25.01.2022 A blessing as we begin a new day and week... May this be a morning of innocent beginning, when the gift within you slips clear of the sticky web of the personal... with its hurt and hauntings, and fixed fortress corners, A morning when you become a pure vessel for what wants to ascend from silence, May your imagination know the grace of perfect danger, To reach beyond imitation, and the wheel of repetition, Deep into the call of all the unfinished and unsolved Until the veil of the unknown yields and something original begins to stir toward your senses and grow stronger in your heart... ~John O'Donohue Image ~ Sunrise at Port Willunga SA by Sea.of.Lights
25.01.2022 It seems the whole world is watching and waiting with bated breath to see who will win the US Presidential election. For those of us particularly interested, i...t was a rough day yesterday no matter which camp we are in! I woke this morning with a hope and prayer that calm would prevail, not just in my own heart, but the heart of the world and especially the hearts of the American people. And then I turned to Mary Oliver, that great American poet who will be keenly watching and hoping with us from heaven...and who, no doubt is praying for calm, patience and peace for her beloved country and peoples. This is what I found on opening her book, A Thousand Mornings - All night my heart makes its way however it can over the rough ground of uncertainties, but only until night meets and then is overwhelmed by morning, the light deepening, the wind easing and just waiting, as I too wait (and when have I ever been disappointed?) for redbird to sing. ~Mary Oliver PS. "Redbird" is indicative of only beauty and serenity in this context! May we hold both gifts gently as we wait ... in hope!
25.01.2022 A really good read!

21.01.2022 An evening benediction for us all...
21.01.2022 Solemnity of Christ the King "Whatever you do to the least of my sisters and brothers, you do unto me." Matthew 25 In a recent reflection shared on today's Gos...pel, Sr Hildegard invited us to view this text and the feast of Christ the King in a different way. Instead of contemplating Christ in glory, she said the feast leads us back to the Mystery of the Incarnation, the great feast of God coming to us as LOVE in human flesh - "This parable of the last judgment presents every person (through the mystery of the Incarnation), as Christ clothed in human flesh. When a Christian does anything out of love for another person, that other is Christ whatever is done is done for Christ. Thus this text is really about the Mystery of the Incarnation. Until we accept in faith this Mystery, we cannot understand Matthew 25. Christ in the sick, the poor, the child who is a slave worker, and the child who is well-cared for; the parents, grandparents who pour out their lives for family; those with whom we live, work, eat, exercise, celebrate, grieve and mourn. Because of the Incarnation, everyone in my life is to be reverenced and respected from the least to the greatest." 19.01.2022 30th Sunday of the Year "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first co...mmandment. The second resembles it: you must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also." Matthew 22:37-40 In today's Lectio Notes, Sr Hildegard reflects on the call to remove the heart of stone from our bodies and replace it with a heart of flesh...a heart which is able to respond to the greatest commandments we hear in today's Gospel. It begins, she says, with our thought patterns: "we are responsible for what we think". She goes on to say, that "a heart of stone is a heart in denial". Are we honest with ourselves, our thoughts and our own prejudices? 18.01.2022 US Election Day Our American friend and artist, Br Mickey McGrath, posted a timely piece on this eve/day of the United States election. Let us join with him in ...praying this prayer for all Americans today and in the days ahead. "This is the best prayer I know for us to hold in our hearts on Tuesday and the days following. Serenity is the key for all of us who strive to live fully in the present moment." Br Mickey
16.01.2022 This is quite a thought provoking read.
15.01.2022 "At birth we board the train and meet our parents, and we believe they will always travel by our side. As time goes by, other people will board the train, and t...hey will be significant...family members, friends, children, and even the love of our life. "However, at some station, our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on the journey alone. Others will step down over time and leave a permanent vacuum. Some, however, will go so unnoticed that we don't even realize they've vacated their seats. "The train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, hellos and goodbyes. Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers, requiring that we give the best of ourselves . "We do not know at which station we, ourselves, will step down, so we must love, forgive and offer the best of who we are. "It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty, we should leave behind good memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life." ~~Jean d'Ormesson~~

11.01.2022 Spread the word....
10.01.2022 ...and (s)he came to understand that the authentic triune sacrifice is inherent within a humbled and contrite heart - willfully reunited with a loving and merci...ful mind - manifest within an understanding and forgiving soul. ...and unexpectedly, (s)he came to re-encounter and to cherish the Christ - the once forsaken and self-crucified Anointing Spirit of God which had long ago dwelled within; inhaling and receiving the divine essence and the undeserved gift of the resurrection and the restoration of her/his calloused and withered heart, corrupted and fruitless mind, and fragmented and lifeless soul. 09.01.2022 Wild weather (in some form or another!) continues to lash us, but this...yes, this...fabulous!
05.01.2022 All Souls Day Oh holy day..."Surrounded as we are, by so great a cloud of witnesses..."(Heb 12:1). Ancestors, family members, friends, loved ones, forgotten one...s, the many, many lost in this pandemic...we speak your names today with reverence and gratitude. Be with us in this "thin place", pray for us and lead us to God. Today's image ~ The Eternal Choir by Australian artist, Di Bresciani is a beautiful depiction of "the great crowd of witnesses" encompassing us.
03.01.2022 WE ARE OPEN! Around 60 people gathered in Wason Street Milton, for the official opening of the Rising from the Ashes Storytelling and Healing Space. In this spa...ce everyone who has been touched by the fires or any other traumatic event in their lives has the opportunity to tell their stories in their own way, in their own time. Telling our stories can transform our minds and hearts, by letting go of the pain of the past. Storytelling empowers us to move forward with our lives toward a renewed future. Free Arts based workshops will compliment verbal and written storytelling, as well as activities, including short, nature exploring bushwalks and gatherings for barbeques etc. The Space is open 10 am to 2 pm Tuesday to Saturday and at other times on a specific needs basis. It is envisaged that the Space will be in operation for over 12 months. Uncle Noel Butler opened proceedings with a welcome, offering safe passage and well being for all during our journey. He emphasised that we are all on the road to healing, coming together to support one another to strengthen our community. As our first nation peoples’ culture is rich with Storytelling, Uncle Noel and Aunty Trish, performed a song expressing how they share their culture and knowledge and care for one another through storytelling. Among the official guests and speakers on the day were, Fiona Phillips- Federal Labour Member for Gilmour, Steven Christie- Central Eastern Region Hospitaller, of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Fr Michael Dyer- Administrator Milton Catholic Parish and Foundation Member of Rising from the Ashes and Amanda Findley, Mayor of Shoalhaven City Council. An important part of the day was the ‘Blessing of the Space’ performed by Deacon Justin Stanwix with sprinkling of water, Mr Dean Dampney- with the ringing of bells and Uncle Noel Butler with the smoking of leaves each bringing an omnipresent spiritual enrichment to the space. In total there were 15 people in the building for the blessing, including official guests, representatives of community health and welfare support services, as well as those affected by the fires. Amanda Findley performed the official opening, with the popping of a champaign cork and a toast to the success of the project. In her speech Amanda expressed how moving the blessing ceremony was- as expressed in her words, As we, stood in the room, I thought of all those experiences, that have been had throughout the entire 2020 coming into the room, I could hear Dean with the bell and that clarity of the bell allowed me to have a point of focus and to think, that point of focus would be the point of focus for those who step through the door and they too will be able to receive clarity. I smelt the ancient smoke through the ceremony and in smelling that smoke, Uncle Noel, I could also think about the relief, that people often feel through the smoking ceremony and how the smoke takes things away into the atmosphere and spreads it out to the ancients and really dissipates that feeling and I could hear you talking in language and that connection in language, to all of those places we go, was a strong feeling as well. As Justin brought in his prayer to bring it all together and I know that there are so many different faiths in the community and those words of faith, when we strip them all back, the thing that every single one of us is left with, is compassionate love. I know that we are all dying to break through 2020, but there are good things happening and every day good things will happen and this is an absolute symbol of the good things that will happen in 2020. I also could picture and imagine, when the stories come in and the dances and the pictures are able to be expressed, what was coming out of this place was the light of love, the light of compassion and the traffic of people who come and share their stories and the stories in writing and creativity will be absolutely incredible. The rising from the Ashes project team thank the donors, sponsors, strategic partners and volunteers, who have assisted us in taking this Wason Street, Storytelling and Healing Space from dream to reality. Everyone is welcome to drop in for a cuppa or a chat or book in for a workshop. www.shoalhavenrisingfromtheashes.com Facebook: shoalhavenrisingfromtheashes 0492 870 158 Project Manager- Vivienne Benson-Hodge 0407 264 665
01.01.2022 "Your voice bringing light and news that is good"... what better way to begin a Monday morning! Thanks to the Corrymeela Community in Northern Ireland for this... prayer of life and hope. God of the chaos we fear, God of the day we create: the eternal nature of your love is something greater than permanence. We don’t so much rest upon it because it is fixed and unchanging, as we continually discover it: surprising and true. Morning by morning new mercies we see. Give us faith not in what we hope can still last from the first breath of creation, but in what arrives in this newborn moment: your voice bringing light with news that is good. Amen.
