25.01.2022 QCE Awards 2020 | Community The be-YOU-tiful Project St Norbert College, Queens Park... "The be-YOU-tiful Project started as a result of one simple question. It was asked by a Year 9 student to HPE staff member Katelyn Isard, and the question was this: "Miss, what do you do to stay fit?" Katelyn was familiar with a world-first global report published by the World Health Organisation in the Lancet Child Adolescent Health that provided damning statistics that Australian adolescents have alarmingly low levels of physical activity. In fact, Australia was one of the worst performers in the global report, ranking 140 out of 146 countries. 46 girls signed up for the pilot program and approximately 20 girls attended the different sessions which ran over 6 weeks. These sessions included boxing, pilates, strength and condition, circuits and cooking classes. The response from parents was immediate and overwhelmingly positive, to the point where some parents contacted Katelyn to say that they had been "dragged off the couch" to go and exercise with their daughter." https://awards.cewa.edu.au/nomina/the-be-you-tiful-project/
25.01.2022 Each year, students at Mandurah Catholic College undertake a Flourish Day - a day dedicated to developing awareness of mental and emotional health and building the skills that can contribute to wellbeing. Well done to all involved!

24.01.2022 STATE-WIDE COMMITMENT TO ZERO PERCENT FEE INCREASES IN 2021. Executive Director Dr Debra Sayce has confirmed there will be no increase in tuition fees in 2021 at CEWA-owned schools throughout the State. Western Australians have come together to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and we are very grateful to Government for their continued support of Catholic Education in Western Australia. Now we are working together to deal with the impacts resulting from the virus.... Our schools have reported that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many parents and caregivers have lost their jobs or had their hours cut, making it difficult for some families to make ends meet. Catholic Education understands the need for families to have certainty and stability. That is why Western Australian Catholic schools are providing families with the assurance that fees wont rise in 2021. While 14 non-diocesan Catholic schools have the autonomy to set their own fees, these schools share a commitment to minimising the impact of COVID-19 in their communities. Read our full zero percent fee increase statement here: https://www.cewa.edu.au//state-wide-commitment-to-zero-pe/

18.01.2022 Catholic Mission’s Rosaries and Prayer Guide Gift for Leavers. For this year’s 135 leavers at Nagle Catholic College, Rosemary Taylor, Diocesan Director for Catholic Mission in the Geraldton Diocese, organised a very special gift at the core of their Faith journey as Catholic school students. Each leaver received a World Mission Rosary blessed by Bishop Michael Morrissey who celebrated a beautiful mass to send them forth into the world. The rosaries were a symbol of their... commitment as leavers to make a difference in the world and a reminder of Pope Francis’ teaching that prayer is our very first missionary task the very first. The World Mission Rosaries were accompanied with Catholic Mission’s rosary prayer guide to help Nagle Catholic College leavers put this important teaching into action. Should you like more information about the World Mission Rosary programme for your school or college in 2021, contact Judith Nyamuli at [email protected] for Perth, Rosemary Taylor at [email protected] for Geraldton, and Deborah Robertson at [email protected] for Bunbury. 17.01.2022 Thanks, Sacred Heart Primary School - Thornlie for sharing this with us. Farewell, Mr Vince, thank you for your dedication and service! "Emotions were running high on Friday 30 October as we bid farewell to our much-loved school groundsman/maintenance man of 33 years, Vincent Lambertini. Vince was born in Malta in 1945, the 2nd eldest of 7 children. It was near the end of wartime, and life was pretty tough. Vince’s family was approached about sending him to Australia so he... could enjoy a better life. He was only about 8 years old. Vince was excited about embarking on a fantastic adventure sailing on a big ship, it has not occurred to him that he would be entirely on his own. Without his family to join him he set sail for Fremantle on the HMS SYDNEY in September 1953. His young life was spent at Clontarf, Castledare and his teenage years at Tardun. He loved being at Tardun and was involved in country football and cricket. After working in various country towns, he eventually came to the new campus of Sacred Heart Thornlie in 1987, where Sister Victor Wright was the Principal. There was plenty of work to do in establishing a new school and grounds. The first few months Vince spent preparing the grounds for the school oval, laying tufts of grass by hand, and also laying the paving between the classrooms. Over the next 32 years, he nurtured the school environment and grounds where the children loved him and were often heard calling out Mr Vince, Mr Vince!! So, on Friday the 30th, the children gathered to bid him farewell at the ripe old age of 75. Also present were former principals, namely Patsy Runge, Shane Baker and Sue Fox. Thanks Mr Vince for the love and dedication to Sacred Heart School."
17.01.2022 QCE Awards | Community The QCE Awards were held on 16th October. However, we continue to highlight all of the wonderful nominations received this year. Every Child Matters All Day, Every Day... Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, Rockingham Every child matters all day, every day is one of the mantras that directs our focus and commitment to the students in our care. For many and varied reasons our hope that every child experiences the joy and success during their learning journey in our school is quite a challenge for some students some of the time. When students struggle academically, socially, physically, spiritually and/or emotionally, without care and support, the situation can deteriorate and become damaging to students, their wellbeing and development, and also inevitably impacts their peers and teachers. We have found that we need the commitment of a team of staff to problem-solve how needs can be met and situations improved. This is achieved by many practices and processes within the school but a vital part of what the school offers is the newly established Specialised Learning Area and other Student Support Initiatives. https://awards.cewa.edu.au//every-child-matters-all-day-e/
16.01.2022 QCE Awards 2020 | Stewardship St Emilie's Bush Forever Journey St Emilie's Catholic Primary School, Canning Vale... "This long term project has greatly benefitted children, staff and families. The wider community has also acknowledged the excellent work that has been done to protect and preserve our native bushland environment. While children have learnt so much about our natural world, having a bushland classroom has also allowed teachers to connect and integrate the learning back into the classroom. From a Catholic perspective, children have been able to see the relationship between documents such as Laudato Si' (Care for our Common Home) and the importance of being a good steward in our natural world." https://awards.cewa.edu.au//st-emilies-bush-forever-journ/

13.01.2022 QCE Awards 2020 | Education Thinking and Learning Routine John Paul College - Kalgoorlie... "The John Paul College Thinking and Learning Model was designed around formative assessment, whereby students are visible learners tracking their success in lessons before the summative task. Thinking and Learning works on a macro and micro level; whereby the teacher commences the lesson with a hook, and they outline the learning intention and criteria required for success. Modelled learning practices, guided learning, and independent activities then follow. Each lesson concludes with students checking their success against the stated criteria. Effective learning requires our students to know how to access success (3B4T) independent of the teacher. The learning model has enabled consistency across the school with a shared language and model for learning." https://awards.cewa.edu.au//john-paul-college-thinking-an/

12.01.2022 QCE Awards 2020 | Education Year 10 Future Expo Irene McCormack Catholic College, Butler... The Deputy Principal and Assistant Deputy Principal created a new way of preparing Year 10s for the process of Course Selection. Involving the Career Counsellor was effective in the planning. The College felt it needed to begin preparing the students for Course Selection earlier, rather than waiting until Term 3. A definite difference was identified by witnessing that students were better prepared for their interviews with their Course Advisors, and more students were able to select courses as they met the pre-requisite.
