25.01.2022 When he was 11, Dara lost his right hand and most of his sight following an accident with a landmine. Living in a rural part of Cambodia, he would have struggled to access education and basic needs because of disability. See how Dara lives his day-to-day life in this inspiring video, with a hope and fulfilment and a view from all angles. You can visit his home, join him at school and even play along at game time. Its a total 360 experience! In 2020, you can support the Arrupe Centre through your school by registering online at https://socktober.org.au. Programs like this need your support now more than ever. Socktober uses the world game of soccer to encourage students to learn about mission and social justice, core parts of the Catholic curriculum. The six-week Socktober Challenge makes learning about mission at home easy and fun.
24.01.2022 As 2020 draws to a close, the reality of the impact of COVID-19 is still before our eyes, but missionaries around the world share their commitment to continuing their work, and spreading hope. The continued support of friends and donors from all backgrounds in this difficult year is what continues to sustain all our works around Australia and throughout the world. In recognition of this you can find the messages of hope in many languages; from Arabic to Zulu, with Mandarin in between. #WeAreStillHere

23.01.2022 The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the whole world in so many ways. While Australia is still at risk, and we must remain vigilant, there is a sense of hope we can continue to flatten the curve. Other countries are not so lucky. What Catholic Mission and the international network of Pontifical Mission Societies can do, is to help some of the most vulnerable people in the world, says Catholic Mission National Director, Fr Brian Lucas. As one Africa Cardinal has explained, the economic restrictions might mean his people will starve before they are infected with the virus.

22.01.2022 We are here for the common good; to be a more inclusive society and to bring also the joy of life everywhere ... we look with a positive vision and, I would say, with hope and joy and happiness." Bishop Enrique Figaredo Alvargonzalez has witnessed firsthand the struggle of people with disability in Cambodia who have faced years of stigma and lack of opportunities such as education and gainful employment. This is the driving force behind his passion for working to ensure that people with disability are empowered and are able to life a fulfilling life. Please go to https://catholicmission.org.au/cambodia to learn more about Bishop Enrique and the missionary work of the Church in Cambodia.
21.01.2022 The Holy Father, Pope Francis, announced in May, the venerable Pauline Jaricot, the founder and inspiration of Catholic Mission and the Pontifical Mission Societies, has taken another step on her journey to sainthood with the recognition of a miracle attributed to her intercession.Whilst we await the official date of the beatification, we can still rely on her intercession. Her charism of prayer and charity, which guides all our mission activities is told in more detail in th...e latest edition of Mission Today. Its a truly inspiring story, we hope you enjoy. 20.01.2022 On this the first Sunday in Advent, David McGovern, Brisbane Diocesan Director, reflects on the season. "Preparations for Christmas are in full swing and the excitement of the season is an opportunity to reflect on our mission to let "colour" and joy take over our hearts, minds and homes. We find the courage to play our role in brightening the bleakness of those in need. The Christmas story is, at its heart, a tale of new life being born into darkness, of hope for the world replacing fear and oppression."
19.01.2022 Education is one of the many challenges in the rural areas of northern Ghana. But thanks to the life-changing work you support through Catholic Mission, the children and young adults living here will benefit greatly from the enhanced skills of teachers training at St Vincents College, who will live and work in these rural villages. Despite the impact of COVID-19, with lockdowns and restrictions, it hasnt stopped the school from achieving its ambition: to provide aspiring teachers with the best training in northern Ghana.
19.01.2022 Chen's parents are grateful for the ongoing support of Bishop Enrique "Kike" Figaredo Alvargonzalez and the Arrupe Centre, without which, they would find it challenging to provide Chen with the specific care he needs after his landmine accident. Please give generously today to ensure that Bishop Kike and the Arrupe Centre can continue providing life-giving care for people with disability like Chen at https://catholicmission.org.au/cambodia.
19.01.2022 Chen was only 16 years old when he lost both of his legs in a landmine accident near his home. Fearing that he would not be able to continue his education or help his family, Chen was grateful that Bishop Enrique and the Arrupe Centre reached out to him in his time of need and empowered him to not only finish high school, but to continue into university study and gainful employment. Your gift can help the Arrupe Centre continue this life-giving mission work for other children and young adults like Chen in Cambodia. Donate today at https://catholicmission.org.au/cambodia.
19.01.2022 Today is the feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, the Cathedral of the Diocese of Rome. Its a chance to acknowledge Catholic Mission's role as a Pontifical agency committed to Mission and Evangelisation around the world. The Pontifical Mission Societies are relied upon by Pope Francis to work in communities, with church leaders, and with children, in more than 160 countries. Connor reflects on the role he plays with Diocese around the world to help them recognise their vision of mission.
19.01.2022 When Chen woke up in hospital after stepping on a landmine he immediately knew that his life would never be the same. Thankfully the Arrupe Centre, run by the Church in Cambodia, reached out to Chen and his family during this time of need. They provided Chen with practical support and opportunities that would help him to build his future. The important work of the Arrupe Centre can only continue with the support of people like you. 14.01.2022 The Arrupe Centre program is critical in providing learning and growth opportunities for young people with disability and their families, and Bishop Kike says we can learn from the giraffe and how it lives side by side with different animals in the wild. When the giraffe sees something wrong, it will move gently, and the other animals will follow. As humans we can learn from this: close gentle leadership of others who are different. Hear more from Bishop Kike in this special message of hope.

The work of the priests in his community made such an impact on David that it is the reason why he chose to follow this vocation. 06.01.2022 Today, landmine accidents are still prevalent in Cambodia, a cruel reminder of the country's trouble past, even for those who, like Chen, were not yet born during the tumultuous years of the Khmer Rouge regime and civil conflicts that followed. 05.01.2022 Pope Francis has highlighted his passion for the Pontifical Mission Societies, known in Australia as Catholic Mission, recognising mission is at the heart and identity of the Church, and the worldwide network reflects the rich variety of people with a thousand faces. These faces are featured in an inspirational video that connects more than 30 missionaries based in over 25 different countries speaking a variety of languages. Produced by Catholic Mission, the global awarenes...s campaign, launched as part of World Mission Month, is being shared with Pontifical Mission Societies around the world. 04.01.2022 Programs such as the Arrupe Centre, run by Bishop Kike in Battambang are critical in providing learning and growth opportunities for young people with disability and their families in Cambodia. As special symbol of a disabled Christ worn by Bishop Kike invites us all to join the power of salvation. When we represent Jesus as disabled, what we want to say is that Jesus is in solidarity with people with disabilities.... Acting upon the needs of those with disability, especially children, caused by landmine accidents, polio and other illnesses, Bishop Kike created the Arrupe Centre to provide a safe, supportive place for them to rehabilitate. Christ is in solidarity with their suffering.
04.01.2022 Today we celebrate the World Day of the Poor. In his message to the faithful to mark the day, Pope Francis has called attention to the shared responsibility to stretch forth your hand to the poor(Sri. 7:32). He reminds us that a smile that we can share with the poor is a source of love and a way of spreading love. An outstretched hand, then, can always be enriched by the smile of those who quietly and unassumingly offer to help, inspired only by the joy of living as one of Christ’s disciples. It is this very response by generous supporters and donors that enables us to continue our work in the world and in turn be rewarded with the smiles of those we help.

01.01.2022 I know I have something to contribute. I just want to do something simple, to be of service. Benjamin is confident that his time at the seminary will allow him to serve his community and provide support during these challenging times. However, the rising cost of living means that many seminarians cannot afford to continue their studies without assistance. Will you support men like Benjamin to continue their formation in turn supporting communities in need well into the future? Please give today at https://catholicmission.org.au/cameroon, or by texting 'GIVE' to 0488 854 436.
