18.01.2022 A crowd of just over 100 people packed the Curumbine Community Centre last Saturday evening to hear The Challenge Brass Band & Challenge Brass Training Band lead them on a Rock Music Journey for the ages!! The main band started with Buddy & Elvis followed by Ricky and the Training Band show casing the Beatles before the Senior Band led by Evan resumed working all through the ages to some fancy Heavy Metal numbers. (fitting for a brass band ;) ) The audience enjoyed plenty of ...food & beverages, some great raffle prizes, good company and some awesome entertainment. A great night was had by all. A big thank you to everyone who attended.

16.01.2022 A Statement From Our Chairperson. After a discussion yesterday, the committee has made the difficult decision to cancel all band engagements for the next four weeks. We feel that this is the most socially responsible course... of action to reduce the risk of the spread of coronavirus. This will include: -Tuesday night rehearsals of training band and senior band. -Sunday afternoon music ensembles and lessons. -The upcoming Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. -The social dinner planned for 21st March. As you know, the Nationals and the training band's gig at Cambrai Village have already been cancelled by the organisers. It is very sad that all our hard work preparing for these gigs will not come to fruition. Both senior and training bands were sounding great, so thank you, everyone, for your fantastic efforts. Special thanks to Evan, Carolyn, Chris and Lorraine for their behind the scenes work. The committee will review the situation in one month's time and I will keep you up to date with any developments. In the meantime, please keep up with your practice at home. Once the band is back in business there will be lots to do. Further advice on the Coronavirus COVID-19 can be found from the following recommended sources: Australian Government Department of Health (www.health.gov.au) or for general advice regarding COVID-19, call the Australian Government's Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080. Look after yourselves and your loved ones, Ricky (Committee Chairperson)

08.01.2022 -=NEW MD=- Over the covid break period we unfortunately lost our MD Evan Williams due to work commitments. Fortunately though for CBB we have been able to obtain the services of Ian Jones as our NEW MD.... Ian Jones commenced playing the euphonium at the age of twelve whilst living in South London, an instrument he has continually played since that time. During his time in London he was a member of both the South London Youth Band and Upper Norwood Band of The Salvation Army. In 1973 Ian and his family emigrated to Melbourne where he attended the Camberwell church and continued his euphonium playing in their corps band. Subsequently he became the Musical Director of Hawthorn and Waverley Temple bands of The Salvation Army. A move to the Band of the Third Military District in Melbourne further advanced Ian’s musical career and in 1983 he was asked to join the Melbourne Staff Band where he played euphonium for nearly 20 years. His time with the MSB gave him the opportunity to undertake six overseas tours with this renowned group. Ian has taught many students in various youth bands where he found a need to compose and arrange music particularly for that age group. This led to further study in arranging for brass and he now writes mainly for the Black Dyke Trombone quartet and brass sextet. Many of his arrangements can be heard on various CD’s. In 2019 he moved, with his wife Edith, to Western Australia where he currently plays euphonium in the Perth Fortress Band. And is Now the current MD of Challenge Brass Band. Welcome Aboard Ian.

04.01.2022 It's with great sadness we must convey the news of the sad loss of one of the bands past members Garnett Buckley, who sadly passed away this past Tuesday. Garnett played Cornet with the band for several years, and served on the committee including a term as President. The band extends its deepest sympathies to Garnett's friends and family members at this difficult time.
