25.01.2022 In the latest update from the Victorian Government, all students aged 12 and over and staff who are attending school in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will be required to wear a face covering or mask when at school from Thursday, 23 July. Masks will not be mandatory for teachers while they are teaching students but should be worn at other times. Specialist schools and primary schools are exempt from this rule. The Department of Education of Training will be one of ...the first to receive the reusable masks and will provide them to students if they are unable to access one from home. However, it is expected most students will provide their own face covering and mask. Premier Andrews stated, We have over a million Victorian-made masks on the way and we will take steps to ensure every student has access to a face covering if theyre learning onsite. This includes students in Catholic secondary schools across Victoria who do not have their own masks. Contact your school for further information about how they are keeping your child safe during term 3. See more
25.01.2022 On World Teachers Day CSPV Deputy Chair Jodie McLeod thanks all dedicated teachers for their ongoing commitment and support for the education of our children. We particularly thank the efforts and professionalism of teachers throughout two long terms of remote learning and for supporting parents to engage and support their children at home.
24.01.2022 Our thoughts and prayers go out to year 10, 11 and 12 students today as they spend their last day at school in preparation for returning to remote learning. It has not been an easy year for you all but you are showing how resilient and courageous you are in adapting to the ever changing landscape that is the year 2020. Further information will be made available soon from the Minister for Education, James Merlino, in relation to VCE/VCAL. Information CSPV has received curren...tly is that all Year 11 and 12 provision for both Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) will move to remote and flexible learning from Wednesday. Students will have a free day tomorrow to enable schools to prepare for remote learning for all students. Prep to Year 10 students will continue with remote and flexible learning in metropolitan Melbourne and these students in regional areas will commence remote and flexible learning. Any child enrolled in a specialist school in rural and regional Victoria will be able to continue to attend. These requirements apply to all schools across the government, Catholic and independent sectors and across all metropolitan Melbourne and rural and regional Victoria. We encourage you to read all correspondence from your school to keep up to date and provide the support your child needs to continue to learn remotely for the remainder of the term.
24.01.2022 How does CSPV advocate for parent engagement in learning? Our strategic focus is in the development of parent engagement knowledge and capacity of parents and teachers. We've provided opportunities this year for parents in the form of webinars and participation on various committees to contribute to the development of charters, policies and strategic plans for areas of interest to parents in Catholic education. Our Executive Officer Rachel Saliba explains how CSPV supports the growth and development of parent engagement in learning as a key strategy for school improvement and student learning and wellbeing.

23.01.2022 In our series on the future of learning, our Executive Officer Rachel Saliba discusses a remote learning option. Now that we've experienced this in 2020 over two school terms, there is much discussion about how we can continue some of the experiences of students and teachers during remote learning. CSPV recently surveyed parents and asked what they would like to see continue. A full report will soon be available on our website at www.cspv.catholic.edu.au.

21.01.2022 Congratulations to all students and their parents who made it through remote learning. Now that children are returning to school it's important to recognise and acknowledge the resilience and adaptability of everyone in education who had to quickly adapt to changing circumstances. To the teachers, parents and students, and of course the leaders in our Catholic schools. We'd like to say a huge thank you to all Principals and leadership teams in schools who have had the enormous responsibility to ensure children have continued to learn effectively and that the wellbeing of teachers and students was and continues to be a focus in our Catholic schools. Good luck to all this term and for those students yet to return, not long to go now!
20.01.2022 A little reflection to inspire you as you move through remote learning alongside your child and their teachers: The Vital Partnership I dreamed I stood in a studio... And watched two sculptors there The clay they used was the young childs mind And they fashioned it with care. One was a teacher, the tools she used Were books and music and art One was a parent with a guiding hand And a gentle loving heart. Day after day the teacher toiled With touch that was deft and sure While the parent laboured by her side And polished and smoothed it oer. And when their tasks were done They were proud of what they had wrought For the things they had moulded into a child Could neither be sold nor bought. And each agreed they would have failed If they had worked alone For behind the parent stood the school And behind the teacher, the home. (PARENT EDUCATION GROUP 2007)
20.01.2022 The Victorian Government has just announced more support for VCE students and further mental health resources for young people struggling with the pandemic. Every Victorian student will be individually assessed, and any adverse impacts of coronavirus will be reflected in ATAR rankings as part of a wide-ranging process to ensure fair and accurate results in this unprecedented year of school taking a huge mental load off students and their families as we head towards exams. 19.01.2022 Wondering what has happened to Plenary Council 2020? The postponement of the first assembly of the Plenary Council by 12 months might have seemed like a slowing down of the Council journey, but lots of work continues to proceed. Groups around the country are unpacking the six discernment papers that were published at Pentecost. Discernment audio and papers can be found at https://plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/continuing-the-jour/. 18.01.2022 During these interesting and changing times, as a family you may have questions around what is an education for, why do we need school and where do our children learn? Learning is all around us at all times no matter where we are, but the purpose of a formal education in a school environment is to introduce young people to many different concepts that make up the world and communities. It's an opportunity for young people to form opinions, to question and debate, to develop values and skills that can serve to help them to build cultures and communities of their future. Watch this video by the CEO of ACARA, David Carvahlo as he discusses the purpose of education in forming the whole child alongside their families and communities. 18.01.2022 During this second wave of Victoria being in lockdown, it is easy to quickly become very isolated. CatholicCare provides FREE counselling and other support services to help families and people you know get through this time. 16.01.2022 New update for all secondary school students in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire who are attending onsite for Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) or onsite supervision. You will need to wear a face covering, including when travelling to and from school from tomorrow. Students who attend primary school for onsite supervision will not be required to wear a face covering. Students who are aged 12 by Year 6 will not be required t...o wear face coverings. The Chief Health Officer has advised that it is not practical to require some primary school students to wear face coverings while others are not required to. Students or staff who have a medical condition including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition are not required to wear a face covering. This includes students who attend specialist schools. Parents/carers will be required to wear face coverings whenever they leave the house, including for school drop-off and pick-up. We encourage you to work with your school staff and seek assistance if needed.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to all year 12 students today who have reached the final stages of their formal schooling. The English exam is perhaps the most important test for all students, bringing together so many years of learning. As a student at the time you may not realise how significant all that learning has been, but it all comes together and will make sense as you move beyond exams and the challenges of this year to begin a new chapter in your lives. CSPV congratulate all parents of year 12 students for continuing to support your children throughout their education and particularly through this year as they made their way through perhaps one of the greatest challenges they've faced. Your support is valued and acknowledged along with their dedicated teachers. We wish all students the very best over the next few weeks and beyond.
14.01.2022 Our thoughts are with all parents and teachers today as we learned yesterday that remote learning is likely to continue for longer than anticipated early next term, particularly for metropolitan Melbourne schools. There is some respite for parents of younger children in the early years of primary at the start of next term and the remaining decisions will be based on further updates related to the number of cases once restrictions begin to ease. Here is an update with informa...Continue reading

11.01.2022 A huge thank you and congratulations to all parents and carers who have managed to get through this term, learning alongside their children, collaborating with teachers, wading through emails and schedules, keeping children on track and occupied when they couldn't go to the park, all while managing work commitments, other siblings, the general daily challenges of managing a family, finances and emotions and trying to stay sane during this time. You've made it through! You d...eserve to celebrate and relax now that school holidays are here. Remember to continue to social distance and keep wearing masks so we can see our kids return to school safely for the final term this year. 08.01.2022 To all of our regional Catholic school families, you will have heard today that Stage 3 restrictions will return on 11.59pm on Wednesday. In a media statement received by CSPV this afternoon, Premier Dan Andrews stated; "The question I know most parents will be asking: regional schools will return to remote and flexible learning across all year levels and across the state. The only exception will be for specialist schools. Onsite supervision will again be made available for... students who need it, including children whose parents are permitted workers and vulnerable kids who cant learn from home." Many of you will have received and completed a remote learning survey from CSPV over the past week or will receive a link to complete the survey this coming week. CSPV would like to thank you for your contribution to providing feedback and as you head into remote learning once more. The feedback will provide much needed information to improve the experience for students, families and teachers as term 3 continues. Please continue to work closely with your school to support your child's learning and to seek assistance if you need it from your child's teachers. We wish you well as you embark on your very important role as a partner in your child's learning.
08.01.2022 How are your children celebrating NAIDOC week at their school? Perhaps you could ask them when they come home today what they are doing, what activities they are participating in and how they are acknowledging the culture, history, past and contemporary achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island...er peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself. 05.01.2022 Wondering if Catholic school students benefit from the announcements from the Victorian government in yesterday's budget? In a media release today, Executive Director of Catholic Education Commission of Victoria, Jim Miles welcomed the announcements. ‘The Catholic sector welcomes the government’s $1.6 billion commitment over four years to improve support for students with special needs, and welcomes the allocation of this funding that will flow through to Catholic schools a...s partners in educating these students. ‘We also welcome the confirmation of fast-tracked capital grants for school building projects. The CECV will deliver 42 school building projects valued at over $185 million in 2021, including fast-tracking around $35 million in projects to help support Victoria’s economic recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and recent bushfires. ‘Catholic school communities will need to invest an estimated $2.4 billion into capital works to meet student demand over the next decade. Meeting this demand will take pressure off government services and government schools, and we will be looking to the state government to play its part in helping our sector meet this community need. ‘It should be noted that additional capital funding for Catholic schools saves taxpayers tens of millions of dollars each year because our school and parish communities also contribute significantly to these projects’, Mr Miles said. Mr Miles said Catholic schools would also benefit from the additional funding for schools to employ tutors to support students to get up to speed after long periods of remote learning in 2020, which was confirmed today. We had many parents, principals, teachers and passionate family school partnerships consultants attend the webinar. Some of the key take aways were, "Loved Debbie's differentiation between education and schooling", "Enabling parents use their own skills to grow their relationship with their children", "A home and family is a complex context, hence a rich place for learning", "I love the idea of teachers and parents walking alongside, parent knowledge different but equally essential for learning." If you missed it the replay will be available soon.
