight and dense. A great time of year to get this structured planting sorted.

08.01.2022 Here is a great plant! I am a bit tired of box hedges, which are perfect in an English Garden setting but can be overused. This little Aussie native is Leptospermum laevigatum ‘foreshore’. This particular plant has been out in a sunny, windy, dry position for about 3 years and is looking lush: a great dense small shrub. Prune lightly twice a year.
