25.01.2022 May we all be bringers of good tidings in how we communicate with and love others.
25.01.2022 It's the feast of Christ the King today. Christ as king of the whole universe. "He has a name written on his cloak and on his thigh, 'King of kings and Lord of lords.'" (Revelation 19:16) By king, it means that He reigns over all people and all things.... Do you allow Him to be the King of your life?
25.01.2022 The term 'euthanasia' has become synonymous with killing someone who no longer wants to live: death at one's own request. In the case of euthanasia, we end the life that God has given us in custody: we put an end to something that does not belong to us. And so instead of helping someone love and respect the life given by God, that person is assisted in ending that life.
24.01.2022 Join the Disciples of Jesus at their annual Summer School of Evangelisation (across Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth in January!). The school of evangelisation comes under the direction of Fr Ken Barker, a member of the Disciples of Jesus Covenant Community and the Missionaries of God’s Love. You'll journey with others for 3 days, forming a unique faith community bonded by a common vision to seek God during Summer Nights. Head to http://summerschool.org.au/ for more info.
23.01.2022 It was so good to gather with over 80 youth leaders tonight IN THE FLESH at the Youth Leader Masterclass after spending the best part of the year doing ministry online. Nothing beats praying together in person. We had the pleasure of hearing from Pastor Karolina Gunsser share her heart for youth ministry and what the role of a leader is and then later the Archbishop Mark Coleridge share about the conversion of St Paul before entering into a time of worship and adoration.
23.01.2022 Apparently the first year of marriage (according to research) is the hardest year of marriage. If you're a young newly wed, Saint Gummarus is your guy for intercession over this fun but hard time in the life of your marriage.
22.01.2022 NET Australia is opening the doors to the first ten days of NET Initial Training to a limited number of participants! 21.01.2022 Saying yes to Jesus is much more about actions and deeds than words and promises. It's easy to make a promise. Keeping a promise is an entirely different matter, as the parable of the two sons makes abundantly clear where one say 'yes' but doesn't follow through and the other says 'no' but changes his mind and does what his father asked of him. Our tongue often lies. But body language never lies. It reveals our real priorities. What do your actions say about your commitment to Jesus?
21.01.2022 For something to be a sin, it needs to be grave matter (an offense against reason, truth, and right conscience; failure in genuine love for God and neighbour caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods - CCC 1849) and done with full knowledge and full consent. If getting drunk is weighing on your conscience, contact your local priest (find your nearest parish here: archbne.org/qbw) and arrange a time for confession.
20.01.2022 The Queensland class of 2020 were the first student batch to attend Prep, to go through year 7 in high school, and to experience the new ATAR system for year 12. It hasn't been an easy road for you but you've had plenty of opportunity to grow in resiliency because of it. And today is your year 12 finishing day! Well done, year 12's. We pray that as you leave your school faith community, that you will lean into the parish communities that are there to love and support you. If ...you're moving away from your parish in order to study at University next year, be sure to connect in with your uni chaplaincy (for ACU try ACU Campus Ministry; for UQ try Chaplaincy UQ Catholics and Newman Catholic Society UQ; for QUT try QUT Catholics; and check out Reclaim. too). 17.01.2022 Merry Christmas! With this Christmas season may Christ be ever-present to you and your loved ones, and my He grow to become the greatest desire of your heart.
16.01.2022 Saint Drogo was a twelfth century Flemish saint, born of nobility. When he turned 18, he gave away all his property and went on pilgrimage to Rome. While on his way, he was stricken with an unsighly bodily affliction, which is why he's the patron saint of unattractive people. If you struggle with judging others or yourself, ask for St Drogo's intercession. He'll get it.
16.01.2022 God desires only one thing of you: your happiness. He created you to know, love, and serve Him. It is this that will make you as happy as you can be now and perfectly happy forever in heaven. To know Him means to spend time with Him in prayer. To love and serve Him means to do His will, which includes loving and caring for the people He's placed around you in your life.... What is one thing you can change in your life for greater happiness?
16.01.2022 Just like in the parable of the workers in the vineyard who were given equal pay when some had worked all day long and others only for the last hour of the day, it does not matter at what point in our life we commit ourselves to God - whether in childhood or on our deathbed - we will be welcomed by Him with open arms and loved as much as the next person. When you look at your loved ones who don't know Jesus, do not despair - their journey is not over yet. Who knows at what point in their life that they might turn to God. Trust that God has a plan for them, just like He has a plan for you, and pray for them with as much fervour as Saint Monica did for her son Saint Augustine.

15.01.2022 In today's Gospel reading, Jesus tells the parable of the talents, a story that encourages us to not squander what God has given us but rather to use and grow the skills and passions He's gifted us with. What has He given you? Are you harnessing it? Is it bringing glory to Him?
13.01.2022 Because of her lifetime of disappointments, difficulty and setbacks, St Rita is now considered the patron saint of the impossible. If you're ever having a hard day, she's your gal.
13.01.2022 If you find yourself feeling a little dead inside, turn to Saint Gertrude of Nivelles and ask for her intercession - she's got you covered! But if the feeling persists, be sure to reach out to the help God has placed at hand: speak to your doctor or services like Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636) or Lifeline (13 11 14).

12.01.2022 It's the feast of the Holy Family today, honouring Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the model for Christian families. How can you invite the Holy Family into your family today to guide you in loving your parents and siblings?
11.01.2022 If you're between the age of 18 and 30 and are looking for a community of people to help you grow in faith, join Reclaim, a monthly young adult hang out at Emmanuel City Mission. It features a keynote, time to share in small groups, prayer, and some quality fellowship. The next Reclaim is on Tuesday night the 6th of October and will be unpacking the topic of brotherhood and sisterhood. You can find out more about it here: https://www.facebook.com/reclaimbne.
10.01.2022 That only men may receive Holy Orders is in no way demeaning to women. In God's eyes, man and woman have the same dignity, but they have different duties and charisms. In priests, the Christian community is to see a representation of Jesus Christ - who was male in gender - married to the Church, the 'Bride of Christ'. It is not that women are not capable - they are "more important than men, because the Church is a woman" (Pope Francis, In-Flight Press Conference, 27 Septembe...r 2015). God just has another role in mind: as 'mothers of all the living' and a feminine way of teaching, preaching, charity, spirituality, and guidance. Jesus deliberately chose only men as Apostles, though he had many female followers and friends, and the Church is committed to involving both women and men in the governance of the Church, within the situation defined by Jesus.
09.01.2022 In order to experience a valid confession (and therefore benefit from the seal of confession), you must be both baptised Catholic and sorry for your sins, resolving to sin in these ways no more. If a non-Catholic were to approach a priest asking for confession, what the priest could offer was spiritual counseling and moral guidance but not the Sacrament itself. However they could offer absolution to non-Catholic Christians in certain rare cases, such as the danger of death.
08.01.2022 The sign of the cross is an ancient practice and prayer. It is a confession of faith, a renewal of baptism, a mark of discipleship, an acceptance of suffering, a defense against the devil, and a victory over self-indulgence. When you make the sign of the cross, you are professing a mini version of the creed - a belief in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It says 'everything I do, I do in the name of Christ'. Next time you make the sign of the cross, pause to really think about what you are stating by your actions.
04.01.2022 Jesus said that "if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father" (Matthew 18: 19). How often do you pray aloud with other people? Many families say grace before meals and some couples pray together at night before going to sleep. If you're single, perhaps you could schedule in weekly prayer with your housemates or when a friend is in need, offer to pray with them on the spot? It may feel uncomfortable at first, but it will strengthen the bonds of your relationship and lift your hearts to Heaven.
04.01.2022 Registration for Youth Leader Masterclass closes today. Don't miss out on hearing Karolina Gunsser, Citipointe Church Redcliffe pastor and ex-youth ministry extraordinaire, share about the role of youth leader. Gather your youth leader team and register here by midnight tonight: https://ylmasterclass_sep2020.eventbrite.com.au.
04.01.2022 Edan Pereira, the youth coordinator at SMYG (St Matthews Parish Church, Cornubia) is looking at new ways of offering leadership training and encounter experiences. He's kicking things off with hosting a weekend of prayer training and reflection with his team in October (and will be inviting other local youth group leaders to come along... Rochedale Youth and Youth United we're looking at you!).
03.01.2022 If you're feeling anxious, pray 'come Holy Spirit'. If you're about to go into an exam, pray 'come Holy Spirit'. If you're in the middle of an argument, pray 'come Holy Spirit'. The Holy Spirit will always respond and come to your aid.
02.01.2022 Jesus challenges us to not just forgive someone seven times but seventy-seven times. He doesn't literally mean for us to keep a tally so that at the seventy-eighth time we can hold a grudge. He was exaggerating to get across the point that we are not to keep a tally but continue to forgive those who wrong us. Easier said than done, we know. Is there anyone in your life that you need to forgive?
