23.01.2022 St Bernard's has a very special connection to St Mary of the Cross. In 1890 - 130 years ago this year - the Sisters of St Joseph established their Victorian fou...ndation convent (pictured below) at St Bernard's Primary School. St Mary visited the parish several times, on one occasion making a retreat here. No doubt she attended Mass at our parish church! We walk in the footsteps of saints! See more

14.01.2022 Feasts of All Saints and All Souls Annually on 1 November and 2 November, we commemorate the feasts of All Saints and All Souls respectively. As Sr Virginia sta...ted: "Each November, we Christians remember the Saints and Souls who have gone ahead of us. It is part of our tradition, a distinguishing aspect of our communal identity. We celebrate what we cannot afford to forget and ‘play forward’ our hopes to become, as Christians, living expressions of the communion of love and connectedness in which God created us, and for which Jesus lived his life among us." This November, let us be inspired by the Saints (especially our own Saint Mary MacKillop) and remember all those who have entered eternal life You're invited to read Sr Virginia's reflection here... sosj.org.au/all-saints-souls-days-20 #Saints #Souls #MaryMacKillop #SaintMaryMacKillop #SistersOfSaintJoseph

12.01.2022 International Day of Charity Today (5 September) in addition to the International Day of Charity, we celebrate the feast day of St Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Te...resa). As the United Nations states: "In recognition of the role of charity in alleviating humanitarian crises and human suffering within and among nations, as well as of the efforts of charitable organizations and individuals, including the work of Mother Teresa, the General Assembly of the United Nations... designated 5th September, the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa, as the International Day of Charity." Like Mother Teresa, Saint Mary of the Cross was a charitable woman who remembered her "mission [to] seek first the poorest, most neglected parts of God’s vineyard. (Mary MacKillop 6.3.1900) The legacy of Mary MacKillop continues today by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart and charities such as Mary MacKillop Today. May the words and actions of Saint Mary MacKillop and Mother Teresa inspire us to be more charitable #InternationalDayOfCharity #charity #charitable #Saint #MotherTeresa #StTeresaOfCalcutta #Saint #MaryMacKillop #SaintMaryMacKillop #StMaryOfTheCrossMacKillop

10.01.2022 Father's Day Happy Father's Day to all the fathers, grandfathers, spiritual fathers (priests and religious men) and father figures in our lives! Mary MacKillo...p's father Alexander MacKillop (pictured left below) had greatly influenced Mary in her vocation, having educated Mary. Thanks to Alexander, Mary was firmly grounded in her faith. Today we also honour Father Julian Tenison Woods as Mary referred to as 'Father Founder'. May God bless all the fathers and male role models, and we remember those who have entered eternal life. 10.01.2022 Reflection on Mary MacKillop In this month's reflection by Sr Michele (Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart) she states: "Mary MacKillop could be remembe...red as a great journalist in her day. Mary MacKillop’s journals and her letters have left us a plethora of stories of herself, her family, and the early days of the colony when she was such a vital part of the community. She created images of her journeys and her compassion for the poor; we learn of her belief in the importance of education; we imbibe her sense of mission and deep spirituality." You're invited to continue reading Sr Michele's reflection here... sosj.org.au/mmk-reflection-nov-20 Let us be grateful for the gift of Mary #MaryMacKillop #SaintMaryMacKillop #StMaryOfTheCrossMacKillop

07.01.2022 Did you know that in 1890 St Bernard’s Primary School was the first Josephite School opened in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. East Melbourne, Footscray, Yarravi...lle, Williamstown and Newport were established by 1902. Mary understood that the Catholicity of a school depended on the dignity it paid each member of the community. This is why we value our student well being model, that allows us to cater for each child. See more
