18.01.2022 Have you downloaded the COVIDSafe app? Our new Council encourages all residents of the Cassowary Coast to play their part in keeping our community safe and heal...thy, by continuing our great work in staying home and social distancing. Now that we approach the first round of relaxed restrictions - the Prime Minister and National Cabinet have asked us to help by downloading the COVIDSafe app. What can you do from tomorrow (Saturday)? Go for a drive (including teaching a learner driver from your household) Ride a motorbike Have a picnic in a park or public space that remains open Shop for non-essential items at a place permitted to remain open Boating / Fishing / Jet Skiing But there are three conditions: 1 You must practice social distancing and stay 1.5m from others and hygiene must be maintained; 2 You must only be joined by the people who usually live with you, or one other person who doesn't live with you; 3 You must stay within 50km of your home. 18.01.2022 To all the wonderful customers of Innisfail Chemex. We have had a very unusual couple of months and everything has been very crazy in the shop and in all of our... day to day lives. Wayne, Lynden and Darren would like to say "thank you" to every one of you who have supported our local business in the past and over this difficult time. Thank you mostly for your patience with our "hard to get and back-ordered" stock and our sometimes stress related grumpy service. We hope that for all of us the worst is over and we all remain safe and healthy. We are still open, we are still delivering to the main town area free of charge and to Tully and the beaches once a fortnight, and our stock is slowly getting back to normal. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we look forward to seeing you all soon.
18.01.2022 Thank you for this review Jennifer Downs we are living and learning together ! Jennifer Downs to Yoga with Susan Kelly Online 13 hrs ago I'm a huge suppor...ter of Women in Business. I have admiration for Women who work hard at their business, morphing as needed and moving, changing and growing with the times. I don't think in all my years of supporting and mentoring Women, have I ever seen anyone work harder than Susan Kelly in re-inventing her business, work harder at delivering a terrific product to her clients, and committing to supporting them in really difficult times. She doesn't know I'm writing this, but if you can continue to support her amazing Yoga Online programs, please do. (Personally I love the freedom and flexibility and yet personal touch each program delivers) and can you also recommend Susan Kelly Online Yoga to a friend? We have an incredible Yoga teacher in Susan, right here in Mission Beach. And her online programs have the potential to reach out to so many in this world. Let's keep this going! Jen Downs

13.01.2022 CASSOWARY COAST FACILITIES TO REOPEN AS RESTRICTIONS EASED ACROSS THE STATE Some Council facilities will reopen from this weekend under strict social distanci...ng and hygiene measures. Libraries and Customer Service centres in Cardwell, Tully and Innisfail to reopen from Monday 18 May 2020. Swimming Pools across the region to remain closed until 1 August 2020. Under stage one of the State Government’s coronavirus road map, some Council facilities will reopen from this weekend under strict social distancing and hygiene measures. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND LIBRARIES Libraries in Cardwell, Tully and Innisfail will reopen Monday 18 May 2020, with reduced services. Patrons are asked to practise social distancing and are advised a restricted number of people will be allowed in libraries at any one time. For the time being there will be no access to shared computers and library programs such as baby bounce will remain online. Wongaling Beach Library will remain closed until further notice to facilitate stage one of the Wongaling Beach Library upgrade project. The Cassowary Coast Libraries e-library service is available online 24/7 with access to a huge range of e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines and movies. Customer Service centres in Cardwell, Tully and Innisfail will reopen Monday 18 May 2020. Customers are asked to practise social distancing and are advised a restricted number of people will be allowed in side service centres at any one time. FACILITIES Swimming Pools In-line with normal seasonal operations Council Public Pools are scheduled to close 1 June to 31 July 2020. To re-open the pools with limited access to the public under the guidelines from Queensland Health ‘Stage 1, Easing of Restrictions’ is un-feasible both economically and practically for our pool operators. Under the ‘Stage 1, Easing of Restrictions’, Council would be required to limit access to the pool to 10 people at any one time, one person per lane and no spectators. However, Council’s requirements for paid lifeguards would still be required a minimum of two staff members at any given time. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions Capital Works and Annual maintenance programs have been brought forward and are currently been undertaken as per below: Memorial Baths Innisfail kids pool and slide pool is currently drained while minor maintenance works are carried out. The heated pool is also currently drained to facilitate the installation of permanent entry stairs. In addition programmed works for minor maintenance to grounds and facilities are currently underway. As such the pool is scheduled to reopen 1 August 2020. Mission Beach Aquatic Centre’s current Management Agreement expired and terminated on 10 May 2020. Following COVID -19 restrictions being lifted, Council is scheduled to go to tender for the Management Contract Services the week commencing 18 May 2020. Subject to the successful tender, the pool is scheduled to reopen 1 August 2020. In addition to this, minor maintenance to grounds and facilities are currently being undertaken. While the pool opened last winter, this was on a trial basis, with no commitment that this would take place on an ongoing basis. During this trial last winter there was on average 75 users per day. Feedback from pool management was that the majority of those 75 users were travelling ‘grey nomads’ - who are not in the region this winter due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. To operate the Mission Beach pool through June and July would cost an additional $60,000 to ratepayers, with Council required to limit access to the pool to 10 people at any one time. Tully Aquatic Centre ‘Mission to Swim’ is currently undergoing maintenance and upgrades to the filtration system. In addition programmed works for minor maintenance to grounds and facilities are currently underway. As such the pool is scheduled to reopen 1 August 2020. Cardwell Aquatic Centre is currently undergoing upgrades including re-tiling and other aesthetic improvements. In addition programmed works for minor maintenance to grounds and facilities are currently underway. As such the pool is scheduled to reopen 1 August 2020. Mission Beach Splash Pad regular operations to re-commence from 16 May 2020. Beaches stinger nets are in place at Etty Bay, Kurrimine Beach, North and South Mission Beach. These will remain in place until the end of stinger season which changes every year based on advice of Surf Life Saving North Queensland. Public Amenities Council will be continue to review public toilet closures in-line with guidelines from Queensland Government. A focus on activation of sporting grounds, public open spaces and playgrounds to be a priority. Council will engage with community groups to establish operations and service levels
