25.01.2022 A very big thank you to Gordon Matthews and the amazing support of The Lions Club in the Bega Valley

25.01.2022 CCA are preparing for a bushfire recovery program in and around Eden on the South Coast of NSW. Watch the video and reflect on the fact that this is 6 months after the fires. The Bush is quiet, empty and lacking life. You can only imagine what it was like during the fires! #bushfires #volunteering #communities

25.01.2022 BEFORE & AFTER. Satellite images show the before and after of the 2019-20 bushfire season in NSW. The fires burnt an estimated 5.4 million hectares in NSW alone and destroyed over 2400 homes. Along the south coast, you can see all of the lush green turn to shades of brown as hundreds of thousands of hectares of land and homes are destroyed. Next month when CCA visits, we will be bringing a team of skilled volunteers and team up with a few organisations to really make the mos...t of it. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep updated on our south coast project. #bushfirerecovery Image: ScienceAlert.com

24.01.2022 Our work continues on this week in Bega Valley including helping several residents in Kiah who haven't had running water for months since the summer fires. Thanks to the organisations that have supported our program including Lions Australia Lions District 201N2. More updates on our progress to come!... #bushfirerecovery

24.01.2022 Connecting Communities Australia and local volunteers have been helping bushfire-affected residents still without running water around Towamba, Kiah and Wonboyn What recovery projects need help in your area?

24.01.2022 Gary from Bega Valley reached out to us for help and was met with our awesome CCA volunteers Nick and the guys who helped fix a shed and other works around the property. Thanks Gary for your shoutout and support, and happy you got the help needed! #bushfirerecovery

23.01.2022 Happy National Agriculture Day. This year has been tough on our farmers and we would like to take this moment to recognise all the valuable work they do and the hardships they've had to face this year. Let's keep supporting them. #AgDayAU

22.01.2022 "Around the 3rd of January a really big southerly came through and pushed the fire through up nearly into Eden and really really quickly. There wasn’t a lot of warning." Liz Scott from Headspace took us to small communities south of Eden that suffered significant damage from the fires. Rural and remote communities struggle with the effects of a changing climate and its impact on mental health. It is our hope in building connections with these communities that they receive not only physical help but vital mental support as well.

22.01.2022 This week I had the great pleasure of talking to Cassandra from a property near Julia Creek in the McKinlay Shire of NW Queensland. We discuss the challenges of home schooling combined with running a beef cattle station in a Covid-19 world. Last year CCA took a volunteer team to McKinlay Shire to support farmers impacted by the floods in February 2019. - https://mailchi.mp//connect-with-old-and-new-friends-on-cc

21.01.2022 What does resilience look like? For these Bega Valley residents, recovery from the devastating fires 12 months on continues and yet at the end of the day, they are still smiling, still pushing on. A very big thank you to the hugely talented Tania Verbeeck for making this outstanding video and to the Bega Valley residents who shared their stories and experiences with us.... This video is an exerpt of a longer video to come, stay tuned.

20.01.2022 A few months after the bushfires in Eden and there are pops of green as the land regenerates and recovers. Amazing to see.

20.01.2022 Who's Kevin and Carol? A couple of emus who are permanent residents in a small town called Yaraka, west of Rockhampton QLD, where CCA is hoping to rebuild community facilities later on in the year. These two have been banned from Yaraka Hotel for bad behaviour. Notably, going into the dining room, eating all the food and getting behind the bar. Quite an emusing introduction to the locals..

20.01.2022 Playground shade cloth has gone up and BBQ area is complete at Towamba Public School. Kids are excited!!

18.01.2022 National Volunteer Week is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the amazing volunteers who have supported the work of Connecting Communities Australia. Hundred's of volunteers have supported our programs across rural and remote communities. You are all amazing people. Thank you!

17.01.2022 Did You Know People living in rural communities report higher life satisfaction but of those struggling with mental health, sadly, suicide rates are 50% higher in rural areas than in major cities. With a changing climate, rural communities face more hardship than ever before.... It is our hope that the work we do, most importantly, provides friendships and lasting connections. At the end of the day, it's about people helping people. Make your donation today to support Connecting Communities Australia: https://bit.ly/3ddzSNn #wmhd2020 #wmhd

16.01.2022 We believe Australia is stronger, fairer and more equal when communities are connected. This week is NAIDOC week. Celebrated by not only Indigenous communities, but Australians from all walks of life, NAIDOC week is about supporting and recognising local Aborigines and Torres Strait Islander communities and their history, culture and achievements.... COVID-19 has impacted our indigenous programs this year but watch this space as we work on bringing them back next year. Connect with your local NAIDOC community event here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/naidoc-week-events

16.01.2022 One year on from the Black Summer bushfires, the individuals and families of bushfire stricken communities are still picking up the pieces and trying to rebuild their lives. Connecting with the communities during our October 2020 relief program, we were amazed by how strong and resilient these people are. Here are some of their stories.

15.01.2022 Stunning photo taken by one of our volunteers at the South Coast of NSW during our Bega Valley program last year. You can see why it's called the Sapphire Coast! #bushfirerecovery

15.01.2022 These smaller communities in Bega Valley were not forgotten... During our two week bushfire recovery program there, we delivered hay for local residents and their livestock to keep them healthy and happy. Happy cows (and horses), happy farmer!

14.01.2022 What's Bega well known for? Apart from its cheese Bega Valley is also known as The Sapphire Coast for its location on the South Eastern border of NSW. Dotted with towns and villages, many areas were severely devastated by fires earlier this year. Read more about Glenn's visit to the area a few months ago: https://bit.ly/2Hv9SRH... We look forward to heading down there in a couple of weeks. : ourlocal.nsw.gov.au

14.01.2022 2020 was a particularly tough year for not-for-profits. At a time when people needed help the most, a global pandemic halted all efforts. Thankfully, we were still able to complete some projects and this year, we look forward to recommencing planned programs. Find out more below.

14.01.2022 Beautiful Bega Valley. Hills in the distance showing a hairline of burnt trees. Only a few more weeks before we head down with our bushfire recovery volunteers. Follow us to keep up to date : @rudi_rolls... #bushfirerecovery

13.01.2022 A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped out in Bega Valley the past week. On top of our other projects, we assisted a family who lost their house, removed barbed wire that was a hazard for local wildlife and fencing for a farmer in the area. Thanks to the Mayor of Bega Valley Shire Council Russell Fitzpatrick for visiting us. We had a great community BBQ and connected with the locals.... Bring on week 2! #bushfirerecovery

11.01.2022 I recently had the great pleasure of talking to Cassandra from a property near Julia Creek in the McKinlay Shire of NW Queensland. Cassandra and Bill run beef cattle on their property. Last year I spent some time on their property with volunteers helping them with their recovery from the February 2019 floods. Unfortunately there has been very little rain in the summer months and they are back in drought. In the interview Cassandra and I talk about the impact of Covid-19 on them and the pleasure and pain of home schooling. The sense I got was that Covid-19 has only had a small impact on rural communities and that to successful home school your children you have to be highly organised, commit time but above all else have fun doing it. I hope you enjoy this insight into their lives in rural Queensland.

10.01.2022 We are all about delivering projects for rural and regional communities around Australia. We look for tangible, sustainable improvements to communities that include both physical help and mental support that comes with the connections we make. Subscribe to our newsletter to keep updated with our projects and how you can get involved: https://bit.ly/3jD0etT ... #bushfirerecovery

09.01.2022 This Spring is one of the hottest we've had in Australia and temperatures soared on the weekend in NSW as fire brigades were on high alert. You can prepare your property to reduce bushfire risk and lessen the pressure on our firies with the following NSW RFS tips: 1. Clean your gutters of leaves and twigs... 2. Install metal gutter guards 3. Enclose the areas under the house 4. Cut back trees and shrubs overhanging buildings 5. Clean up fallen leaves, twigs and debris around the property Check the NSW RFS page for more plan and preparation details: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare

08.01.2022 Many bushfire affected communities in southern NSW still need our help. Community Halls are damaged or destroyed, fences, sheds and outbuildings damaged. CCA needs your help to enable our volunteers to help these communities. For more info: https://connectingcommunitiesaustralia.com.au/begaappeal/

08.01.2022 September = Spring But also the start of the bushfire season for many parts of NSW including Bega Valley. Many families and businesses across the region are still trying to recover and regenerate from the impacts of the last bushfires which becomes ever so important as we approach the warmer season. Connecting Communities Australia are in the midst of planning and preparing for our trip down to Bega Valley next month with a team of volunteers to help restore and repair c...ommunity infrastructure and assist local families. Keep an eye on this space! For more info on fire burning restrictions for the regions below, check the NSW RFS page: https://bit.ly/3gOMSsZ

08.01.2022 Plenty of rainfall from the last few weeks in Bega Valley has helped fill the lakes, opening to the ocean. Receiving nearly half of it's annual rainfall in a couple of weeks however is challenging for people living in temporary accommodation like tents, pods and caravans following the bushfires. Connecting Communities Australia is looking to bring a team of skilled volunteers, engineers and mechanics next month to the area to help rebuild and repair fences, water lines, sanitation facilities, as well as community infrastructure so that livelihoods and adequate living conditions can recover.

07.01.2022 The power of communities connected. Our recent volunteer work in Towamba, Bega Valley with the help of local communities is featured as a recovery story by the National Bushfire Recovery Agency. Great work by our volunteers and everybody involved.... Read the full article here: https://www.bushfirerecovery.gov.au/stori/volunteers-rescue #bushfirerecovery

07.01.2022 As we travelled through the Bega Valley Shire, it was clear the fire had devastated communities, tearing through homes, halls, sheds, outbuildings. Click below for our recap of the trip + an interview of Liz from HeadSpace who shares with us some of the impacts on the local community:

07.01.2022 This year we're aiming for another program down the South Coast of NSW to give further assistance to these communities. This area is still struggling to get back on its feet after last year's bushfires and we're ready to buckle up and give a hand. Read the article on SMH here: http://bit.ly/3seAitc

06.01.2022 "Your greatness is not what you have, but in what you give." - Alice Hocker. This Saturday is International Day of Charity and it's a chance to commemorate the value in giving. More than ever before, every act of kindness is needed to foster our connections and enhance our sense of community. Help us celebrate International Day of Charity and share this post to show your support.

05.01.2022 In 2019 Connecting Communities Australia worked on 4 projects with the RACQ Foundation supporting Qld communities impacted by a changing climate. In National Volunteer Week Id like to acknowledge the amazing volunteers on those programs

05.01.2022 A great way to support regional businesses. Buy a gift for Mother’s Day.

04.01.2022 I’d like to acknowledge the outstanding support from HUBBED and its CEO David McLean. On Monday CCA will be relocating it’s office with HUBBED to East Balmain. We are looking forward to reaching out together to more rural and remote communities in 2020/21.

03.01.2022 To mitigate flooding, lakes and estuaries in the Bega Valley often need to be manually opened out to sea. Nowadays we use bulldozers to get the job done but amazingly, this is something Indigenous people have practiced for thousands of years.

02.01.2022 Wonderful support with the Bega community for this CCA project taking place from 5th to 16th Oct. We look forward to heading down there next week. Stay connected for our recovery updates in Bega Valley.

02.01.2022 Great to be on the road again down in Eden. Talking to Headspace and Council today about a Bushfire Recovery Program. Great to see the rain!

02.01.2022 Big thank you to Bega Valley Shire Council for their support. A great two weeks where all the volunteers worked so hard to help these communities get back on their feet. Let’s hope this summer is a good one.... #bushfirerecovery

01.01.2022 How do you prevent soil erosion? By planting trees! We planted over 90 trees in Kiah along the riverbank to protect the soil, binding them to the roots of trees to help with the sloping land. Thanks to these awesome volunteers who worked hard to help us out.... #bushfirerecovery See more

01.01.2022 "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." - Helen Keller. Flashback to last year when we helped the community brighten up Goodooga Central School. Goodooga is a town in Northern NSW 20km from the NSW/QLD border! Check out the before and after
