18.01.2022 Experiencing eye strain or headaches? If you are working from home or your children are schooling from home you should practice good visual hygiene. Remember the 20/20 vision rule: Rest your eyes every 20 minutes by looking at something 20 feet away, for 20 seconds. Excessive use of mobile phones and digital devices can result in eyestrain. If you don't require prescription spectacles for screen use, you can still benefit from using the latest blue-light blocking lenses which provide additional protection. We have a range of non-prescription screen eye protectors for both children and adults which can help reduce your eye strain. Please give us a call on 8677 5483 or email the practice for further information.

13.01.2022 Computer Vision Syndrome; There has been an explosion of electronic media in recent times and rather than just reading and writing we are now spending significa...ntly more time looking at electronically produced information. All this means that we are spending much more time concentrating at near distance in a sustained way over extended periods of time. This is especially true in the younger generation and raises serious concerns for developing eyes and visual systems. 09.01.2022 VISION THERAPY; How could vision therapy help my child to read and write? Good vision, efficient tracking eye movements and accurate interpretation of what is ...read are all important if a child is to read well. If any of these skills are not appropriately developed, they can hold a child back from reading as well as they could. A Behavioural Optometrist will identify which skills are underdeveloped for a child's age and provided vision therapy to help develop them. 04.01.2022 The Benefits of Wearing Contact Lenses Contact lenses are a great alternative to spectacles, and for many people, they are the preferred vision option. As a result of improvements in technology almost any vision problem can be corrected with contact lenses.... There have been enormous advances made in contact lens material and design, including the use of improved silicone hydrogel lens materials, advances in daily disposables for presbyopia and soft lenses that correct both astigmatism and presbyopia. The latest contact lenses are comfortable and convenient to use. They are easy to adapt to, can correct most vision problems and are able to be worn from a young age. Many reasons why more than 680,000 Australians aged between 15 and 64 years wear contact lenses. There are many other benefits to wearing contact lenses, including: Full Range of Vision Contact lenses provide you with a full range of vision, with no frames to obstruct your vision, particularly important when driving a car. 04.01.2022 How to Stop your Spectacles Fogging Up 17 AUG 2020 Wearing a mask is a way of life for many Australians but, for those who wear spectacles, a new problem has emerged out of Covid 19 glasses fogging up.... When the New York Times asked readers for their questions about Covid 19, one of the most common was, how do I solve the fogging problem? Fogging of the glasses has always been a problem for health care workers, one which now that it is in the public domain is causing many people a great deal of consternation. The Fogging Problem Fogging occurs when the warm air that we breathe out comes into contact with the cool surface of our spectacle lens and, as a result, forms condensation. Whatever mask you wear, whether it is a cloth, homemade or a surgical mask, your glasses will more often than not, fog up. It is so annoying that many people give up wearing a mask altogether. 02.01.2022 SOME SYMPTOMS OF POOR VISION ... - Headaches; Especially across the brow or in the temples and sometimes at the back of the head, these can develop after sitti...ng at close work tasks like computers, smart phones or reading for extended periods. - Blurred or double vision; When two objects are seen or when the edges appear poorly defined. This may happen when spending time reading, using a phone or on a computer. It may also occur when looking up from doing close work. - Poor or erratic performance; Losing your place when reading, rereading words or lines, difficulty understanding or remembering what you have read or reading very slowly are all examples of poor performance. When outdoors misjudging ball catching, over or under throwing, tripping over and trouble hitting the ball are also examples of poor performance. - Discomfort and fatigue; Finishing a day at school or work and being excessively tired may be a sign of poor visual function. - Supression; When the brain ignores information coming from one eye to prevent seeing double. 01.01.2022 In Australia, 90% of vision loss is preventable or treatable if detected early. Loving your eyes can be as simple as getting an eye test, but what other things ...can you do in your every day to help keep your eyes happy and healthy? Wearing sunglasses and a hat outside will protect you from harmful UV rays. Be stylish and safe. Wear eye protection when you're doing potentially dangerous work - home DIY, contact sports, school science experiments all need eye protection. Stay active and eat well - no matter what exercise and health looks and feels like to you, think of your health as an all body experience. Quit smoking (or don't start!) - your body starts to heal from smoking damage as quickly as an hour after you stop. Get your eyes checked - even small things like eye strain, dry eyes or fuzzy vision can be a marker for something more serious.
