24.01.2022 Wow! Victorian clinics done and dusted. Thanks to everyone who came along. If you live in Victoria but you haven’t heard from us yet, send us a message, e-mail or call us to see how you can still take part. South Australia...you're up next in November!

24.01.2022 A huge thank you to all our wonderful participants in Queensland who came along to have their free CDAH health check! We were delighted to welcome 364 participants, who attended at clinic sites across the state. We finished at our last site, Toowoomba, in August.

23.01.2022 More good news about shacking up and having babies! Dr Kylie Smith looked at how getting married or moving into a de facto relationship and becoming a parent might affect people's diets. She reported in her paper published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that men and women that became parents were less likely to skip breakfast. Men that became partnered, but not women, were also less likely to skip breakfast. Were these men lucky enough to have their partners making their breakfast? We can't be sure...but our previous research has shown that eating breakfast is associated with better heart health, so it's good news for these men.

21.01.2022 Getting set up in Elizabeth East ready for our first clinic this Friday. We'll be at the Salvation Army till Monday 13th November. We still have a few appointments left!

18.01.2022 This one is hot off the press! PhD student Duc Du has published work showing that there aren't that many benefits for cardiovascular and metabolic health of drinking alcohol once we take into account all of the other characteristics associated with drinking moderate amounts of alcohol. These are things like physical activity and a good diet. In fact, we could see worse blood pressure values in some groups of drinkers. Certainly food (or maybe drink) for thought!

17.01.2022 Research fellow Dr Kylie Smith recently published this study looking at how common health behaviours (e.g. eating breakfast, limiting TV viewing and doing enough steps per day) were associated with weight gain in the CDAH study. The study was published in BMC Public Health and we found that people who adopted or maintained these healthier behaviours has less weight gain than those that had less healthy behaviours. Encouraging young adults to meet these simple guidelines may reduce weight gain.

17.01.2022 One of the unique aspects of CDAH is that our participants live all around Australia. This means we can look at changes in where people live and how that might affect their health. In this study by Kira Patterson, we examined how living in a rural or urban area over your lifetime might be associated with overweight and obesity. The study was recently published in Annals of Epidemiology and Kira found that people that lived in rural areas for a longer time were more likely to be overweight or obese. The causes of this are likely to be complex including aspects of the food and built environment in rural areas, as well as health behaviours of people that live in these areas.

17.01.2022 Thanks to all our wonderful SA participants who gave up their time to have a health check! Today was our last day in South Australia. We had some heartwarming moments with our participants. Our dedicated couple Tony and Naomi came along together and encouraged each other! And Janelle was measured by her nephew, who turned out to be one of our newly recruited clinic staff!

08.01.2022 Thank you to all our wonderful Victorian participants who have given up their time to attend our Ringwood clinic since last Wednesday! Here are some of our dedicated clinic staff outside the Central Ringwood Community Centre, ready to welcome you this week. Next we'll be at Cranbourne from 20 to 22 August.

08.01.2022 PhD student Brooklyn Fraser published this study that used data from the childhood and adult studies in CDAH. In the paper published in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, she reported that people's muscular strength and power in childhood were closely linked to the same measures in adulthood. Perhaps more evidence of 'show me the boy at 7 and I'll give you the (wo)man'?

A huge thank you to all 437 participants who gave up their time to contribute to our research and undergo a health check.
