16.01.2022 Social commentator Prue MacSween says it’s time for Australia to legalise medical cannabis, adding there might even be an argument for personal recreational use of the drug, providing it’s regulated by a federal agency. We know that conventional medicines don't always work as effectively as medicinal cannabis for many people suffering from pain and all sorts of illnesses, Ms MacSween said. Time and again we see its remarkable effects, improving quality of life and in s...ome cases, eliminating side effects of an illness. The Government is all about gearing up manufacturing in this country. Medical cannabis production seems to be a no-brainer. Ms MacSween said desperate people in Australia were being forced to illegally buy and administer the drug to alleviate suffering. I know many people are concerned that cannabis is a "gateway" drug, but if it provides a pathway to a better quality of life for those who are suffering, I am ready for that gate to be opened, she said. : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsLe9tcdY6Y SHARE to help bring about change.

11.01.2022 NEW ZEALAND: CANNABIS REFERENDUM. Help needed! For those that believe in freedom of choice, the wise use of government resources and reducing societal harms, we need your help.... Support for the "Yes" vote in the upcoming Cannabis referendum is plummeting, due mainly to the ultra-right evangelicals very well funded 'Nope to Dope' campaign which is spreading fear mongering propaganda and outright lies. This is a David and Goliath scenario and the only rock we have is the truth. Social media doesn't reach everyone, especially older and rural dwellers. So NORML NZ has started a street level activist campaign to get people talking about the issues. We have made a series of roadside billboards and smaller signs covering a range of issues that will help voters make a more informed choice. We also have leaflets to distribute to that support and expand the billboard themes. Making and erecting billboards is hard yakka, we currently have a small team doing this but we'd like them up as soon as possible so more hands on deck would be great. We also need help with distributing the leaflets explaining the common sense behind this important law reform. Please share this post, we need this message out there. 09.01.2022 NT Police seize $2 million of cannabis smuggled via freight as traffickers adapt to #COVID19 restrictions. NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services - Alice Springs and Southern have charged three men for attempting to smuggle 132 kilograms of cannabis worth about $2 million into the #NorthernTerritory in packages labelled "stone monuments". "It'd be worth around $2 million."... Superintendent Hoskins said detectives became aware of a shipment of five barrels arriving in Darwin from Adelaide, which appeared suspicious as there was no receiving information attached. "When we do screening we look for particular things how stuff is packaged, how it's addressed, and that piqued our interest," Superintendent Hoskins said. "We basically waited to see who was going to pick up the package and monitored the package being delivered to a house in Humpty Doo. "We later executed a search warrant and found a barrel of 60 pounds of cannabis at that address." Superintendent Hoskins said police also seized 12 firearms and $40,000 cash during the initial raid in Darwin's rural area on September 15. Police arrested a 30-year-old man who was later charged with supplying commercial quantities of a schedule two drug. "Later we were aware that there was a second part of that consignment consisting of three barrels, so we then executed a search warrant at a freight company and seized the other three barrels," Superintendent Hoskins said. A large pile of cannabis with police officers standing cross-armed in the background. "Then the following day, the man attended to pick up the other three barrels and we arrested him and executed a search warrant at a Berry Springs address and seized another barrel." Police arrested and charged a third man during the raid on September 16. If found guilty, the three men face up to 14 years for supplying commercial quantities of a schedule two drug. NT Police say the cannabis was packed in one-pound cryovac bags. "A seizure of that nature will have certainly impacted the supply," Superintendent Hoskins said. She said drug traffickers were changing the way they attempted to smuggle drugs into the Northern Territory in response to COVID-19 travel restrictions and border closures relying more on freight and mail than before the outbreak of the #pandemic. : https://www.abc.net.au//nt-drug-bust-cannabis-sei/12725494 SHARE to help bring about change.

05.01.2022 Australian lawmakers say theyve noticed little change since cannabis use was legalised in Canberra, and they have some advice for New Zealand as voters prepare to cast their ballots in the referendum. The legislation, signed off in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory eight months ago, aimed to treat cannabis as a health issue rather than a criminal one. It allows those over 18 to possess 50g of dried cannabis and to grow two plants. The selling and trafficking of the dr...ug, as well as the use of a hydroponic setup to grow the plant, is still banned. New laws have also been introduced to make it illegal to smoke cannabis in public and around children. Health Minister and Labor MP for Australian Capital Territory Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA said she hasnt noticed a difference. But, she said de-stigmatising cannabis use would help people seek help if their use of the drug was harmful. Depending on the model that New Zealand is going to choose, really look at the evidence that sits behind that. But, also, really think about the fact that we really want to take a harm-minimisation approach. She said she hadnt seen an increase in demand from people wanting support, and said there was enough support services in place. Her colleague, Michael Pettersson MLA, Australian Labor Party MP for Yerrabi, echoed her sentiments. Nothings really changed in the ACT, he said. He said police time was best used to go after organised criminal gangs rather than individual recreational or medicinal cannabis users. We know cannabis addiction destroys lives and when it infiltrates local communities such as ours, it can have a devastating impact, Detective Inspector Mat Kelly said. By targeting who we allege are key players in local drug production and supply, we are significantly disrupting the supply chain and preventing large quantities of cannabis from reaching our community. Police would like to thank the community for the assistance with this investigation and continue to encourage anyone with information about drug supply activity to report it. : https://mypolice.qld.gov.au//2020/11/18/drug-charges-yowah/ SHARE to help bring about change.
