25.01.2022 A LETTER FROM FR PETER: Dear Parishioners, These are unprecedented times for all of us and the church experiences the upheaval along with everyone else. Public masses are not being held and this week private attendance in the church has come to an end; the churches are locked during the day as well as overnight. People are trying different ways of sustaining the life of faith and the relationship with God and the parish community. Individual prayer is more important than e...ver. A phone call, email or text to someone you know is appreciated. We may be keeping our distance but that doesnt prevent us communicating our prayer and our love. Please keep that up. Many of the regular events in the churches are now suspended. These include the sacrament of reconciliation, prayer groups, stations of the cross, exposition and benediction and weekday masses. Some feel the absence of these things very deeply. One request put to me concerns having a time of exposition, visible from the car park at St Josephs. This will be done on Sunday from 9 am until 10 am. It will be reviewed after this week. Currently funerals can go ahead but numbers are restricted to ten people. Weddings are restricted to the bride and groom and two witnesses. Those planning baptisms are asked to defer the celebration for the time being. In case of emergency or deep need a priest will be willing to give the sacraments. Just call the parish number 5623 1642. Looking ahead you should know that these restrictions will continue into Easter. There will be no public Holy Week ceremonies or Easter Masses. We are feeling the dislocation of our faith expression that everyone is experiencing in many aspects of life. As well as this the parish office is to be closed. Some work can be done from home. Please be accepting of this; our parish workers have to be kept safe like all of you. The parish number is also the presbytery number so you can still make contact. Let us not forget the suffering at this time; and let us not forget God who can bring life out of any situation. God walks with us even in the most difficult episodes. Fr Peter 23.2.2020
