Turns out her mum actually went to school there! We are taking bookings for 2021 and have several schools booked in all the way to October! Contact us and book your school in now! #communityeducation #empowerment #volunteering

22.01.2022 This is Georgina one of our Solicitors at CCLSWA. I asked her why she wanted to become a lawyer and she said I wanted to become a lawyer for the typical young and idealistic reason of helping people. It was a long and curvy road to get to that point, as I worked as a corporate lawyer for a number of years after law school. During that time, however, I was always involved in probono work with various community legal centres. This experience eventually led me to CCLSWA. She also told us she "enjoys supervising and working with our law student volunteers and PLT students, who are so committed and passionate about their tasks, and being part of a team of lawyers and staff so dedicated to consumer advocacy.

07.01.2022 Yesterday ASIC Connect released their much-anticipated report into the Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) sector. The report told us that: In the 201819 financial year, over 1.1 million transactions incurred multiple missed payment fees, which is nearly half of all transactions that incurred missed payment fees. ... Over the three-year period to June 2019, missed payment fees represented up to 15% of total revenue. In the same period, missed payment fees represented up to 44% of consumer revenue. More shocking still, in the last 12 months, in order to make their buy now pay later payments on time: 20% of consumers surveyed said they cut back on or went without essentials (e.g. meals ); and 15% of consumers surveyed said they had taken out an additional loan. We say BNPL should be regulated like other credit products. You can read the full report, link in the comments

01.01.2022 On Friday we took part in the Consumers Federation of Australia event that was originally scheduled to happen in February, in Sydney! We were nominated for an award for our Consumer Protection WA Project. Like many things these days, it moved online . Quite appropriate for this event as the theme was the sustainable consumer. Think of all that carbon saved! We got an honorary mention at the event which was amazing with so many fantastic campaigns showcased. Amazing cam...paigns from CHOICE, Consumer Action Law Centre, UNSW, Energy Consumers Australia, Public Interest Advocacy Centre & The Consumer Policy Research Centre were showcased Congratulation to the Quad Bike Performance Project run by Raphael Grzebieta from the UNSW Transport and Road Safety - TARS Research Centre, UNSW on their winning campaign to get roll bars mandatorily fitted on quad bikes.
