21.01.2022 QCE Awards | Community The QCE Awards were held on 16th October. However, we continue to highlight all of the wonderful nominations received this year. Every Child Matters All Day, Every Day... Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, Rockingham Every child matters all day, every day is one of the mantras that directs our focus and commitment to the students in our care. For many and varied reasons our hope that every child experiences the joy and success during their learning journey in our school is quite a challenge for some students some of the time. When students struggle academically, socially, physically, spiritually and/or emotionally, without care and support, the situation can deteriorate and become damaging to students, their wellbeing and development, and also inevitably impacts their peers and teachers. We have found that we need the commitment of a team of staff to problem-solve how needs can be met and situations improved. This is achieved by many practices and processes within the school but a vital part of what the school offers is the newly established Specialised Learning Area and other Student Support Initiatives. https://awards.cewa.edu.au//every-child-matters-all-day-e/

12.01.2022 . As part of their Christian Service learning and Phys Ed programme, Mercy College's Catholic Mission club had great fun and a visit from Pope Francis whilst socking it to poverty recently. They organised a Socktober event that saw groups from all across the college dribbling the ‘sockballs’ to the net in the fastest time. Sockballs are what kids living in poverty around the world play with. Mercy College students made their s...ockballs from old socks and other stuff rescued from landfill. All engaged in a holistic experience of mission, developed an awareness of the struggles of children living in poverty and an open heart for action. Please contact Judith Nyamuli at [email protected] to register your interest in Socktober for 2021. Mercy College, Koondoola, Perth WA

04.01.2022 Thanks, Sacred Heart Primary School - Thornlie for sharing this with us. Farewell, Mr Vince, thank you for your dedication and service! "Emotions were running high on Friday 30 October as we bid farewell to our much-loved school groundsman/maintenance man of 33 years, Vincent Lambertini. Vince was born in Malta in 1945, the 2nd eldest of 7 children. It was near the end of wartime, and life was pretty tough. Vince’s family was approached about sending him to Australia so he... could enjoy a better life. He was only about 8 years old. Vince was excited about embarking on a fantastic adventure sailing on a big ship, it has not occurred to him that he would be entirely on his own. Without his family to join him he set sail for Fremantle on the HMS SYDNEY in September 1953. His young life was spent at Clontarf, Castledare and his teenage years at Tardun. He loved being at Tardun and was involved in country football and cricket. After working in various country towns, he eventually came to the new campus of Sacred Heart Thornlie in 1987, where Sister Victor Wright was the Principal. There was plenty of work to do in establishing a new school and grounds. The first few months Vince spent preparing the grounds for the school oval, laying tufts of grass by hand, and also laying the paving between the classrooms. Over the next 32 years, he nurtured the school environment and grounds where the children loved him and were often heard calling out Mr Vince, Mr Vince!! So, on Friday the 30th, the children gathered to bid him farewell at the ripe old age of 75. Also present were former principals, namely Patsy Runge, Shane Baker and Sue Fox. Thanks Mr Vince for the love and dedication to Sacred Heart School."
