12.01.2022 Australian dental practitioners have the highest infection control standards in the world. At City Central Dental, along with our regular infection control measures, we are taking extra precautions to ensure the lowest risk of viral exposure. Our waiting room has been altered to adhere to social distancing.... Hand sanitiser is readily available All non-clinical surfaces are being disinfected regularly throughout the day, including door handles, desks, waiting room chairs and pens. All patients are required to rinse with an anti-viral mouthrinse at the start of their appointment Most dental treatments will be required to be performed under ‘rubber dam’ to control aerosolised droplets Additionally we ask anyone who is exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms or has come into contact with any confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 to refrain from attending for 14 days or until cleared of suspicion. #dental #adelaidedentist See more

07.01.2022 NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO BOOK YOUR CHILD’S FIRST DENTAL VISIT! Did you know that your child’s first dental visit should occur between the ages of 18months-2 years? This is for several reasons:... To introduce and familiarise your child with the dental setting To ensure normal dental development for their age To identify any signs of early childhood decay and associated risk factors To reduce likelihood of needing a GA or sedation for any treatment needs down the track as your child will be comfortable and desensitised to the dentist To cement good oral health and hygiene habits right from the start! , . 06.01.2022 Here’s a great post from @supersimplescientist about water fluoridation and why as dentists we are all about fluoride for protecting those precious teeth! Check their page out to breakdown and simplify medical jargon #Repost with @make_repost My first follower request what’s the deal with water fluoridation? Tooth decays occurs when acids attack the surface of the tooth. Acid can come from many sources including saliva, stomach acid, drinks (coffee, Coca Cola) and foods... (vinegar, tomato, etc). Fluoride helps protect against tooth decay and repairs damage. In Australia, the government has been adding fluoride to our drinking water for decades to improve public health outcomes at a concentration ranging from 0.6-1.1mg/L. THE BENEFITS Swipe to see the benefits. This shows that the average number of decayed teeth has decreased from almost 5 teeth per individual in 1977 to less than 1 decayed tooth per individual in 2007. THE DATA The following are NOT associated with Australian practice of fluoridation: Dental fluorosis (discolouration)* Cancers such as osteosarcoma* Decreased cognitive function and IQ* Negative kidney health outcomes Hip fractures and osteoporosis The NHMRC states current Australian practice does not impact thyroid health but there’s solid evidence that any increase in fluroride can lead to hypothyroidism WHAT ABOUT MEDICAL CONSENT? The WHO states that universal access to fluoride for dental health is a part of the basic human right to health. Taking into consideration the net benefit of water fluoridation on equity and beneficence, the pros definitely stack up but I acknowledge that there is no opted-in consent which is technically needed for medical treatments, and that’s exactly what fluoridation is. However, governments need to balance the rights of the individual with the need to protect the broader public interest and public safety and health Asterisks = studies have shown that increasing levels (>2.0mg/L) can lead to said outcomes
01.01.2022 Researchers say they've found evidence that ancient human relatives used toothpicks. Cavemen may not have brushed their teeth but they did practice some form of oral hygiene. How's your oral hygiene going? https://newatlas.com/cavemen-toothpicks-oral-hygiene/47131/
