25.01.2022 Some photos from the Treasures of Toowoomba Exhibition. Thank you to family, friends, old and new clients who came and supported me, it was wonderful and we all had a great time :)

25.01.2022 Hi all, I hope you are well on this lovely showery Sunday morning. This is a painting of my Grandfather Cuddihys dairy at his farm in the Woodlawn Valley, Bell QLD. I painted it plein air (on site) watching the summer showers as they rolled across the Bunya Mountains. I really enjoyed this process as its a challenge to paint the essence of what I see and not get confused with too much detail. Learning to paint plein air has been instrumental in teaching me to become a bett...er studio painter. Its a different style with different problems to overcome than controlled studio painting but I have just got to be determined to overcome whatever the day throws at me when I go out painting - rain, sun, snakes, magpies etc. I think that everything I experience painting onsite becomes part of the finished painting which I believe adds to a plein air paintings charm :) #landscape #art #artist #australianartist #bunyamountains #dairyfarm #mountains #rain #nature #pretty #blue #sunlight

21.01.2022 I was going to post this painting for sale in the upcoming weeks as have been enjoying it on my wall and wasnt quite ready to part with it yet but the delightful lady who purchased Magic Morning Light, saw it when she came to pick her painting up and twisted my arm as she just loved this one so and wanted to keep the two paintings hanging as a pair. This is another plein air painting painted on a different day with gentle soft pinky pastel light. Mount Kynoch is so pretty wi...th such stunning views, Ill be back there again painting soon. 20.01.2022 The colours vibrate with intensity in this painting. I was having a teal blue day teal blue is one of my all time favourite colours Do you ever have a colour day? I sure do! Some days I walk into the studio and its a pink day or red day. A mystery I dont know how it all works but I know when I follow my colour feelings its a good day in the studio. I was immensely drawn to paint this little blue wren after our holiday in Tasmania. The colours were outstandingly ...clear and vibrant in the Tasmanian light. Multiple pourings create depth and mystery throughout this painting capturing the beauty of this magical colour and beautiful superb male blue wren. Teal Hues 18x36 (46x92cm) ready to hang in his forever home. If youre interested please DM me for a price. 18.01.2022 As always struggling to keep up with my art and full time work so I though I might post some photographs that Ive taken when out and about looking for new subject material. I love looking though these photos and pondering how to make paintings from them and merge them with my memories of the day. This first one is one of my favourite places on our farm looking into the magical blue of the Bunya Mountains National Park across our improved pastures. #bunyamountains #cathymcclellandfineart #photo

18.01.2022 Here we go again! Fourth time lucky Hopefully well make it to Lord Howe Island this time

18.01.2022 Happy first day of Spring!!! The flowers are blooming and the birds are singing, I hope you are enjoying today wherever you are

18.01.2022 SOLD Just a pretty painting to brighten your afternoon

17.01.2022 My last painting for 2016 filled with colour and happiness

17.01.2022 Morning hike where I walked past the Catalina flying boat crash site, sadly five died here because the plane clipped the top of a ridge as it was coming into land. Stunning sunrise on Neds Beach where my footprints were the only marks in the sand then went for a morning paint. Such a magical Island. Fantastic day again

16.01.2022 So enjoying this foggy misty weather on my morning walk and so were the resident roos. It must be so wonderful for them to eat green grass again. Isnt it amazing how fast plants respond to rain after being dry for so long, what a joy to see flowers in our garden again. #bringontherain #toowoombafog #yuccaflowers #garden #kangaroos #cathymcclellandfineart

16.01.2022 A peaceful Monday morning, just sitting here with my cuppa feeling grateful for all the wonderful rain weve had, looking out over a happy wet garden and listening to all the beautiful birdsongs filling the morning air... carolling magpies, singing wrens, pipping grass parrots, chattering rainbow lorikeets and cooeeing cooee birds. So peaceful. It seems the weather continues to come in extremes, weve nearly had last years rainfall total already and two cyclones are active at... the moment, Damien WA and the newly formed UESI which might track towards Qld bringing us more rain. I popped into one of my favourite shops through the week, Magnolia, its a treasure trove of loveliness. I just couldnt resist this gorgeous book, Vintage Roses, which has now been read from cover to cover with favourites chosen A beautiful day to be in the garden #365daysofgratefulness #gardenlover #birdwatcher Magnolia Toowoomba

16.01.2022 Sending warm golden hugs of sunshiny joy to everyone I love this time of year when the warm luminous light cascades through the landscape, highlighting trees, making them glow against the soft hazy distant mountains. There is nothing sweeter than creating loose impressionistic strokes alive with colour! Luminous Light, 20x30 (50x76cm), acrylic #colourlove

15.01.2022 I painted and sold many paintings for years before someone suggested I should take photos of them as records and this is one of those lost paintings. I walked into a house last week and I saw it happily hanging on a wall bringing joy to its owner. I am thrilled she still loves it so #cathymcclellandfineart #boldbrush #studio #art #natureart #wildlifeart #birdart #birds #birdwatching #bluewrens #country #magicalmoment #bunyamountains #toowoomba #dalby

14.01.2022 Very excited about the progress of this painting. A little patience and a light touch go a long way. Please feel free to comment and share #bird #tapdancer #painting #acrylic #canvas #realism

14.01.2022 Update: Im delighted to Tapdancer has found his forever home Tap Dancer with all my favourite things - gum leaves, virburnum, gweria & native grasses. All of theses plants are growing in my Bell garden, survived this dreadful drought weve been having. Tough, hardy plants that can look beautiful providing an abundant habitat for the little native birds that live in it. ... This daddy blue wren is such a trickster, he loves to tap on the windows, fly close to my face when Im in the garden and pop into the kitchen for a visit to say hi Im so aware It has been so important to put water out for our native birds and animals when its dry so they are ready to thrive when the rains come. Looking after our native friends is a privilege At the moment theres a lot of love in our garden since the rain. Very happy blue wrens Tap Dancer 18 x 36 (46x92cm) ready to hang in his forever home All shares, likes and comments greatly appreciated #toowoombaartist #bluewren #tapdancer #garden #native #plants #droughtsurvivers #toughandhardy #soontobebabybluewrens #natureisamazing

14.01.2022 I made it! Fourth time lucky!!! Apparently its one of the worst places for pilots to fly to. Short runway. Gusting winds from multiple directions and unpredictable weather Just blown away by the beauty here. The colours. The flora. The scenery. All spectacular! Its like stepping back in time with no mobile signal and limited very expensive data. Being an animal and bird artist Im blown away by how little bird life there is, no seagulls, ducks, pelicans, no snakes, only a... couple of spiders, a couple of ants and there are no mammals on the island. Only a couple of very fat cattle and apparently a lot of rats as they have been doing a rat eradication program which included dropping baits over the entire island by helicopter Im having a ball painting plein air, hiking and photographing everything. Its all just so stunning! Loving every second. See more

12.01.2022 I dont go to art courses very often so when I do I choose my tutors very carefully, often choosing tutors to push me out of my comfort zone. This one did as Im an acrylic painter I find oil painting very messy and it quickly turns to mud on me but after attending a weekend course with John Wilson I was thrilled at how this painting turned out. Hes a great teacher of traditional landscapes

09.01.2022 Happy Australia Day Everyone Australia is home to many treasures... our fauna, flora and beautiful landscapes. Im so happy to call Australia home #australiaday #cathymclelland #loveaustralia

09.01.2022 The world always seems brighter when youve just made something that wasnt there before - Neil Gaiman. Ebullient, acrylic on canvas, 20 x 30 (51 x 76cm) Why did I call this painting Ebullient? Ebullient is a wonderful old word that means cheerful, happy and full of energy ... In my happy place having way too much fun with colour Its so exciting not knowing what the end result will be. The best thing about taking a break is Im experimenting, having fun trying new things and Ive discovered I love the freedom of abstract expressionism If interested in this fun happy piece DM me for a price. 07.01.2022 Back home... I now have some internet to post some pictures of my time at Lord Howe Island. It was like going back in time. A generator provides power for the island and there is no mobile phone signal, there is a satellite for internet which is very expensive. Theres a couple of public phones, one which gives free calls on the island, so the locals say, but I didnt find it. The vehicle speed limit is 25 kilometres per hour and push bikes seem to be the main mode of transpo...rt. The school has a barefoot policy so all the kids were running around barefoot. What a brilliant carefree place to raise children. There is no crime and everyone knows everyone else. Its so safe! I met some really lovely locals who loved sharing their stories with me about how they grew up on the island then had to go away for school, then they came back either to start a business or retire. I met another lovely island lady who originally came from Warra. Small world! See more

06.01.2022 Its been a few years since Ive entered into any competitions as Ive been so busy with work, life... but my New Years Resolution for 2020 was to have ago in a couple of competitions this year. And Im beyond excited my painting Ghost Rider was accepted into the International Guild of Realism - IGOR juried Spring Salon Online Exhibition out of 700+ entries with artists represented from over 20 countries, just so thrilled to be selected among artists Ive admired for years ... Ghost Rider is marked SOLD as a savvy Adelaide SA collector has already purchased but fine art reproductions (prints for us country folk) are available from https://www.buyartnow.com.au/cathy-mcclelland The story of Ghost Rider - this is a painting of my oldest son Travis ghosting in and out of the thick choking dust on our farm as he was mustering the cows. I was watching him disappear then reappear through the dust and was pondering the question - with the continuing droughts and financial difficulties faced by small family farms, will they and our iconic Aussie cowboys become ghost riders of the past? Disappear into history?
