17.01.2022 Happiness is wanting what you already have. We spend so much time wanting more in our lives whether it is the next promotion, more money, more clients, more holidays, a new car, more weight on the bar, new clothes, whatever it may be. Dont get me wrong, it is great to have goals and aspirations and work hard for what we want. Though having the mindset of I will be happy/satisfied when can gets us in to trouble.... No matter what we get or achieve, there will always be something more. There will always be a newer, shinier, flashier car. There will always be someone making more money than you. Someone who does better athletically than you. Someone or something else to liken to that can make you feel inadequate or inferior in comparison. The vast majority of us are now at a stage in our lives that we used to look forward to. We now have what we used to want, what we used to crave! Focusing on what we already have and practising being grateful for the things already in our lives can go a long way to increasing your happiness. #CBPhysiotherapy #AirportWest #PortMelbourne *This is a concept that Hugh Van Cuylenburg of the Resilience Project talks a lot about. 04.01.2022 It is extremely well documented that exercise is critically important for our health, and this is no different as we get older! High-quality evidence demonstrates that balance and functional exercises reduce the rate of falls and that engaging in a range of different types of physical activity can help to improve a wide range of elements of physical function as we age. Evidence indicates that the risk of fall-related injury is reduced with multicomponent physical ac...tivity (combinations of balance, strength, endurance, gait and physical function training), and thus this should be performed on 3 or more days/week in those aged over 65. 04.01.2022 Think about this: globally, men die 6 years earlier than women. To make it worse, the reasons are largely preventable. 01.01.2022 RETURNING TO THE GYM SAFELY Gyms in Melbourne open up this week - bloody amazing news after a super tough year! However it is important to remember that our risk of injury is much higher when returning to training after a lay off. This is due to a couple of main reasons:... *Detraining effect from not training (we lose strength & conditioning far quicker than we gain it). *Spikes in the acute:chronic workload ratio (training in the current week is significantly higher than our workload over the last month which research tells us increases injury risk). *Hard working attitude (we often want to pick up where we left off, or want to work harder to make up for lost time). So to ensure you aren’t breaking down over the next few weeks, resist the temptation to smash yourself early. Take it easy for a few weeks & reduce your intensity. Slowly let your body adapt to the return, and aim to build yourself up over the next month or so. #CBPhysiotherapy #AirportWest #PortMelbourne
