25.01.2022 Thank you to Fr John Echewodo from St. Marys Parish Coomera for his prayer to those who are preparing to participate in Socktober 2020. Christ has no body now on earth but yours Yours are the eyes through which to look out Christs compassion to the world. ... Have a safe and peaceful holiday and may God bless you for your support of Catholic Mission through this years Socktober campaign.

22.01.2022 And the servants master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancelled the debt." (from todays Gospel, Thur, Aug 13, 2020) When Catholic Mission looks to engage with schools, and also with parishes and donors, we sometimes #encounter obstacles along the way: schools are too busy, parishes are experiencing declining attendance and revenue, donors get too much mail. These are all reasons, appeals to the head, as to why they may not be able to support our work, at a p...articular point in time. Rather than being critical, or trying to rationalise these challenges, the team at Catholic Mission - Brisbane looks to appeal to those who share a heart for Mission, and who can respond at this time. In doing so, we hope to embrace the heart of the King in todays gospel - meeting people where they are at and welcoming the grace and compassion with which Principals and teachers like Justin McCarthy & Jessica Purvey, and the students, staff and parents at St Patricks Nanango can, and do, support our work. #encounter

22.01.2022 We have had a ball engaging with schools across Brisbane during Socktober. However it has looked, whatever elements have gone into the ‘balls’, and the efforts to ‘sock it to poverty’, we give thanks. The people of Cambodia also are grateful.

21.01.2022 Our Catholic Mission - Brisbane team here, David McGovern, Emily Connors, Fiona Ng and Sue Williams would like to bid our friends a safe and lovely weekend ahead. In the pic attached is Fiona, Emily and Sue posing with David after a beautiful lunch of fish and chips. Earlier in the day we paid a visit to the Carmelite Monastery at Ormiston, where we delivered cakes to the 16 nuns in residence (of course we practiced social distancing). As the weekend approaches, may you #en...counter our Lord through everyone you meet and may you love them as you love the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, his love is everlasting Psalm 106(107):2-9. #encounter

20.01.2022 Hi, everyone We hope you are all well. Our Catholic Mission - Brisbane team is doing a shout out to our Townsville Diocesan Directors - Helen & Tom Tarttelin who are presently doing a North Western road trip visiting donors, schools, and priests.... Please keep them in your prayers that they have a safe and meaningful trip. God Bless

20.01.2022 She said, Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters. (From todays Gospel) We are grateful to the people of the Parramatta Park Parish - Catholic Diocese of Cairns and those in schools nearby, for their support of the missionary work of the Church around the world. The extract from todays Gospel reminds us of the power of giving in faith: even small amounts can transform lives.... Please consider making a donation today to help students at Shwe Hinta Education, Myanmar (see pic below).

20.01.2022 Go forth without fear, for he who created you has made you holy, has always protected you, and loves you as a mother. St Clare, founder of the order of Poor Clare nuns, part of the Franciscan family and way of life. On the day when we have celebrated the feast day of St Clare, we give thanks for the support offered to Catholic Mission by St Clares Catholic School Burdell in the Catholic Diocese of Townsville. #encounter

20.01.2022 She became our first saint. Before that however, St Mary of the Cross, or Sister Mary MacKillop, was a missionary, using subsidies from our parent body, the Pontifical Mission Societies, to meet needs and change lives. On the eve of her feast day, and to ease you into the weekend, here is a lovely song in her honour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8HN2qb4a_Y #checkitout

19.01.2022 Dear Friends in Mission We hope you are all traveling well in the beautiful season of Spring. Sharing this beautiful quote to all of you:... God, thank you for walking with us through the seasons of our lives. For the winter, when we are held safe in your arms through the darkness and cold. The hope of spring, as we are filled with new promise and life. For summer time, full of warmth and colour And for autumn days as leaves fall to foster new growth. You are always with us. Amen. In pic attached is Deanne and Kay from the St Pauls Bookcentre. They kindly donated the word "FAITH" to our team member Sue. Thank you so much. Come visit them in-store or check out the range of books here: https://secure.stpauls.com.au/book-centre

19.01.2022 Having a ball...we have been delighted to spend time with Fr John and Tammy at the St. Marys Parish Coomera. Watch this space for how these two have helped support our Socktober campaign.

17.01.2022 Amen. The team in Brisbane echo the gratitude and sentiment of this post from our national Facebook page.

15.01.2022 One of the privileges of working for Catholic Mission is all the times we #encounter priests, as they serve the Church in a range of ways, including as servant leaders. Sometimes, our interactions occur at a local level, when they are in our neighbourhood (pic of Fr Leo with Monsignor Thomas and David McGovern), or when we visit them in their parish context (pic of Fr Peter Gablonski). Other times, the interactions occur when we are overseas, in places like Myanmar (pic of F...r Lucas), or when they visit us from overseas. Other forms of #encounter occur when we bring missionaries to Australia and they are able to meet church leaders, to say thank you for all the financial and prayerful support they receive from Australia (Sr Stan with Archbishop Mark Coleridge.) We wish all priests a happy and holy feast day (St John Vianney is the patron saint for priests. His feast day is August 4.)

15.01.2022 At Catholic Mission - Brisbane, we are all about encounter. This month, we are mindful of all the ways we engage and connect with other parts of the Church, and the wider community. For instance, today has begun with our Schools and Youth Engagement Officer, Sue Williams, making her way out to Ormiston, to the beautiful retreat centre, Santa Teresa, for a day of networking and professional development with staff from across Brisbane Catholic Education. After attending 8am ...Mass this morning, Brisbane Director David McGovern ran into some visitors from the Maitland Newcastle Diocese. Fr George, Ann and Pat were on a supply run to Brisbane, from their parish in Taree. We give thanks for all those who work with Catholic Mission in schools and parishes across the country. Please keep these communities of faith in your thoughts and prayers.

15.01.2022 As a new season springs forth, we give thanks to all the people who help us reach out and give life. Among those we acknowledge on this first day of Spring are our donors, our prayer partners, our teachers and students, and priests and religious, such as Fr Peter Dillon from Surfers Paradise Catholic Parish. Together, these wonderful people help Catholic Mission bring #hope to people in need in more than 160 countries. In pic attached is Fr Peter Dillon from Surfers Paradise... Catholic Parish. #hope

14.01.2022 We want to begin our week with a pic of our team mates in the Townsville Diocese, Helen and Tom Tarttelin marking the end of their week last Friday. It is such a lovely glimpse into community, as occurs in so many country towns across Australia: simple delights, with generations coming together to enjoy them. In the pic, Helen and Tom are enjoying Icy Pole afternoon at St Josephs Cloncurry with APRE Shadley Davids and his assistants. Have a great week, filled with simple delights and the knowledge that you are held in the palm of a loving God.

14.01.2022 Many of our loyal followers, who work in parishes, May have had an #encounter with the wonderful Anna Jimenez. Be it over the phone, via email or, in some instances, a visit, Anna has been coordinating our parish appeals across Queensland, especially in Brisbane and Cairns, and doing so with graciousness, gentleness and faithfulness. We give thanks for Annas contribution, which today has reached a milestone of half a decade. Thanks for your efforts on behalf of all the miss...ionaries around the world Anna, and on behalf of all those they serve. May God bless you and your family for all the ways you serve Him. We are glad you are part of our team. Please leave a comment or note of thanks for Anna below.

14.01.2022 Earlier today, Sue and David, from the Catholic Mission - Brisbane office, decided to help a local parish and two adjoining schools mark the feast day of their patron saint, St Bernard. Check it out as they prepare to deliver cakes to St Bernards Catholic School UMG, Clairvaux MacKillop College and St Bernards Parish - Upper Mt Gravatt Wishart Catholic Parish, all at Upper Mt Gravatt. #catholic #mission #presence #wearestillhere #checkitout

14.01.2022 Thank you to Fr John Echewodo from St Marys parish at Upper Coomera as he offered this short prayer of commissioning, as we prepare for the participation in Socktober 2020, "Christ has no body now on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which to look out Christs compassion to the world. Thank you for picking up the ball and running with it, as part of Catholic Missions Socktober campaign in 2020. May God Bless you for your generosity and may His Spirit guide you in your efforts with your friends.

14.01.2022 Helen and Tom, the Townsville Directors for Catholic Mission have been travelling to remote parts of the diocese. Among those they have met up with is Hughenden parish priest, Fr Mobin. Please pray for all the priests of the Townsville Diocese and those they serve with faithfulness and devotion.

13.01.2022 Go forth in peace, for you have followed the good road. St Clare, founder of the order of Poor Clare nuns, part of the Franciscan family and way of life. On the day when the universal Catholic Church marks the feast day of St Clare, we give thanks for the support offered to Catholic Mission by St Clares School, Tully in the Catholic Diocese of Cairns.

13.01.2022 If two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you, by my Father in Heaven... (from todays Gospel, Wed, Aug 12, 2020) In engaging with schools across QLD, such as Stephani Barnes - APRE and Carmel OBrien Principal (pic attached) and her students and staff from Saint Marys Catholic College, Kingaroy, the team from Catholic Mission embrace the sense of todays Gospel from Matthew: we ask for the support of each school community, in Jesus name. ...When they respond in the same vein, anything becomes possible. We are grateful for all the ways schools support our work and all the ways prayers are answered for those in need. #encounter

12.01.2022 We were delighted that the parish priest at St. Marys Parish Coomera, Fr John Echewodo agreed to a visit from our Brisbane Director David McGovern earlier this morning (Monday, August 31). During their time together, Fr John confirmed that they will host an appeal for Catholic Mission next month. Please pray for all the parishes that have said yes to the invitation to conduct our annual appeal, all those that will welcome Ambassadors and those that have agreed to embrace our school student model for the first time. The appeal weekend will be conducted across the Brisbane Archdiocese on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18.

09.01.2022 We must always choose the most perfect. Two good works present themselves to be done, one in favour of a person we love, the other in favour of a person who has done us some harm. Well, we must give preference to the latter. Saint John Vianney. On the day when we celebrate the feast day of the patron saint for priests, St John Vianney, we give thanks for the servant leadership of all priests in the Catholic Diocese of Townsville, including Fr Damian McGrath - Parish Priest ...of St Patricks Parish - Ingham. We also acknowledge the generous support given to our work, by many donors, including those in parishes in Townsville, towards the operations of local seminaries around the world, such as the Good Shepherd Seminary in Nagaland, India. Please keep Bishop James Thoppill (in pic attached) and all priests in this diocese, in your thoughts and prayers, that they may #encounter the Risen Lord daily.

08.01.2022 The Brisbane team is spending today and the next two days hearing from young people who took part in our inaugural Mission Ambassador Program for Students (MAPS). At the time of posting, we have had input from young ladies from Catholic primary schools in Regents Park (St Bernardine’s), Bulimba (Sts Peter & Paul) and Camp Hill (St Thomas). Soon, we will dialogue with a quartet from Loreto College at COORPAROO. We give thanks for the amazing job performed by each and every s...tudent speaker and also acknowledge the warm welcome extended to them all by local parishes across Brisbane and beyond. On a team note, we also recognise and thank our colleague and School and Youth Engagement Officer, Sue Williams, for her contribution to making MAPS happen in the first place.

08.01.2022 Whenever any of the team from Catholic Missions Brisbane office have the privilege of meeting with supporters, including corporate partners, donors, volunteers or people from parish and school communities, we feel a bit like Peter does in todays Gospel: it is wonderful for us to be here. In those moments of #encounter, something is transformed; we too see what could be possible, because of the generosity of those with whom we are sharing. Like the disciples, we cant wait to build something, start something, contribute something, for those in need. God tells us that Jesus is His Beloved. Listen to Him. May today you hear Gods voice, be attuned to the call of Jesus and join with us to transfigure the lives of people around the world. #encounter

08.01.2022 Greater love has no man than to lay his life down for his friends, says the Lord." (from the Communion Antiphon for todays Mass, Fri, Aug 14, 2020) It is a fact that, in todays society, there are many demands on schools. It is something that the team at Catholic Mission - Brisbane is very mindful of, in our overtures to the education sector and those in leadership. We never take our engagement with schools, or the support they offer us, for granted. We give thanks for all those in schools, such as Jessica Marshall - APRE from St Josephs School, Murgon who say yes to working with Catholic Mission. In your generosity and compassion, you are adopting the sacrificial approach highlighted in todays communion antiphon. #encounter

07.01.2022 The team from Catholic Mission - Brisbane extends a shout out to those parishes dedicated to St Joseph and those schools run in the Josephite tradition AND to the college named after St Lawrence, in South Brisbane. We also give thanks for the selfless dedication and service of all Josephite Sisters and Christian Brothers. These two religious orders celebrated feast days recently: the feast day of St Mary MacKillop on Saturday (August and the feast of St Lawrence today (Monday, August 10).

06.01.2022 Among those that our Townsville team mates, Helen and Tom Tarttelin have been blessed to catch up with during this travels through the remote parts of the diocese, including Mt Isa, are Lorna fisher and Yvonne McDonald. They are, according to Helen, the backbone of Good Shepherd Parish. Please continue to keep Helen and Tom in your thoughts and prayers and also those they meet along the way.

05.01.2022 Good Day Friends in Mission, this year our Catholic Mission appeal 2020 focuses on the work of the church in Cambodia in reaching out to those who have been affected by disability and giving them hope and support to live a fulfilling life. Please go to https://www.catholicmission.org.au/cambodia to learn more today.

05.01.2022 As an agency helping those who dont have as much, this message from one of our friends in the Emmanuel Community reminds us that we can all make a difference. As Natasha puts it: we all have enough. We just need to trust God with what He has given us.

05.01.2022 As we kicked off the month of September with #hope, we are reminded of how precious relationships and connections are to us human beings. To quote Mother Teresas Thirsting for God, "What we are doing is to bring Jesus to the poor and the poor to Jesus. That is all we are doing." In pic attached is Fr Marty Larsen from Holy Family Catholic Church Runaway Bay and David McGovern who caught up recently. We are thankful for all the work the priests and the religious are doing for... our parishioners and how they continue to support us to Reach Out. Give Life. God Bless. #hope

04.01.2022 Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven. (From the gospel for today, which also marks the Feast of St Clare) The team at Catholic Mission in Brisbane has always valued its relationship with local schools. It is in these places of learning and fun that young children grow in their faith and understanding of what it means to follow Christ, to believe in and worship God and to be part of the Catholic Church. We can... all learn from their sense of faith and we give thanks for those who teach and help plant the seeds of that faith, such as Karen Douglas from All Saints Boonah. As we pray in the Communion Antiphon in todays Mass, thank you to school leaders such as you for having chosen the better part. #encounter

04.01.2022 The Home Mission Fund is one of the ways Catholic Mission supports the domestic church, through funds directed to missionary activity in eight dioceses across Australia. Last year, we made $868,000 available to the dioceses of Armidale, Broome, Townsville, Wilcannia Forbes, Darwin, Geraldton, Port Pirie and Wollongong. With October dedicated to Mary, and also when the Church celebrates World Mission Month, why not join with us in giving thanks for all the missionary activity conducted in Australia, and in surrounding nations, and pray the blue decade of the World Mission Rosary?

04.01.2022 With age-old love I have loved you; so I have kept my mercy toward you. (First reading) We are grateful to the people of the Ministerial Region of the Good Shepherd, Townsville and those in schools nearby, for their support of the missionary work of the Church around the world.... In pic attached are students in remote Cambodia focus on learning.

04.01.2022 I tell you that you have less to suffer in following the Cross than in serving the world and its pleasures. Saint John Vianney. On the day when we celebrate the feast day of the patron saint for priests, St John Vianney, we give thanks for the servant leadership of all priests in the Catholic Diocese of Cairns, including Fr Neil Muir - Parish Priest for Northern Beaches Parish in Cairns. Please keep him, and all priests in this diocese, in your thoughts and prayers, that th...ey may #encounter the Risen Lord daily. In pic attached are Seminarians in Good Shepherd Seminary, India who will be future church leaders.

04.01.2022 Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone. There in their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became as white as the light (from the gospel for today, to mark the Feast of the Transfiguration.) When missionaries travel into communities to bring the Good News, through practical assistance or through the sacraments and liturgy, they can radically change the lives of... the people they encounter. As happens to Jesus on the mountain, in front of Peter, James and John, the lives of people who encounter the Good News are transformed, or transfigured. Catholic Mission recognises that just as God looks with favour on His son, Jesus, and tells the disciples to listen to Him, so we too must look with loving eyes on those in need and be guided by Him in our response towards supporting the missionaries, as they help build schools, health clinics and even churches. We give thanks for the people of the Holy Spirit Parish Cranbrook - Catholic Diocese of Townsville, in both the church and school communities, who have helped transform, or transfigure, the people of Myanmar.

03.01.2022 Thank you Fr John Echewodo from St. Marys Parish Coomera for his special prayer to Socktober 2020 participants. Christ has no feet but yours Yours are the eyes through which to look out Christs compassion to the world. ... Thank you for stepping out in faith and confidence, on behalf of the people of Cambodia, who will benefit from your efforts as part of Catholic Missions Socktober campaign. May God bless you for your generosity and your commitment. God Bless.

03.01.2022 We mentioned towards the end of last week that our colleagues in the Townsville office of Catholic Mission, Helen & Thomas Tartellin, are hitting the road to visit remote parts of the diocese. One of their stops was to visit supporters, Cecilia and her son Greg l on their property, Delbeesie Station. They were so happy to have us visit and we felt privileged to be in their presence, Helen said. ... Please pray for Helen and Tom as they continue their travels and for all those they are encountering.

03.01.2022 Very, very proud that this message was created by our colleagues in our National Office, with the help of all those who serve others. #wearestillhere #loveourteam

01.01.2022 All across parishes in the Archdiocese of Brisbane, volunteer Mission Ambassadors are preparing to share the story of the missionary work of the church in Cambodia. It is all part of the Catholic Mission Cath Mission appeal campaign, For the Joy of the Lord Is Your Strength and its focus on Chen, a land mine victim whose life has been transformed. We give thanks for those parishes conducting the appeal, those people speaking on Chen’s behalf and those who will respond generously to the call for prayers and donations. Please keep our fundraising efforts in your thoughts and prayers on this weekend when the Universal Church marks World Mission Sunday.
