17.01.2022 The Desert Song will be performed by a Torres Strait youth singer Karla Joy Adidi at tonight's concert. Its lyrics were written by indigenous author Beryl Webber, music by our concert MC Ken Pang. Here's the words from Beryl Webber, indigenous author renowned for her award-winning children's picture book Big Fella Rain: "My name is Beryl Webber I am an indigenous author. My family are Gunggari from south west Queensland. My first children’s picture book published by Magabela... is called Big Fella Rain. It is about the wet season. My second children’s picture book is called Desert Song and that will be self-published hopefully published by Christmas. I have included the song with the picture book as a link so that children can download the music score and can play on a recorder piano or guitar. My passion is early education in remote areas as that is where I grew up. All proceeds from the picture book go to remote area education. My lovely friend Karla Adidi from the Torres Strait will sing the song. She is a young performer that has been performing at her school for the past few years and Ken Pang is the composer, he has composed the notes for the music score. I hope you enjoy Desert Song as it is about the desert and when people go out in the desert and they come back people will ask did the desert speak to you so there is a clue in the song by what they mean by that expression so please enjoy. Thank you." See more
