16.01.2022 Do you know why an instrument made in the 16th century is still loved in the 21st Century? Highly adaptable, the violin rejoices us in many ways. It develops our awareness, brings a sense of pride and accomplishment, is easily carried around, and enables the player to bond with the instrument by the way we hold it on our heart side. More and more adult learners challenge themselves to start learning the violin, and fall in love with the instrument and everything it offers. But this does not mean children can’t appreciate it too. In fact, the attraction to the instrument can sometimes be very strong. Fascinating isn’t it?
16.01.2022 Would you like to know MY SECRET to be a great teacher? ......... Enjoy the lesson as much as you would like your student to enjoy it. Have fun teaching, be happy to be there, at this very moment, playing music with a student. ... P.S: Plus of course, heaps of experience and knowledge to pass on, at the right time.

13.01.2022 To make your practice more efficient, a good option is to choose a goal for the week, a main intention to your practice. Continue your usual warm ups and exercises, keeping your main goal in mind during each session. For example: - keeping a close eye to the thumb position under the bow... - checking your elbow height when changing strings - anticipating - finding your inner balance in violin playing position - making your bow playing more alive... Discuss with your teacher the most appropriate goal for you to achieve each week. And don’t forget to celebrate your achievement at the end of the week!
12.01.2022 Please like and subscribe to my YouTube channel when you have a moment, thank you so much for your support! Any review or comment, subscription and likes are so much appreciated! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6EQWcTUGc5NrQ-xOTcDy9Q
10.01.2022 Each time you challenge yourself, you make a step forward, whether you think you failed or succeeded. Learning to walk, to speak, play the violin, or perform in public speaking; we trip, we make mistakes, so we learn. My challenge this week was rewarding indeed. I had butterflies in my tummy, I had a rush of Adrenalin, and I learned so much! Performing in public is a challenge that all musicians confront, and it’s part of the fun!
10.01.2022 The weekend.... best time to practice, enjoy the comfort of having plenty of time, get your pets around you, a fresh glass of water, and.... Go go go! P.S: make it fun!
08.01.2022 Feeling happy to have such wonderful students who are dedicated to their violin, kind and talented at the same time!
08.01.2022 We don’t mention this item very often, yet the music stand is a must to achieve proper posture while practicing. Ensure the student is facing the stand (shoulders and feet facing forward and neck aligned) for a healthy back and neck. Stands come in various colours, some can be folded to carry around, some are made of metal and some wooden ones can even bring an atmosphere to a room. Which kind of stand do you have?
07.01.2022 Video 5 is up on YouTube! I have been asked to make more videos so I shall work on it over the next few weeks. Enjoy your playing, always. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Pd07RLGnYI&t=2s
07.01.2022 Our website has been updated today, it’s a great source of information concerning our classes and teaching methods. We also do violin rentals now! As usual, don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need any help with your instrument from tuning to changing strings.... http://www.cairnsviolinstudio.com.au/
07.01.2022 Music reading offers independence to the musician, enabling the execution of a new piece by just looking at the notes rather than having to hear them. It represents a major part of learning any instrument, and should not be neglected. When learning violin technique, many students face the challenge of a different learning curve between the violin and reading skills acquisition. At this point, what usually happens is the violinist’s progression is slowed down by the tedious notes reading skills. As a teacher, I dissociate the two skills when necessary, to gradually rejoin the two when the time comes. Neither of these skills should come in the way to progression.
07.01.2022 Check this up... Warming up is part of our daily routine, Do not skip it! Gentle wrists warm up, neck and shoulders stretches, will protect you from injuries.... Then pick up your violin and begin slowly and not loud. Gradually increasing speed and volume. Note: The exercises in this video have been played at fast motion. Check with your doctor if needed before doing these exercises, and always listen to your body. Go slowly and carefully. The neck is a fragile part of the body and takes up a lot of stress during violin playing. Check out for more posts on warm up and warm down exercises to enjoy your daily practice safely! 06.01.2022 Out on YouTube now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBRuxx-AMVw
05.01.2022 Cherish your instrument. Take a special moment to look at your violin/viola and give it love. Keep it clean, wipe the rosin dust off it each time after playing. ... Use your weekend to polish it now and then. Only use high quality products. Check with your teacher, there is a special product for the varnish, one for the fingerboard, for the strings... it’s your role to maintain and love your instrument. Don’t forget your bow. Only clean the bow stick, do not touch the hair with any product other than rosin. Remember, humidity and temperature also affect it. Never leave it in a hot car or under the sun or direct aircon. Use a Dampit or put a humid sponge in the box when the weather is very dry (not in direct contact with the instrument whatsoever). Always touch your instrument with dry clean hands and try to avoid touching any varnished surfaces. Below: string cleaner, polish, soft cotton cloth, Dampit ... and my beautiful antique French Violin and bow.
