18.01.2022 St Josephs Catholic College extends a warm welcome to our new parish priest, Father Mark McGuinness msc. Below is a little about Father Mark and his previous m...inistries. I was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1959 (on what was then the Feast of Mary, Queen of Heaven but is now the Feast of the Visitation). The fifth child of eight (5 boys, 3 girls). I was educated by the Josephite Sisters, the Dominican Sisters and the Salesian Priests and Brothers. I studied to be an accountant whilst working for the Hydro-Electric Commission for 10 yrs. In 1986 I went to Navarre House, Drummoyne in NSW and began studies for priesthood. I attended the Catholic Theological Union in Hunters Hill and gained a Bachelor of Theology and further studies led to a Grad. Dip. Theology majoring in ethics. I was professed as an MSC in 1988 and was ordained priest on 1st July 1994 in my home parish of Moonah in Tasmania. At the beginning of 1994, I was appointed to the NT and commenced ministry as a chaplain/teacher at St Johns College in Darwin and Deacon at St Pauls Church Nightcliff Parish. I continued at St Johns College until the end of 1998. From 1996 to 1998 I also cared for the Parish of Jabiru in Kakadu National Park. During 1999 I was asked by Bishop Collins to spend some time in all the parishes across the NT (except Darwin urban parishes). In 2000, I was appointed to Wadeye (Port Keats) where I remained until the end of 2004. In 2005 I worked on a project at the MSC Provincial House for six months and then spent the remainder of that year in the Parish of the East Coast of Tasmania. From 2006 to the end of 2008 I was Parish Priest of Henley Beach Parish, a suburb of Adelaide. In 2009 I was asked to go to Monivae College, Hamilton in the Western District of Victoria as the Director of Faith and Mission and Chaplain. I was there for six years until the end of 2014. I was appointed to the NT by the MSC Provincial and Bishop Hurley asked me to go to Katherine as acting parish priest for 2015. MAGPIE my dog, (yes I am a Collingwood supporter) has been my constant companion since 2003. She is a native of the NT, coming from Wadeye. I am looking forward to my time in Katherine and surrounds.

03.01.2022 Secondary students participating in a Skype session with Leah Darrow, a guest speaker from the USA. Leah was presenting to students in Darwin and we were unable... to travel. With our upgrades to bandwidth we were able to bring Leah to us. The World Wide Web is breaking down the remoteness of our College and giving our students equal access to anything that can be found in a city! See more
