25.01.2022 I’m really thrilled to be a finalist in this year’s Head On Photo Festival. A nice piece of news amongst a lot of depressing news right now! Winner is announced May 1, and the festival will all be online this year. Thanks so much esteemed judges!
24.01.2022 This is a fantastic project celebrating and representing women over 50, any shape and size. Get in touch with Ponch Hawkes at www.fleshafterfifty.com I tired talking my Mum into participating.. maybe a few of her friends here can talk her into it!
24.01.2022 I’m on a bit of a lucky streak it seems, super happy to be a finalist in the @perthcentreforphotography Iris Award for this image ‘in between moments’. The show opens Friday 18th October in Perth.. anyone over there who can check it out?! This image was taken last year during our trip in Albania. I’m fascinated photographically by the little moments that happen in between, not the crescendo moment, but the awkward ones either side of that. This is one of those for me. The strange in between moments of travelling.. #irisaward #perthcentreforphotography #australianphotographer #canonaustralia #auswip #documentaryphotography
23.01.2022 This beautifully framed print of Foreign Places is off to Gippsland Art Gallery for the Art Aid for Gippsland exhibition and auction - a bushfire appeal for people and communities in East Gippsland, Victoria. It joins hundreds of donated works from local and Australian artists. So awesome to see art making a difference in this way. If you’re interested in bidding on this or any other work in the exhibition, please check out the Gippsland Art Gallery website in the coming week...s. Works will be available for online auction if you are not able to make it to the gallery in Sale. https://www.gippslandartgallery.com//art-aid-for-gippsland/ I have felt devastated for all the communities, habitats and fauna that have suffered from our terrible bushfires this summer. I have struggled with a sense of doom, sadness and anger about our changing climate. #artaidgippsland #bushfiresaustralia #climatechange #artforbushfirerelief #gippslandemergencyrelieffund

21.01.2022 I'm so grateful for all the wonderful support of my business and work this past month - thank you everyone who has booked a session with me. The lockdown prevented me from working almost 4 months, and it has resulted in me falling in love all over again with my job. Thank you to local family, Zoe and Marius, for the magic of your kiddos in this session a couple of weeks ago.
21.01.2022 I have my print ‘Greek Figs’ available to buy at Cream Town during July. If you don’t want to buy my print, that’s ok, check out the other 199 artists selling their work there . I’m donating a portion of my sales to First Nations organisations. This image is part of a slow series inspired by my mother-in-law’s heart felt stories about food production and life growing up in a small village on the island of Evia, Greece.

20.01.2022 I shoot quite a few elopement weddings up here, which usually I can't share, understandably. The lovely couple from this memorable wedding last summer allowed me to share a few. It was a sticky, humid day but the bride and groom were relaxed and easy going about it all. The three of us went on an adventure with the heat, the mozzies and the stinging nettle. The light was gorgeous and they had such a comfortable, caring and easy nature with one another - everything came together for a beautiful outing in the bush for their photos and the three of us felt high on adventure afterwards. And in need of a shower! More photos at the blog link. https://www.cathyronaldsphotography.com/elopement-wedding-/
20.01.2022 I'm grateful for receiving Highly Commended in the The Mono Awards, People category, for this portrait of Abby. This was taken during a family session at Inverloch Beach last year. Thanks Nicola Crocco for having me photograph your family. :) Thanks Capture Mag, Australian Photography mag and to the panel of judges.
20.01.2022 Last night I won the Maggie Diaz Photography Prize for Women for my image ‘foreign places’. I’m blown away and still comprehending it. Thank you to my husband Diamond Papazoglou who has supported me so completely through this whole journey, he says yes to all of it, even the film and film cameras (ok a bit of a reluctance there...).. and it was really special to share with Ella, my shy and reluctant muse and beautiful girl. Thank you to Kylie Greer at Brightspace who is the ...brainchild behind the prize, thank you a million times for this opportunity and for what you have created for our community! Thank you Gwen @maggie_diaz_collection and Judith Crispin for your poignant reflections on this work last night and for your support. Thank you @amandafordycephoto for your support in judging also. Thank you Guilty and The Dream Cave for sponsoring this prize - THANK YOU for the funds that will help me share my work on femininity with you all. Thank you to my insightful mentors Morganna Magee @paulmcdonald for setting the bar higher for myself, pushing me way out of my comfort zone and for all of your guidance, patience and belief in my work - without your support this image would never have been taken or shared. And to @naomiherzog for injecting me with just the right doses of confidence at just the right moments Finally, thank you to photog friends @jillvelinos @allieharper @helenjolly @annetteruzicka and @susangordonbrown for your constant support in my work and my terrible self doubt (!) and to Emma Jennings for trekking all the way in last night to support me with your boys and for these pictures from last night. And thank you Matte Image for printing this multiple times at short notice for me!! And thanks @iconframes Brad for superb framing and being super lovely to work with. AND. Thank you to all the beautiful women who shared their strong voices with the world and entered the prize - to those who share these white walls together as finalists and highly commended artists. We’re all doing great work, all of us. Go see everyone’s work, until Aug 17 at Brightspace St Kilda, Melbourne. See more

19.01.2022 Excited to be part of MAP Group’s paste-up exhibition of 90+ portraits of Castlemaine artists and musicians on the streets of Castlemaine. This is part of the Castlemaine State Festival, where there will be open studios, exhibitions, shows and performances aplenty. This exhibition celebrates and spotlights Castlemaine’s enormous artist community. I had the utter pleasure of working with and photographing four incredible women there: Hayley West, Jane Rusden, Helen Bodycomb and Eliza Hull. This is an invitation to the launch for our show - but if you can't get there for that, then just head up to Castlemaine between 14/3 to the 31/3 and walk the streets of Castlemaine.
19.01.2022 George and his adoring little herd of kids. I met George while walking by his place in #budesti #romania We couldn’t speak a common language but we managed in charades and so on. I knew he was a good person by the way his goats bounced around playfully with him. He’d suffered a pretty gruesome accident with a saw, not uncommon in those parts.. I saw a number of men with similarly dramatically bandaged hands. He had also suffered a stroke recently, which I found out later after meeting his family. We visited him again the next day. Ionita Ionita thank you for sharing your morning and coffee with us <3 . #visitromania #maramures #goats #rural #rurallife #portraits #documentaryphotography #canonaustralia #auswip #travelphotograpy #australianphotographer
18.01.2022 Really amazing to be part of this world first exhibition beamed into space a few nights ago - sounds so unbelievable! A balloon launched into the stratosphere and images from both Portrait of Humanity 2019 and 2020 were broadcast across lots of radio frequencies into space, potentially communicating with any other civilizations. You can see my image of my daughter at around the 30:15 min mark, plus 200 images showcasing humanity around the globe in 2020. Congrats to all other photographers from around the globe who were part of this. Thanks so much The British Journal of Photography Magnum Photos and Portrait of Humanity for this surreal opportunity. https://access.bjpsubs.com/portrait-of-humanity-sent-into-/
18.01.2022 @hayleywest it was such a fun, creative experience photographing you. This portrait was taken at the Castlemaine Cemetery. Hayley’s art practice revolves around themes of death and dying. Sounds morbid but she absolutely is not. Quite the contrary: Hayley is highly motivated to provide avenues for people to be both educated about and feel comfortable talking about death and dying through a local Death Cafe and other outlets. She’s very grounded and matter of fact. She loves t...he dry, harsh earth of the goldfields area. I love this slightly ambiguous portrait of her. Knowing our work would be printed large and in only black and white, Hayley and I chose to use this tall, dry grass and the old derelict features of the old section of the cemetery as her backdrop. See Hayley’s portrait and others of local artists in the streets of Castlemaine for MAP Group Beyond The Studio show. #thedeparted #portraitphotography #mapgroupphotographer #canonaustralia #auswip #womenphotographer #castlemaine #portraitphotographer #melbourneportraitphotographer See more
18.01.2022 The Silence III. Taken during our second Covid lockdown in Melbourne. These walks through our local bush with my Poppa’s #foldingcamera have been so necessary to my mental health during this crazy time. I absolutely adore how the little lens on this camera renders light. I’m still terrible at framing with no viewfinder.. but it’s sort of all part of its charm.
18.01.2022 Excited to share that I joined MAP Group this year. MAP Group is an Australian documentary photographer's collective committed to high quality documentary photography, telling stories the media may not. I'm excited to be working on some projects with them next year. I am one of about 40 members, each of us photographers with diverse backgrounds. https://www.mapgroup.org.au/about/
18.01.2022 A reflective image of my friend and fellow photographer Jill Velinos. Thank you so much Jill for trusting me to make these portraits with you. I want to thank all the people who have trusted me this year to be their honest selves in front of my lens, especially with my personal work on femininity. I'm excited to be taking that work further in 2021. To all those who have supported my business this year, thank you so much - each job has meant so much to me.... Well done to all of us for navigating 2020, regardless of how we handled it: productive or unproductive; masterfully or clumsily.. we shared it all together and there was something a bit lovely about that. I felt this year was one huge global lesson in accepting what is, we had no other choice.
18.01.2022 Some images from a recent wedding I shot with friend and photographer Jill Velinos for Chloe and Brendan. Jill second shot for me for this wedding and helped me enormously on the day - her images are the two of the bridesmaids, I love them. Chloe and Brendan had a very unique wedding, celebrating not only their love but their love for animals. I really loved getting to know this couple.
17.01.2022 ** Now taking bookings! ** I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to work again now that Melbourne's lockdown restrictions have eased slightly. Now taking bookings for outdoor sessions - women's portraits, family sessions, couples, you name it, I'm there! I'm also taking bookings for businesses, for projects from November onwards. ... I shot this work for Australian Conservation Foundation earlier this year for the promotion of their bequest program.
17.01.2022 And next up in my celebration of contemporary Australian women photographers for IWD is Morganna Magee, in the spirit of women supporting women, lifting one another up. Morganna is well known for her ongoing series with teen girls 'Teenage Wildlife', which you can see here: https://www.morgannamagee.com/teenagewildlife#0... I'm lucky enough to be learning from her (at least I hope I'm actually putting that learning into practice!). Morganna is a deeply caring, honest and raw woman. She is perceptive, she really *gets* people. This shows in her storytelling and she also brings this to her teaching. Morganna spends many more hours invested in students of photography than she probably even has the hours for. She is a warm, effusive woman, it's impossible to not like her. Morganna is a big part of Lumina Collective - Australia's first photography collective of women photographers committed to Australian storytelling. https://www.luminacollective.com.au/ Here's to all the other great Australian women photographers who are slogging away at Australian storytelling - cheers to Morganna and the rest of you. Thanks for paving the way for the rest of us.
17.01.2022 I have lots and lots of work to share.. my work has been in high gear behind the scenes the past few months. (My lack of presence on this page suggests otherwise!). Last month I shot for Dandenong Ranges Open Studios with Burrinja again, which is still one of my favourite jobs of the year. There are 36 individuals and collectives in the upcoming 2019 program - it was a mission to shoot, edit and deliver in 4 weeks but I got there and enjoyed every bit of it. Here are some favourite images of artists I know and love up here.. Cameron Semmens Stephen Glover Tracey Roberts Gerard Russo Ramak Bamzar Thanks for having me again Burrinja!
17.01.2022 Apparently I’m a finalist, I didn’t know about these awards but I want to publicly thank the anonymous clients who went to the effort of nominating me, I’m so touched. Thank you.
17.01.2022 Thanks Australian Photography Awards - APA, I’m in the top 5 for doco category with my image Foreign Places. Good luck to the other 4 finalists!
17.01.2022 New work for my series on femininity (working title). 16.01.2022 A time lapse of fellow MAP members pasting up a panel in Castlemaine of local artists, at The Mill. Two of my images are here - one of Hayley West (second from left) and at the end on the right is Eliza Hull. Thanks for recording this Jaime. It’s been a big project, pasting up more 90 portraits on the streets of Castlemaine.
15.01.2022 Figs from my mother in law’s tree, the figs she grew up eating as a kid on #eviaisland #greece. Every year when we eat the first fruit from her trees I just can’t get over the colour and the aroma. Ella says ‘it’s like eating honey!’. On this day, she and I peeled and dried about 15 big, soft, juicy fruits, eating heaps along the way. I had an urgent need to make a still life, with my Poppa’s old folding camera. #stilllife #figs #greece #ensignselfix @rewindphotolab #analogphotography
15.01.2022 I have had the great fortune of working with a number of local businesses this past year. One I particularly love working with is local restaurant Coonara Springs. And yes I did get to taste the menu as we shot it.. :) And yes I have returned a few times since for more of Chef Luke's delicious ceviche... and plum tart.. and stuffed zucchini flowers... And yes, the garden is incredible! Thanks Leah Jones and Rob :) (I have so much work to share here, I'm a very poor Facebooker...!)
15.01.2022 I'm excited to be a finalist in the Maggie Diaz Photography Prize for Women for my image 'Foreign Places'. Sharing it with my friend Jill Velinos and other women whose work I admire makes it all the sweeter. Awesome to be part of a local prize that celebrates women's work using natural light, in memory of the late and great Maggie Diaz.
15.01.2022 A genuine (and pleasant) surprise to see Ella’s and my image Foreign Places recognised in this ABC News article. Five other Australian photographers were shortlisted in the Portrait of Humanity 2020. Brian Cassey’s portraits of Carol Mayer feature in the article.
15.01.2022 Final two days to order this print from Cream Town. Sizes/prices start A3/$100 and up. 50% of my takings will be paid to First Nations organisations here in Victoria. Heaps of other great artists and works for sale there. A new print coming for September.
14.01.2022 We had been home a week in Australia. The smokers outside the local #mountdandenong public hall at Chloe and Brendan’s wedding were all the more interesting: the cultural ways of Australian men having a yarn. The guy with the beard, full of character, was comparing the engine of a Subaru with some other car in a way that was deeply familiar to me, having grown up in rural Australia, with a Dad who could fix pretty much anything. The serious air, the onlooker decked in his Aku...bra style hat swigging from his stubby. I had fun photographing these two characters through the night. #australians #australianphotographer #weddingphotographer #melbourneweddingphotographer #documentaryphotography #smokers #canonaustralia #environmentalportrait #weddingguest #dandenongranges #dandenongrangesphotographer #yarraranges #auswip #farndonshall #australianculture See more

13.01.2022 I'm searching for legally blind female and non-binary participants for my photo series on femininity - do you know someone you can put me in touch with? I'm undertaking a photo series exploring the notion of femininity today in and around Melbourne. I am interviewing and photographing a wide range of women and non-binary people, asking them what they think femininity means to them. I'm looking for blind women and non-binary people who would be interested in participating. The... sessions are collaborative and I seek to represent participants in a shared, respectful and honest way. Participants would need to be prepared to have their images and thoughts shared publicly in both exhibition and media (thoughts may be shared anonymously if preferred). Participants would receive their images to keep as thanks. Through this work I hope to help empower women by sharing contemporary ideas on what femininity means to us. In this image: Eliza Hull, Australian singer/songwriter, mother and disability advocate, taken for the series earlier this year.
13.01.2022 I'm offering some rare outdoor mini sessions next week in Olinda with the bush as our backdrop. All kinds of couples and families welcome, including doggos :) Dates: Wednesday 25th, Friday 27th and Saturday 28th evenings. The weather forecast is looking really good. Details are in the flyer attached.
12.01.2022 I've just written about our experience staying with a lovely family in a rural village, Borsh, southern Albania, last July. It's taken me a long time to write this, I really wanted to honour this family properly. They really left a mark on our hearts. Pictured here is Annis, he works for the family as a shepherd. His story really moved us and shed light on the harsh reality of life in Albania during the 1990's. https://www.cathyronaldsphotography.com/stories-of-a-rural/
12.01.2022 I’m excited to be part of @loudandluminous 2020 women’s group show. 11.01.2022 I've just written about our memorable trip to northern Albania. There are a bunch of photos to share with you there. (Let me know if it is a little sluggish loading for you). Choose Balkans https://www.cathyronaldsphotography.com/northern-albania-w/
11.01.2022 Ella in our image ‘foreign places’ hanging on the walls (3rd from left) of Sunstudios Melbourne, ready for the awards night tomorrow! Thanks Australian Photography Awards - APA! Looking forward to seeing lots of friendly faces.
11.01.2022 Today I continue my tribute to contemporary Australian women photographers for International Womens Day. I share the work of long form documentary photographer Raphaela Rosella. https://www.raphaelarosella.com/ Her work has documented the lives of young mothers in her life who are navigating the struggles of social disadvantages of class, poverty and racism. Her work is both intimate and confronting. Her storytelling is impactful, honest, raw and also respectful. Her projec...t 'we met a little early, but I get to love you longer' (see the link under 'projects' on her site) is particularly powerful. At about 30, Raphaela has experienced a life many of us couldn't imagine. Her work has been recognised time and again with prestigious awards both nationally and internationally.
11.01.2022 I’m excited to have been shortlisted in British Journal of Photography’s @portrait_of_humanity 2020 along with 199 international photographers. It means a lot to be part of an international showcase of work that celebrates what humanity looks like for people of all skin colour and walks of life around the globe.. acknowledging that my perspective is that of a privileged, white, middle class Australian family fortunate enough to travel. Great to see diverse work from other Aussies as well. Our work will be published in the photo book Portrait of Humanity 2020, and will be beamed into space, apparently a world first! #portraitofhumanity #britishjournalofphotography #australianphotographer
11.01.2022 To all past clients - my print sale is now on. 20% off all sized fine art prints, both mounted and unmounted. Get in touch with me for details.
11.01.2022 I’m doing a takeover for Contact Sheet this weekend on Facebook and Instagram. They interviewed me recently on my personal practice. I’ll be sharing images from my series on femininity - work I haven’t yet shared. You can see other images on their Instagram account throughout the weekend. Check out their blog for the full interview https://contactsheet.com.au//ne/mentee-focus-cathy-ronalds

09.01.2022 I acknowledge the traditional owners of the land I stand on, the Wurundjeri people. I pay my respects to the elders past and present who cared for this beautiful land. This land was never ceded. I acknowledge that I, like so many Australians, grew up knowing little of how we came to inhabit this land - the stories of battle, stolen lands, stolen children and blood shed. Nor the stories of how Aborigines cared for and extensively cultivated the rivers, land and sea, working i...n deep relationship with plants and animals; how they built houses and large townships and maintained peace with one another across country. I hope we are raising a much better informed generation who will show reverence for Aboriginal people, their culture and their intricate knowledge of this beautiful land.. #reconciliation #wurundjericountry #acknowledgement #australian #australia #ensignselfix See more
07.01.2022 Happy New Year to all of you! Thank you for my busiest year yet in my business. I've had the pleasure of working with such interesting people. This wedding in early December was a highlight. Jodie and Paul have a bottomless pit of love and adoration for one another. They married and celebrated in Jodie's gorgeous cafe The laughing Owl, Belgrave. Jodie radiated utter joy all day. I particularly love her ecstatic expressions as she dresses with her daughter in the cafe pantry, then waits excitedly in the kitchen before entering the cafe to walk 'down the aisle' to her adoring partner Paul. Her cafe kitchen is her creative haven and their love for one another renders a fancy bridal suite totally superfluous. Jodie Cairns
06.01.2022 Cat man, Skyros Island. Diamond and I walked up to the castle each morning through the gorgeous old winding white washed streets of Skyros Town.. sweating buckets in that heat! This man was telling Diamond that the tourists feed the cats in summer and then in winter he claims he has about 90 of them to feed, when the island is quiet. These older guys are the last of the white singlet and trouser wearing Greeks, complete with flat plastic slip on sandals. Small details, but a... part of Greece that I’ll miss in years to come. I also love his intense expression and hand gesture. So very Greek, looks and sounds very serious, but just a simple passing conversation about the cats he loves. I was thinking of this man the last few days as a snow storm descends across Greece and Albania. I wonder how he and his street cats are faring? #australianphotographer #skyros #skyrosisland #greece #travelphotography #documentaryphotography #melbournephotographer #storytelling #passionpassport #travelphotographer #canonaustralia See more
06.01.2022 I'll be doing mini family sessions again this year at the Chestnut Festival, Kalorama. This is the only time of year I offer mini sessions. I've booked out quickly both years, so if you're thinking about it, book in ASAP :) I love being part of this festival and getting to know more families here on the mountain each year. What an amazingly friendly, down to earth community this is. This is a fundraiser for the Mt Dandenong Preschool. $10 of my session fee plus 10% of sales on your prints/images goes to the kindergarten.
06.01.2022 This a boomerang lamp I photographed last year for a business woman I know. She is hoping to see these lamps displayed in homes all around Australia to celebrate indigenous Australian culture and values. You can see more or buy one at her website https://www.auspatriotic.com.au/
05.01.2022 *nerd alert* .. a new camera love affair begins. I’m so very excited to start exploring with this beauty. She is such a beautifully made camera! Anyone got one or used one of these? A huge amount of money was invested in developing it and then a gentlemen’s agreement with rival company Hasselblad resulted in Rolleiflex not producing many at all. It was a high end camera in its time. I’m most excited about its tilt shift function.
05.01.2022 What a weekend this has been! My husband organised a home brew festival which was held today in our community, a fundraiser for our kids’ school, a huge weekend and lots of fun. And last night, during all the mad last minute preparations for the festival, I went into SUNSTUDIOS for the Australian Photography Awards - APA and was announced winner of the documentary category. In all the blur of this weekend that detail hasn’t quite sunk in, yet.. thank you so much Tom Goldner and Harriet Tarbuck for a great night! And thanks fellow photogs and friends Jill, Abi HT, Jo, Lauren and Rowena for being so beautifully supportive there last night
04.01.2022 This weekend we (MAP Group) launch our show ‘Beyond The Studio’ in Castlemaine. I have 5 portraits in the show, of 4 incredible women artists I met and photographed over 3 sweltering hot days in January. This is @helenbodycomb, contemporary mosaic artist. She is a woman of great depth, strength and intelligence. I admire her a lot. We met at her local waterhole, #vaughansprings south of Castlemaine. A dot on the map kind of place, but this place really etched itself into us,... after spending a few hours there swimming (and freaking out about the size of the freaking leeches, and snakes on the dry river bank ). A quiet, reflective place where it feels people have been meeting for a long time. It was perfect for our session together. I am still waiting to develop film from this session together. Beyond The Studios is a paste up project of over 90 portraits, celebrating the thriving artist community of Castlemaine in conjunction with the Castlemaine State Festival and open studios. MAP members have spent many hours there these past 3 weeks pasting up around the Town Hall, Library, The Mill and Lot 19. Check it out, it’s also a fantastic town and community to visit. Until March 31. #mapgroup #mapgroupphotographer #australianphotographer #documentaryportrait #canonaustralia #artist #castlemaine #womenphotographer #auswip #documentaryphotographer See more
04.01.2022 To celebrate International Women's Day this week, I want to share the work of a few contemporary Australian women photographers. First up is Aletheia Casey. She has photographed a few series that explore the massacres of Aboriginal people that occurred by white settlers as well as exploring the Stolen Generations. Her work is daring, brave and emulates the pain and complex emotions of our true history through a series of portraits and landscape images. This links to her serie...s on the Tasmanian 'Black War'. http://www.aletheiacasey.com/3684271-no-blood-stained-the-w The Guardian is currently running an editorial feature all week about the massacres that occurred throughout Australia, including her work: https://www.theguardian.com//massacre-map-australia-the-ki Most of us were not taught this at school. Many of us are not aware of this history. I admire Aletheia Casey's work greatly. She has tackled a grisly, confronting topic and produced powerful work that is contributing to raising our national consciousness about an incredibly shameful part of our history.
04.01.2022 Just discovered this project over the weekend. 209 women in the UK government were photographed by women photographers, and shown to commemorate 100 years since some women earned the right to vote in the UK. Very rich, empowering and uplifting set of portraits of women, celebrating how complex and multifaceted we all are.. https://www.209women.co.uk/209-women
03.01.2022 From The Silence, shot during Melbourne’s stage 4 lockdown. My time alone in the bush through those months embedded an even deeper sense of connection to the natural world for me. It is my daily mind medicine and the fuel for my fire. #filmphotography #foldingcamera #dandenongranges #mindfulness #mindfulnesspractice #fog #ferns #australianphotographer #ensignselfix #landscapephotography #australianlandscape @rewindphotolab @formatscan #massisolationaus #isolationart

I offer portrait sessions tailored specifically to your needs, to market your work, or simply to update your headshot. I also offer portrait sessions celebrating who you have become (yes, just because). Please get in touch, currently taking bookings for outdoor sessions. (Men - don't feel left out, I love working with you, too :))
01.01.2022 I just blogged about a Greek wedding I had the chance to photograph while we were visiting Greece in July. It was an incredible experience and I had so much fun people watching. Thanks again Kostas Fotis and Spyros Tassopoulos and especially Ilias Psixoguios Klairi Mouriki for having me at your wedding https://www.cathyronaldsphotography.com/a-greek-wedding/
01.01.2022 Giorg, Romanian shepherd. He was resting by the herd of cattle he was charged with. I sat and tried to chat with him to the sounds of the nearby stream and tinkling cowbells. I was really impressed by how he didn’t move an inch when I asked to photograph him, and he didn’t raise a stiff guarded expression like many of us do as soon as a camera is pointed our way. I wondered a lot in our travels about whether shepherds are very grounded and calm and mindful. They spend whole d...ays sitting with their flocks, with nothing but the moods, needs and movements of their animals, the environment they sit in and their thoughts to occupy them. Can you imagine working like that? None of the ‘busy means you’re important’ crap that goes in our society. None of the hollow hours spent on social media. Instead in tune with the needs of a bunch of sheep or cattle or goats and being present to the changes in weather or the presence of predators. I tried asking if he had email so I could send him his photo, I gave him my phone and he slowly typed out simply his name. 01.01.2022 I haven't posted my client work here for a long time. These images are from a recent family session here in the Dandenong Ranges. I love falling into step with a family and finding the little moments and expressions that make them uniquely *them* as a family. My selection here may not be the frames they choose to frame and hang on the wall - but they are hopefully the frames that make them feel seen, the ones that make an album. Photographing kids at this age is really interesting.. that beautiful, slightly awkward, in between stage that straddles both their childhood and their teens. Rebekah Cranmer

01.01.2022 Bonang Hwy, East Gippsland, post fires. @annetteruzickaphotography and I took the scenic route home from Canberra a week ago to check out the bush post fires. It is really devastating to see how much bush was burnt out.. the hardest I think was seeing logging coupes burnt out, where the bush had only been growing a year or two post logging. I did see one kangaroo hopping about in a particularly badly burnt area. And yes, so much epicormic growth and ferns resprouting in such ...a short amount of time.. but not all species respond so readily.. particularly where so much disturbance has already occurred. So much silt had washed off slopes from heavy rain.. where does the stored seed go? It really hurt our heads thinking about the ramifications for the ecology of this bush. Sorry for the dark and heavy image during a time of dark and heavy!. On a positive note - there were patches of unburnt bush through there, hopefully some wildlife was able to seek refuge in time. #eastgippslandfires #environmentalist #climatechange #australiasbushfires #bushfiresaustralia #bushfire #environment #conservation #ecology #ensignselfix320 #ishootfilm #filmphotography #kodakportra800 #kodak See more
