17.01.2022 Today is #WorldBrailleDay The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how vital it is to disseminate essential information in accessible formats, like braille. 08.01.2022 As we begin the new year and aim for a fresh start, the world's most vulnerable continue to work through the complex impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 CASES The Pacific has continued to have relatively small numbers of cases and deaths, although the territories of French Polynesia and West Papua continue to be the Pacific Island region’s COVID-19 hotspots.... ECONOMIC IMPACT While the health implications of the Covid-19 pandemic have been limited in most Pacific Island Countries, the economic implications are severe. POVERTY LEVELS A reduction in tourism and a decline in the flow of remittances has reduced household income, leaving a large portion of the Pacific population with weaker food security. Extreme poverty is also likely to increase significantly. FOOD SECURITY Until travel restrictions are loosened, it is likely that Pacific economies will continue to struggle. As a result, food security in the region is expected to remain weaker than before the onset of the pandemic. Learn more: https://www.endcovidforall.com/
