23.01.2022 Video 1 or 3 on how I make UHD work on an older 1080p projector.
22.01.2022 Revisited Casino Royale on Blu-ray Disc. Have not watched this is years. Still a great movie and a really nice transfer.
22.01.2022 The new OPPO 203 is an awesome player.
22.01.2022 On Monday (30/03/20) evening, I installed those new 1.25x optics into an MK5 case for a client. The optics are physically the same size but the final adjustment position is very different from the standard 1.33x optics. The distance from my projectors lens and the screen is approximately 3.8m. Both MK5 lenses have been set up for this throw distance and both types of optics can be set to a perfect corner to corner focus. ... First image is an MK5 Aussiemorphic Lens using the 1.33x optics. Note that the front lens thread is exposed. The 2nd image is the other MK5 Aussiemorphic Lens using the new 1.25x optics. Note the front lens is wound deep inside the case. These 1.25x optics need to sit much closer together than the 1.33x optics. These new optics are amazing. I have not posted a screen capture as I dont have a 17:9 projector or the required 1.25x scaling. A 17:9 projector is what is known as a true 4K with pixel counts of 4096x2160. A 16:9 projectors is 3840x2160. This includes pixel shifters. The over engineering of the Aussiemorphic MK5 case has worked out well as it now has allowed an upgrade path for existing owners, should they move from 16:9 to 17:9 projectors. Both types of optics are available now. PM for pricing and ordering.

21.01.2022 The Aussiemorphic MK5 lens
21.01.2022 Just watched the BD of the UHD version of TERMINATOR 2 JUDGEMENT DAY. A new cleaner transfer and probably the cleanest this film has looked. The new disc gives all three versions of the film but I only watched the 1991 theatrical version. I think that they have used a touch too much DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) in places and in other parts, the film is stellar, revealing stuff I have not seen before and I have seen this film many times. So it makes you wonder what the tru...e limits of 35mm film to digital really are. The problem with too much DNR is that some skin tones can look a bit like clay. At least the edge enhancement of the previous release has been backed off. The only part I noticed objectionable EE was on the edge of Sarahs K-Bar when she stabs it into the table. I always felt the previous release (Cyberdyne Edition) had a gamma error (i noticed similar errors on other Studio Canal releases) and this seems to have been fixed on this version. The CG still holds up quite well considering the age of the film (1991). Sure it does look soft in places, but the effect works as during morphing, the T1000 loses any sharp details anyway. The soundtrack seems to be the same EXtended Rystrom mix from the Special Edition released back in 2000 on DVD. If you are a fan of this film, this is must own.
20.01.2022 One of the most commonly asked questions about the #Aussiemorphic Lens is "how do I get corner to corner focus? " The answer to that question starts with physical set up. The beam of light from the projector must pass through the centre on the horizontal axis. It can be offset vertically as my picture shows. If it is offset, you dont get corner to corner focus. To see where the beam is sitting, place a piece of paper between the projector lens and the anamorphic.
20.01.2022 Adding a back light is just the cream on the cake. This is my LCR array behind my acousticly transparent screen.
17.01.2022 Doesn't matter. I have a work around for this.
17.01.2022 The OPPO 203 has an amazing feature where it can convert HDR to SDR. This is really valuable when using this player with a projector.
17.01.2022 The new S&M HDR UHD calibration disc is amazing. So many purpose made tools on this disc. My display can do P3 colour and this is an actual screen shot after calibration.
17.01.2022 If you are new to home theatre, and need help on designing the layout, I can help. I do charge a fee for this and I provide you with an easy to use, 3D model drawn in Sketch Up. Regardless of your systems configuration, the rule is simple - if you fail to plan and you have planned to fail. Over recent the years, the basic layouts have had to change to accommodate the new formats like Dolby ATMOS/DTS-X. This room is showing a 7CH ATMOS system. Note the Surrounds are on the back wall, not the side walls. This is done so that there will be sound all around you. Also note the heights of the Surrounds have been lowered to give greater separation from the Overheads. LCR and SW remain the same.
16.01.2022 The Aussiemorphic Lens evolved from a prism based anamorphic adapter to a true cylindrical lens in 2009. The original optics were 1.33x for use with 16:9 projectors. Cylindrical lenses are superior to prism based adapters because you can adjust the spacing between the optics to bring the image into a perfect focus at any distance with the operational range of the anamorphic lens. D-Cinema projectors are 17:9 because they use multiples of 1024 pixels. A 2K DCI projector i...s 2048 pixels wide and a 4K DCI projector is 4096 pixels wide. The true 4K home projectors (most notably from SONY and JVC) are also 17:9. Where a 16:9 UHD image chip is 3840x2160, these true 4K projectors are 4096x2160. Therefore these projectors need 1.25x anamorphic optics, not the more common 1.33x used for 16:9 projection. So I am proud to be introducing the new verson of the Aussiemorphic Lens with the option of either 1.33x or 1.25x. This is an exciting time for home cinema.
16.01.2022 The S&M BDs have been the reference for calibration discs. I have just added their latest UHD HDR edition to my calibration kit.
15.01.2022 Now this is interesting. The coloured arc called the Spectrum Locus is the studied limits of human vision. Inside that area are Rec709 (HDTV) and DCI P3 (digital cinema and most UHD displays). BT2020 is not shown. If it were, it would still sit inside the Spectrum Locus. Now check out the ACES triangle. It is larger than the limites of human vision.
15.01.2022 Another happy customer. Epson TW9400 and 135" screen. My camera doesn't pick up the colours as well as they are on screen.
15.01.2022 Talk about a Wide Colour Gamut. The Epson Laser Projector covers most of the BT2020 range.
14.01.2022 So I have decided to share my cheat on getting Dolby Vision and HDR-10 to work on my older SDR projector. I recently added the OPPO 203 UHD player. The player offers some really good control over the video signal. As it turns out, Dolby Vision does not allow these controls to work. Lucky the projector controls do still work including vertical stretch. These are HDR formats require bright displays to work. Ideally you are supposed to have 100 nits on screen. Not many ...projectors are going to do that, especially on a big screen. So my cheat is to find the limits of my projector using Dolby Vision as the reference and adjust the user controls in the OPPO to allow both HDR-10 and SDR program to work. Like if you want to know more.
13.01.2022 Normally when we think of calibration, we think about big screens (projection systems and TVs). An ISF calibrator can also improve your PC monitor, phone or tablet.
13.01.2022 Upgraded my BenQ W6000 DLP to a JVC X3 yesterday. So good to have decent blacks. So even though this is still 1080p and SDR, it is brighter than the previous projector and has a wide colour gamut.
12.01.2022 Something exciting is coming soon. Watch this space... If you are as keen as I am to know, then let me share this. ... The current state of projection is 16:9. To project Scope requires a 1.33x anamorphic lens and my MK5 was launched in 2011 with optical coating upgrades in 2013 for that purpose. Now that projection has evolved to UHD, the e-shifter versions still need a 1.33x, but the true 4K projectors need a different magnification factor of 1.25x. Therefore the MK5 will be available with either 1.33x or 1.25x with an upgrade path for all those with the current 1.33x optics.
12.01.2022 It amazes me with the number of people buying 4K TVs, how many still watch SD free to air, SD Foxtel or DVD. Analogy: 4K TV = high performance sports car UHD 4K content = 98 octane premium fuel... 1080P Blu-ray = 95 octane DVD = E10 91 octane Let that sink in.
09.01.2022 For sale. 1. OPPO BDP 103D $450ono. Excellent condition and original packaging. Local pick up preferred. SOLD 2. Anamorphic Lens optics $1800ono. Can ship world wide.... 3. Phillips BDP3000 $50. This is the only player apart from OPPO that can break the video stream to allow subtitle shift. Pick up only please. 4. BenQ W5000 projector FREE for local pick up. Only one half of the image chip works, so this would be good for spare parts. If you can get it fixed, you would have one great projector as this was one of last 0.9 inch DLP chips.
09.01.2022 Giving the BenQ W1700 a test run. Not perfect and does have its faults, but what it does for the price is pretty good.
08.01.2022 "Scientific studies have pinpointed blue light as form of light that's especially aggressive in triggering sleeplessness.Blue light suppresses melatonin production for more than twice as long as other light wavelengths, and alters circadian rhythms by twice the degree." I have measured displays where the blue bar is reading 180%! All modern displays can and should be set to D6500K. I can calibrate your TV, phone and other devices, setting the amount blue light to be the correct level. #D6500K
07.01.2022 Something new coming soon. #aussiemorphic_lens

06.01.2022 Another happy customer. Epson TW9400 and 135" screen. My camera doesnt pick up the colours as well as they are on screen.
06.01.2022 Even though the ISF use D6500K (x:0.313, y:0.329), I decided to explore the DCI settings. Interestingly enough, both methods use the same x,y points for colour.
04.01.2022 Phone is down. If you need to contact me, leave me a message.
04.01.2022 Today I was able to add a HD DVD copy of JPK DVE. Even though the format failed, it represents a very important part of the video evolution.
04.01.2022 So I decided to revisit AVATAR tonight. It has been a while since I last watched this movie. When I did last watch this, it was on a borrowed 3D projector. In 2D, the image just looked flat. That was when the popular misinformstion of the HT world said Gamma of 2.2 was correct. As it turns out, a Gamna of 2.35 is closer to what we want. My projector off offers 2.4 and the image looks so much better with the slightly darker look as the image comes out of black slightly slower. The depth of field I loved about the 3D version is clearly visible in 2D now. I will be curious to see what the UHD release of this film offers.
04.01.2022 White balance on the JVC
04.01.2022 Upgrade time again. Today I changed out the OPPO 103D for a OPPO UDP 203

02.01.2022 I had the opportunity to upgrade the older JVC X3 1080p DiLA projector to a JVC X7000 e-shift 4k UHD projector. It is now installed in the rack and let the tweaking begin. It seems to be projecting over 110nits on screen which means that I can run it in HDR mode.
