23.01.2022 Sunday with my mama; bold in red and reminiscing about a whole lot of memories. My fav ones are about my dad. Todays memory included a real pea-soup fog in London and my mum having to catch the train up to Scotland to see my dad who was getting one days leave from the Navy. Its World War II. Christmas Eve. My mum almost misses the train because the bus she needs to catch cant see in the fog to get to the train station. A man ends up walking in front of the bus with a torc...h. Mum feels certain the train will have left but its still there... too much fog. She ends up in a carriage with four gentlemen and they play cards all night using a suitcase as a table as the train creeps forward. My dad goes to the station to meet the train but it cant get to the end of the line because of the fog. It drops the passengers at the stop before. Mum dashes to her parents house where her mother tells her to wait upstairs until my dad comes back. Finally she hears someone call, Charles is here! and she flies down the stairs, into his arms. Theres a tear when she says, it was the most wonderful moment. 21.01.2022 Under the gorgeous sun, we walked the river. Stopped for coffee in a different spot. Met Tes who had a broken Eftpos machine and he met us, who had only cards and no cash. Had a happy chat, and then dear Tes made us coffee and said we can pay him another day. We are in awe of his trust and his generosity. Coffee never tasted so good. 09.01.2022 This morning I listened to Psychologist, Adam Grants podcast on the way to work. He talked about making high quality connections especially in this time of COVID. I got to work reflecting on this idea, the skies were grey and the rain coming down. I stood at the gate to welcome my little kiddies to school and they dashed in, pink-cheeked with cold but happy nonetheless because thats how kids roll no matter the weather! My toes were numb and I may have even coughed a coupl...e of times because of the cold but I was warmed by the happy families doing morning drop off. Not too much later, cosy in my office, this little care package arrived from one of the mums who heard me cough and thought I might need a hot honey and lemon drink and some cookies AND flowers to make me feel better. Boom! Thats a high quality connection in action. The kind of action that says, I see you and you matter.
