25.01.2022 This is an almost perfect mirror of what Zoom therapy is like from my side of the screen. There’s something magic about the exchange of energy that happens in the room that doesn’t happen in 2D, but I’m so grateful to have the technology to remain connected to my clients. I miss you all so very much.
24.01.2022 Not a fad - real people with complex lives, hopes, concerns, and RIGHTS.
23.01.2022 This is really helpful!
23.01.2022 Youth have consistently been trail blazers when it comes to social change and justice. Infuriating and frustrating to see here an adolescent specialist attempt to disempower and discredit a young person. A psychologist who has made his career out of teaching parents how to deal with adolescents does a deft job here of entrenching a power dynamic in which young people are gaslighted (gaslit?), muted, and de-centred around the very issue by which they will be impacted throug...hout their adult lives. This further embellishes the narrative that adolescents are nightmarish, wilfully obstructive, self-obsessed, walking mood swings and libidos - rather than support them having a voice, they need to sit down and shut up until their pre-frontal cortex fully develops (at around the ripe old age of 23, by which time they are also expected to have chosen and launched their careers and become respectable members of society). If I had a dollar for every time someone said to me just wait til they’re teenagers about some little kid I’d be a wealthy woman. I’m sick of it. Instead how about we amplify these young people’s voices, be curious about what the world looks like through a fresh lens, and celebrate their creativity and passion? Guide them by example, role modelling flexible thinking, ethical decision-making, curiosity, active listening and respectful communication? Sooner or later they’re taking the main stage anyway - let’s make our contribution positive!
21.01.2022 Stoked to be invited by Australian Women in Recruitment to sit on this panel for International Womens Day. We'll be discussing how to start talking about mental health, how to support our colleagues, friends and loved ones with mental health issues, and how to have safe conversations in the workplace. SO MUCH TO SAY!
21.01.2022 In which Miranda Ilchef discusses the benefits of doing things in delicious bite sized pieces in order to motivate yourself
21.01.2022 Lucky he was gone before my first client walked in! #surprise
20.01.2022 If you have a young trans or gender diverse person in your life and want to know more about how to support them in looking after their health and well being, please join us for our inaugural #Twenty10Talks panel. I’m really excited to contribute to this event... as many of you know, this is an issue close to my heart
20.01.2022 Borrowed from my beautiful colleague Jae
20.01.2022 In further news, Catt & Associates is expaaaannnnnding into new offices just down the hall in the beautiful St James Trust Building, and we're looking for exactly the right person to join our little team: a psychologist or social worker with fantastic counselling chops, a very good grasp on working in the spaces of sexual and gender diversity, a hunger for learning, and passion for their particular area of interest and expertise that you can feel when they talk about it. Is that you? Or someone you know? MESSAGE US!!
18.01.2022 Happy Friday morning!
17.01.2022 Well, I certainly need this right about now
17.01.2022 My first ever Insta event!
14.01.2022 Anyone hiding behind.....er, I mean basing their objections to singular they on the APA style guide will no longer have that out.
12.01.2022 One of my decluttering tricks is to set a 15 minute timer on my phone and race the clock. It’s amazing what a little adrenaline and self-imposed time pressure can accomplish.
09.01.2022 Folks affected by the bushfires are now entitled to 10 Medicare subsidised sessions (beyond what the typical Mental Health Care Plan offers), and don't need a referral from a GP to obtain the rebate. Message us for details. (This is a pic I took in Upper Colo in January, a couple of weeks after the fire went through. See the bit of hopeful green amidst the black and brown?)
07.01.2022 Super excited to be a part of this event, focussed on supporting our young trans and gender diverse folks as they navigate their way through, you know, life and stuff. Please come along, or share with anyone who might be interested!
06.01.2022 Omg fam it’s springtime at my house!
02.01.2022 My friend, Womens Weekly editor Samantha Trenoweth, put my sage advice on managing one’s mental health in lockdown in the May issue of the magazine so I guess that means I’ve come through with my sanity intact
