25.01.2022 It's TESTING WEEK at The Cave! What an epic day it's been in the gym There has been some incredible progress made! Some getting their first ever body weight Pullup or Dip following this program, and some HUGE PB's on our weighted dips and Pullups This kind of progress and strength doesn't happen by chance; it happens with hard work, consistency and following the plan. I am so dam stoked for you all!! What I loved the most was seeing you all cheer one another on, celebr...ating those victories with your gym crew! 25.01.2022 The Mighty Jarrah Trail Run I threw out a challenge and these girls took it and ran with it I said I'd do the half marathon distance, if they would do the 6km leg and train towards it. This meant I also had to spend time training for the race. I am so so proud at the effort that went in, in the lead up to this event! For some running is just not enjoyable, but like any thing in life; if you invest some time into working on it you can improve and even get great at it...... and as those improvements come, all through hard work and determination, it starts to feel rewarding and maybe even enjoyable (). The same could be said here for those whom running comes more naturally but perhaps lifting doesn't. That doesn't mean 'it's not for you', it just means you haven't practiced it enough . This was a huge achievement girls!! WELL DONE!!! And... they are even keen to do another... who woulda thought!? Bec

24.01.2022 A big THANK YOU to everyone who got involved with our Fundraising efforts this past weekend! Our final tally came to $1900, with $1000 being donated to @wireswildliferescue and a further $900 donated to @redcrossau. Every little bit helps and it was great to see everyone so keen to contribute to a good cause. We have also drawn the lucky winner of our 1 month gym membership giveaway! It's been incredible to see how driven and active many of you were whilst having to train from home... BUT it's definitely allowed us all to further appreciate the value of training alongside like minded people. 23.01.2022 FUNDRAISER It is a heartbreaking time for Australia. I am from the east coast and I have many friends and family in affected areas. I grew up visiting many of these places on family holidays and have so many great memories of places that are now burning I hope everyone remains to be safe I feel helpless so far away from home. There are a lot of people (and animals ) in need at the moment, and every little bit helps so we will be having a fundraiser at The Cave this c...oming Saturday the 11th of January - Session times: 7.15am 8.15am 9.15am $10 a session, members and non members welcome (book via mind body or contact me to book a place for non members) Dani from @oly_4_kids will also be hosting an open day at our gym from 10.30am-11.30am, Also $10 to join and help contribute Contact her for more details on this We will also be doing raffle tickets for a 1 month membership, $5 per ticket. 21.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!! 6 years ago a giant leap was taken, from garage gym to opening up a proper facility. We had just a very small handful of clients at the time (6 actually ) So it was in hindsight quite a bold move . The vision was a space that anyone could train at, feel welcomed and encouraged and could learn how to lift, train and move their bodies in a way that would see them finding the best shape of their lives. A place that has a thriving community, where friend...ships could form, a home away from home When I look back each year on all of the memories, I'm very proud to see that all of those goals and dreams are unfolding everyday in this incredible space. This year saw a new challenge with our forced closure, a real test for our community! But we seem to have passed that test with flying colours too! Our members (friends) have had our back in a hard time, have kept that fun, friendship and banter going even from afar, and are now hitting it hard in our Outdoor sessions. We are so grateful for everyone who has been a part of this amazing journey over the years! It is our members who bring this place to life and make It a truly special and incredible gym to be a part of. THANK YOU! And YES! We will be having the mother of all parties when we can!! See more

20.01.2022 INCOMING From the 18th of May we will be back in the gym doing what we do best!! The best in group training! We will now be adding some express 30 Minute sessions to our timetable!! Perfect for those short on time, those who prefer a little less barbell work, or those who would like to add some extra cardiovascular work into their training week. Heart pumping, sweat inducing, lung BURNing goodness. Who's KEEN!?!

19.01.2022 Time to RE-BOOT ourselves back into training and back into routine We know it's been a tough time for many to get motivated and hit regular workouts. You may be feeling like you've lost all of your fitness/strength and found solace in snacks or few extra than normal during this period of isolation Guess what!!? It's OK that things didn't go to plan and you didn't train like a weapon in this time. It's OK if you aren't as fit as you were or have put on a couple of kilo...'s. What's done is done, and many are feeling the exact same way... BUT there are opportunities now to pull yourself out of that training slump and get back to feeling fit, strong and healthy again - Hallelujah! We will be keeping all of this in mind as we recommence our group sessions in the gym #wegotyoufam Extra technique work to get you feeling comfortable on the barbell etc again. Lower volume within the sessions initially so you can recover properly between sessions and keep your comeback to training as safe and enjoyable as possible. We can all get back to where we were, this isn't the end of the world. Come in, get moving, don't stress about numbers on the bar just yet or that you can't get as many Pullups out as you once could. It'll come in time. Enjoy the ride, and having people to train with once more WOO HOO! This is also a great time for anyone who has been thinking about joining us to jump on board. Though we are unable to train together in our 4 walls, the community, passion, friendship and banter very much continues. All of our clients have taken with them a Kettlebell or Dumbell, we are providing daily programming, video tutorials on the movements as well a...s movement alternatives and the support of your Coach the whole way In a challenging time, it brings me immense joy to see so many of you still training and making use of these sessions I've planned. We won't make you do aerobics You work to your own individual abilities and are shown how to do everything from a complete beginner level - zero expectations from us. No mirrors, no ego's. Just a humble group of mates to chase down some goals alongside. It's bloody good times

16.01.2022 The LADS Here's what I love about this picture. All three of these legends are from completely different walks of life. Differing ages. One's been training with us for years, another for a while, and another has just begun his journey. They did this session as a team and I heard nothing but encouragement for one another the whole time. They did slightly different movement variations based on where there own INDIVIDUAL abilities are at now, and those difference's are RESPEC...TED. They all got a great session in This is a place where ego's are left at the door. This gives space for team work, comradery and support to kick some dam ass no matter where in your journey you are. 16.01.2022 BEGINNERS, listen up Something I hear often in this little neck of the woods that is Mandurah, is that people can maybe feel they need to get fitter or stronger before starting at The Cave (I understand that walking into a gym that has lots of already fit and strong people can sometimes feel intimidating). Just about all of our amazing clients have come to us with minimal experience training the way that we do. They have become fit and strong due to -... 1) Consistent training over a long period of time. 2) Following our unique programming, and using great technique (which they are all taught, and are constantly being fine tuned on - you aren't expected to know a thing ). Our Coaches at The Cave are the most experienced Strength & Conditioning Coaches in Mandurah. If you are interested in learning how to lift barbells, kettlebells and building a strong athletic body then this is the best gym to do that.. and if you can learn great habits, great movement patterns from the get go, that's FAR easier then trying to de-train poor movement patterns that have come about due to a lack of great coaching. We LOVE beginners, the progress a beginner can make by overcoming the fear of stepping into this environment of ours, then allowing us to take them by the hand and guide them... is HUGE! 16.01.2022 The beautiful Lisa on her last session today before taking time out to have her bub and recover. Lisa, like a number of women we have had training at The Cave (many recently, something in the water at the moment we think ) was able to train through her entire pregnancy. Like all of our mum's to be, she kept in communication with her GP, and with us and we were able to work with her throughout this 9 months. Yes some modifications to training are required through pregnancy but there are many ways in which you can come in and move and leave feeling great Well done Lise, and we are all super excited to meet your newest addition when the time comes!

16.01.2022 The Cave's @ Home Programming We are a couple of weeks in and it's great to see everyone training hard from home! I know many of you are likely missing the barbell (I get it, who doesn't love barbell training ) BUT remember... ... Your body doesn't know the difference between a KB/DB or BB... yes they feel different, but what's important is that we are lifting some kind of load. Regardless of what type of resistance it is... if we work hard, do sets that are close to failure, use varying tempos and rep ranges to ensure we continue to adapt you most certainly will not lose muscle (unless you are also adding it tonnes of extra conditioning work like running and are also in a big calorie deficit) Strict bodyweight training and challenging yourself to progress with movements and level of difficulty of movements will also help you maintain lean mass and even improve body composition - ever seen a gymnast that doesn't look super athletic and strong? Me either Point here is... you're training at home alone, these sessions will be as tough or as easy as you make them. You guys left me with no middle range weights, I've been training super hard and am already seeing changes in my own body composition due to this. You can use this time to let everything slip, to do half assed training because there's no one there watching you... OR... you can be honest with yourself in your sessions. You can work hard, even when you don't feel like it, and come out of this time at home a dam freaking BEAST! Now imagine if we can do that, and THEN you are all unleashed back into the gym and onto barbells.... boy oh boy. 14.01.2022 We INVEST in movement. We focus on moving well and executing things with great technique before we concern ourselves with moving too fast. We enjoy variety, but realise that too much variety can limit our potential for building great strength and ability in the things that will really help us become stronger, fitter, faster and change our physique. In order to get better at doing something - you need to do that thing, over and over to get really good at it! Want pull ups? Pu...sh ups? Etc.. A proper training plan will get you there a lot faster A large part of our program is and always has been built around great movements that we know are extremely effective, using progressions that help us improve no matter where in our journey we are.... Oh and with 'just enough' variety to keep things fun and interesting This is training, and let us tell you... It can be a little addictive even for those who have never considered themselves "Gym types" . Bec

Sometimes that's good and called for, but it's the accumulation of mostly average training sessions where the real progress is made. A lot of us in recent times lost routine, and so lost that consistency. If that's you, now is a great time to do a lot of those kind of average training sessions, likely lighter and with less intensity than what you were doing. TH...AT'S OK. Build your base once more. Lay the foundations, just as you did when you first began your journey. This is just a small hiccup! With consistency and a little patience and you will be right back to where you were before the world shut down Bec

09.01.2022 #TBT - A little reminder on what you can achieve with your training if you stay the course LONG TERM and make this thing a HABIT (As in... NOT relying on motivation to train, but relying on discipline instead). Consistency and discipline is what got me to this place, as well as setting short term achieveable goals and some big long term goals too. We all have this in us! NOW GO GET SOME!

We say to ourselves, this is too hard. I can't do this. I'll never be able to do that. I'm too old. I'm too unfit. I'm too overweight. Thoughts like these enter our minds and limit us from reaching our true physical potential. ... Our bodies are amazing resilient things that respond incredibly to the demands we place upon it when training. If we could just have some faith that we all have incredible potential... regardless of starting point. Do the thing that feels uncomfortable. Do it over and over and soon it becomes easy. That's how it works. Almost every day in the gym I am delighted by the surprise and joy I see in someone's face who has achieved something they never thought they'd be able to do. Rather than writing it off for themselves... they steadily put in the work and did something amazing for themselves. 05.01.2022 Fear... nerves... anxiety... common feelings when on the brink of trying something new, and something I'm pretty sure ALL of us have felt at some point in our lives. In fact I know for certain that many people feel this way before stepping into a gym for the first time or even a new gym for the first time despite having trained elsewhere. We worry that we won't be able to keep up, that we won't be able to do something and will feel silly or judged by others. This fear can ho...ld us back and stop us from doing things that we may also have a strong desire to try! The fear is holding us back from reaching our full potential Some things to consider Every single one of us, in the gym or in any other pursuit in life was once a beginner. This means that when we see someone new not only are you not being judged you are likely being applauded for also stepping outside of your comfort zone. . . If you can't do something... it doesn't matter one little bit in fact... it's great! We have just found a great goal to work on! You are given the tools to work towards being able to do those things and soon you will be able to! None of us excel in every thing, but let's not let that hold us back . . People are nice and want to see you succeed! We can make up some funny stories in our minds when feeling fear/anxiety but remember...that's just a story (I do this sometimes too ) and might not reflect the reality of a situation. . . The reality of the situation with us, is that you will learn about your body and how to move it. That you aren't expected to know a single thing about training nor be expected to perform at any level other than the one you're currently at. That you will meet LOADS of very friendly people who will encourage you, not judge you. 05.01.2022 Let's finish 2020 on a STRONG note Its been quite a year so far! I think many of us have felt our training has been somewhat de-railed with a few curve balls being thrown our way There's still time to get the wheels back in motion and get back on track In fact it feels pretty good to have some power over this one aspect of our lives when there's so much uncertainty lurking around. This is for you if:... You've fallen off the wagon and want to regain some strength and fitness and get those good habits back If you have always wanted to try barbell training, but have been too nervous to give it a go for fear of not knowing how to do it safely or feeling like you'll look silly (we love beginners and there is no expectation that you have any knowledge on how to lift ) If you like the idea of following a structured program that allows for weekly progressions with your weights. 04.01.2022 2020 Perth Trail Series Bloated Goat Trail Run with this awesome little squad That was tough! Hats off to this crew for trying something different and stepping out side of the comfort zone I LOVE that we have a community of people in our gym that are keen to get out and be active on the weekends, to try new things and test the limits of what their bodies can do. Some of this crew would not call running a strength of theirs, but still they took a leap and did it anyway - this is the best way to get good at those things you find challenging!! 04.01.2022 We have lots of pretty strong people training at The Cave. Many are everyday folk who came into our gym with little to no exposure to Strength Training. What most people think they are capable of VS what they are actually capable of with the right plan and mindset are often worlds apart! You CAN do those things you have written off for yourself! Pullups, pushups, lifting your own bodyweight and beyond on barbell lifts, run 1km/5km... whatever it is! You CAN do it if you.... ... Are CONSISTENT in your training. Follow a program designed to meet those goals and RECORD your sessions so you can progressively overload each week. Work on the things you find hard and don't cop out - This is where the best GROWTH is made (It can kinda suck but it's 100% worth it!) Have PATIENCE, Strength takes time! Its the accumulated effort week in and out over TIME that renders big results, not 30 day challenges (Our clients don't have an end date to their training) for us it's a LIFESTYLE Give your body and yourself some credit We all have the power to make incredible changes if we are Pro-Active and have the right people in our corner to help us achieve those big goals! 04.01.2022 We ALL have things... we kinda suck at or that don't come 'naturally'. We are all unique in our own way and excel in certain things, and find other things pretty dam tough. This is so individual! The beauty of training in an environment like ours is that we challenge you to work on those things you aren't great at and would maybe avoid if training alone. It is through improvements on the stuff we suck at, that we get the most benefit and the biggest sense of achievement!! D...on't half arse those things! Face them head on and work your arse off until they become easy 10 mins, a few times a week... before or after your session... dedicated to working on things you suck at or just want to improve... can go a LONG way. This could be technique work, running, bodyweight movement, flexibility to help improve position in your lifts, or even time spent meal prepping. Complaining about how you suck at something rarely helps you improve, DOING something about it... well that's a whole different ball game My movements for the next little while are Ring dips and toes to bar what do you want to work on? 02.01.2022 What's your plan for the week? What are you going to do to bring yourself closer to your goals? Control your controllable's ... If you have a busy week ahead, consider how you can make it easier to get good nutrition in by planning ahead. That might mean some meal prep today or ensuring you have some good quick options for when you're time poor or 'can't be bothered' cooking. Book your training sessions in, hold yourself accountable to turning up to those sessions. If you have goals in the gym (be it performance based or aesthetic) turning up is step 1! BUT better than that, is turning up with an intention of improving. Working hard, not just rolling through the motions. Record your weights, how you felt and embrace the chase! This is the path to better performance and physique! (Along with CONSISTENCY). Sleep.... well it makes everything better! Better recovery, better mood, less cravings... the list goes on. How much are you getting? Set yourself some sleep 'goals' this week too (I know some of our parents might struggle here - you lot keep being soldiers!).. I'm setting myself a strict lights off by 9pm to better my sleep habits this week.
