20.01.2022 It is pretty windy in Sydney today and reminds me of how important protecting your PC or laptop from power surges is. Power surges can come in the form of black outs, brown outs (where power dips), or surges where power spikes. This is a very common reason for Power Supplies failing but you can easily protect your equipment with a simple power board with surge protector or a more sophisticated UPS battery back-up system. If you already use surge protectors, be sure to test t...hem to check they are still in good working condition. Of course in thunderstorms, surge protectors will not work against lightning so always disconnect your equipment from mains power during a storm. More information on surge protectors here: http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/ar/173224/surge_protectors/

14.01.2022 Over the past couple of weeks the number of computers containing spyware agents in the form of toolbars in Internet browsers have been on the rise. These toolbars can be installed via pop-ups on websites or, as part of the installation of another program. Two of the most common ones are "Delta Toolbar" and "Babylon Toolbar". These browser add-ons attach themselves to Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox and set their search page as your Home Page or Start Page. They ...use this to then deliver advertisements to your PC as well as collect personal information you enter into the browser, such as your email address, phone numbers etc. You can avoid accidentally picking up this spyware by using your browser's built-in pop-up blocker function or being very careful when installing programs that ask if you would like to also install any browser add-ons.

06.01.2022 As the Christmas season draws near, be careful of promotions aiming to UP-SELL and push products you don't really need. That $699 Intel Core i3 Laptop that's being promoted and pushed on you might be overkill for your needs. If you're only browsing the net, social media, office documents; a cheaper laptop in the $400 price range will most likely do. These would be using the likes of Celeron, Pentium CPU's which are still as technically advanced as a 6th generation i3. For more specific information or advice, feel free to contact me.

01.01.2022 How many programs on your computer are opening as soon as you turn on your PC? These programs, known as Start-Up applications launch themselves the moment you login to Windows. They usually place themselves in the taskbar tray next to your clock in the lower-right of the screen. You can also click on the arrow there to see icons representing these running applications. Some common applications that do this are Skype, Adobe Manager, Mouse and Keyboard programs as well as... various updater programs. While many applications run in the background consuming little memory, having too many of these applications can have your computer working harder than necessary. And if your PC or laptop has limited memory, this can be a significant hindrance to performance. A good idea is to get to know what programs are starting up automatically with Windows and ask yourself: Do I really need it running all the time? If not, many programs will have an option box in their settings, mostly likely titled: Start with Windows.

01.01.2022 This virtually silent PC is designed to dampen fan and hard disk vibration, thanks to acoustic dampening foam and rubber seals. It still packs a punch with a Cooler-Master Silent-PRO 520W Power Supply, latest Core i5 CPU, SSD for fast boot up times and room for a gaming video card.
