25.01.2022 Maureen Thompson was the wonderful artist behind two of the paintings featured in our Aboriginal Artist Project over the years. The vivid 'Spring Country' and 'Witchety Grub'. Maureen spent much of her life in Ngukurr, South East Arnhem Land. She started painting after watching Willie Gudabi and his wife Moima paint. She was a senior member of Ngukurr Arts with many stories to tell and paint in her own distinctive style. 24.01.2022 Meet Gwenneth Blitner - the talented artist behind the beautiful 'Bush Flower' painting. Gwenneth Blitner has lived in Ngukurr her whole life. She was born in the old Roper River Mission and was educated at the bush school. She learned painting from her brothers Glen and Donald Blitner and she now paints every day. In bright, bold strokes, Gwenneth paints the landscape of Ngukurr, especially flowers and hills. Gwenneth often closes her eyes before she begins a painting. She says, I like to think about this place and paint more.

14.01.2022 Amy Jirwlurr Johnson, the talented artist behind 'Running Spring Water' - a long time favourite feature of our Aboriginal Artist Project. Amy was from Ngukurr in South East Arnhem Land, NT. Ngukurr artists are famous for exploring new painting styles and techniques and recontextualising them to become something wholly unique. She often depicted scenes of plants and animals in her local landscape, in vibrant and contrasting colours. Her deep love and appreciation of her homel...and and awareness of the intricate cycles of plant and animal life, is manifested in her work. These works reflect innocence and happiness as well as bright colours, which have become one of Jiwulurr’s trademarks. 05.01.2022 Meet Mary Brumby, the wonderful artist behind 'Tali Sandhills' featured on many of our designs. Mary is from the Iwantja Arts, Indulkana Community in Alice Springs. When we were tji tji’s (children) we were all playing in the water at Iwantja Creek, me and all the other kids. We all grew up in wiltja’s (handmade shelter) down at that creek; my family wiltja was made of really big trees and had tjanpi grass as a bed and we would put more tjanpi on top of us for a blanket. I ...have travelled all over Australia for meetings, for singing, and to do special inma (cultural dance and songs.) I have been an artist at Iwantja Arts for a very long time, and I remember stories about my country that my family taught me. 03.01.2022 Evelyn Pultara is a wonderful Australian indigenous artist from the Utopia region. Her paintings are held and have been shown in various major Australian art galleries. Evelyn’s most recent work portray the Pencil Yam totem (Antwelarr) which in recent years has won her international acclaim as a contemporary artist. Evelyn tells the story of her Bush Yams painting: An important part of woman’s role in traditional aboriginal culture is to collect bush foods. Carrying bowls... (Coolamons) are used to collect the seeds of plants, flowers and bulbs. Wild yams, onions, tomatoes, beans, cherries and plums provide ideal sustenance for desert dwellers.
