24.01.2022 Give me the house you think I should have said the client to the architect. And look what happened. This is the Crossman House. Commissioned by Ruth and Jules Crossman; Designed by Kevin Borland; and built in 1977. ... What an amazing privilege to see and experience this beauty today. The house is in pretty much its original state and now up fo sale. . . #crossmanhouse #glenirisarchitecture #gleniris #kevinborlandarchitect #classicseventies #residentialarchutecture See more

22.01.2022 Weve been in lock down for a few months now. Sure, the restrictions are slowly lifting, but the Virus itself is not going away. What is also clear is, whilst theres likely to be a COVID-19 cure, this will not be the last virus to hit our shores. So what does that mean for our built environment: to our workplace, our outdoors spaces, and our homes. Since our stay at home restrictions Ive been pondering the changes that are likely to occur to our homes. The following art...icle provides a small snapshot into the potential for change, but I think there is more we can do. Watch this space! See more

21.01.2022 Cycling super highway, 8.39 am Thursday. A beautiful morning for cycling and lovely to see so many people cycling to work! The Canning Street route has been temporarily rerouted past our studio (Rathdowne Street, Carlton North). That might explain councils removal of car spaces out the front of our studio.

The prestigious honor is awarded by the Royal British Institute of Architect (and approved personally by The Queen) to recognize a person or group who has "has a significant influence either directly or indirectly on the advancement of architecture. One of my favouries of David and his team is the Smithsonian National Museum of African American Arts and Culture, in Washington DC.

17.01.2022 Happy International Dog Day! May your day be spent with your faithful, protective and loyal buddy right by your side. (Easy to do these days if youre in Lockdown!)... Darling Pepper is here with me today while we all endure Stage 4 Lockdown here in Melbourne. We are thinking of you out there too: hoping that your home is safe and warm, with enough space to adapt for work-from-home (and juggling kids with online learning etc) and all the other things to keep us active and positive. Keep well, keep safe! Cathi

16.01.2022 ...The practical reasoning behind this is that poor design is difficult to reverse, and imposes high remedial costs on building owners and the wider community. Dr Kirsten Orr, Registrar, NSW Architects Registration Board https://mailsend.architects.nsw.gov.au//5R0lBuOeNVYMpJbLzw

14.01.2022 The greenest building is the one you dont knock over, says Tim Ross. I couldnt have said it any better myself. Tims show, "Designing a Legacy" premieres at Melbourne Design Week on 13 March.

11.01.2022 This post is for those in and around our Carlton North/ Fitzroy North community (Scotchmer St/ Park St precinct). A Planner, 3 x Urban Designers and a Traffic Engineer work together to improve a streetscape. And what is the result of this collaboration? Im interested to hear your comments on this proposal for a struggling retail strip, and one that was not wholly supportive of the new tram stops.

09.01.2022 Such very, very sad news: Christo (AK the artist that wraps) passed away 31/5/20. Christo was the man behind the wrapping of part of Sydney Harbour. He has wrapped many a monument around the world.... Christo has been a significant influence on many a contemporary artist. Vale Christo.

06.01.2022 Is you neighbour planning on building next to your home? There are processes that need to be followed to make sure that a neighbours home is protected. This article helps to clarify your rights as a neighbour and what steps need to be taken. "This means more than just being given a copy of a certificate of currency for the Builders contract works policy. Instead, the adjoining owner should ask to see not only the certificate of currency but also the policy schedule, to ens...ure that the endorsements name the address of the adjoining property, name the adjoining owner as at least a third party beneficiary under the policy, and refer to protection works" If you, or your neighbour, is planing on building on or near your property boundary, give us a call - we can help to explain what steps need to be followed to protect all parties.

06.01.2022 How appropriate: "For Our Country", designed by Melbourne practice Edition Office and Indigenous artist Daniel Boyd, has won the prestigious Canberra Medallion; the Cynthia Breheny Award for Small Project Architecture; the Pamille Berg Award for Art in Architecture; AND and the Robert Foster Award for Light in Architecture. Nice work - to those that designed it, and to those that champion this kind of commission. Thank you.

06.01.2022 Please, no more bad news. Sorry, I had to share this article though. Theres still much to change - lets hope its positive change.

04.01.2022 If you are interested in a home that celebrates place, this then this short video will inspire you. "The Cabbage Tree House", by Sydney architect Peter Stutchbury, was designed and built a few years ago now and was the recipient of Australian House of the Year 2018. This is a design for a family on a site in Sydneys gorgeous northern beaches. The design creates a wonderful response to site and enables the family, in their day-to-day habitation of their home, engage with... the nearby creek and landscape, the tracking of the sun, the seasons and birdhouses. What a glorious way to live! For more information on this house and the award: see also https://architectureau.com//2018-houses-awards-australian/

04.01.2022 Last Friday the first sod was turned for the construction of Australias largest community owned solar farm. Apparently this project is co-owned by around 500 local community members and is intended to produce enough power to supply around 250 Canberra homes.
