10.01.2022 Let me tell you a bit more about me. In the next month I will be posting some thoughts and 'platforms' and generally information about myself, my experience and also the process of being in this election. I won't be doing flyers or signs, this will be my forum for sharing information and for discussion so please feel free to email me for more information or clarification. And please share this page if you feel it is beneficial. My work history is in community. I have a Bachel...Continue reading
07.01.2022 Hi. I'm a local resident and I'm looking to make a change in this Shire. I want to introduce myself and give you some info about me but it is very hard not to sound like an advertisement for a cheesy campaign when you're trying to put together some words in a forum like this. It's time for change...I'm passionate about... let's make a difference...hmmmmm. Actually all of those tried and trite sayings are true. But they still sound so...well I think you know what I mean. I am ...local and have lived here for 17 years. I am raising my family here. My husband grew up here and his family have been in the area for generations. I love it here. I love the place, the environment, the amazing culture and arts scene. I love the people and the landscape. I have met some of the most inspiring individuals in my work (and play) with Nillumbikians. In a nutshell I want to protect the Green Wedge and work towards serious and impactful actions to combat the effects of Climate Change. I am also committed to working with the traditional custodians of this land and I value their knowledge and culture. There is so much work to do and so much we can do. I'm not an expert on Climate Change or even the best way to protect and preserve the Green Wedge but ultimately I don't need to be. That expertise is already out there in our community and beyond. My expertise lies in being able to bring people together in a collaboration to achieve our goals. I can be the driver, the person who listens and consults and debates. I am by no means the natural politician. I am just a resident who wants change. I might not have the perfect words but I will work to bring people together the solve the problems that we identify as a community. In this campaign time I will try to articulate some of the changes that I want to see. I would also like to hear from you and find out what issues are at the top of your list. It might sound a bit naff from time to time because I don't have campaign managers or media peeps. Just me and my laptop and some thoughts and ideas. Stay tuned
05.01.2022 I have lived in North Warrandyte for seventeen years. My husband grew up here and his family have been in Hurstbridge for generations. My two daughters have grown up here, attending local schools and we have been involved in sporting, arts and local community and action groups. I love this area and feel privileged to be able to live near the Yarra River, in such a natural environment and just an hour from one of the best cities in the world. I have worked as a staff member ...at Nillumbik Shire Council for about seven years in various areas of community service. When the current Council came in, the workplace culture changed drastically. I have seen committed and knowledgeable staff pushed out, costing the ratepayer $3.2 million in redundancy fees and resulting in community values, expertise and local understanding of this unique area eroded from the organisation. Nillumbik has a passionate, educated and knowledgeable community of citizens. We have a unique perspective of the places where we live. These qualities have been consistently undermined by the Council who have treated the community as something to ‘get around’ rather than a valued asset to be consulted and collaborated with. I believe in preserving our Green Wedge, not just for local citizens but as the lungs of Melbourne which they were intended to be. If elected, I will develop a Council that is committed to combating the effects of Climate Change. I will consult with the Indigenous custodians of this land and value their expertise and culture. Most importantly, I want community consultation and respectful debate to be cornerstones for our Council.
