16.01.2022 A reminder all of our General Meeting tonight at the CDCFF office 2/129 Victoria St at 5pm. Come along and see what we're all about, everyone's welcome.

11.01.2022 Harry and Stephanie Berger of the Cardwell Foreshore Sub-Committee met with Shannon Paskins, the recently appointed CCRC Coordinator Parks, Open Space and Natural Environment, and discussed at great length his new plans for the future management of the gardens and infrastructure along the Cardwell Foreshore. Hopefully this very productive relationship will continue well into the future.

07.01.2022 Put Sunday 21 August in your diary for a public meeting here in Cardwell. To be held in association with Griffith University, this community forum will discuss: > the future of Cardwell > Cardwell's SAP (Strategic Action Plan), and > the future of the CDCFF who are the custodians of the SAP.... OFFICIAL INVITATION TO PUBLIC MEETING Your involvement in planning Cardwell's future ... To all existing and previous CDCFF members, kindred organisations and residents of Cardwell: It is of utmost importance to community-minded residents that you attend the Community Forum on Sunday 21st August 2016 [from 8.45am to 4.00pm] at the Cardwell Country Club to discuss/evaluate the future direction for Cardwell and districts from our communities' expectations, and to have your input. Professor Darryl Low Choy from Griffith University will be the presenter. He commenced his research post-cyclone Yasi regarding coastal communities’ resilience. His final report from Griffith University will be delivered in December 2016 to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council and other relevant authorities. This Forum will provide the Cardwell community with a golden opportunity to convey their aspirations and provide input for the future direction of our community. We will be provided with a snapshot of where our community stands at the present. We should also bear in mind the imminent sale of Port Hinchinbrook, under the new name of Hinchinbrook Harbour, and the obvious benefits that will flow into our community. Food will be provided. For catering purposes please RSVP prior to Monday 15th August 2016. Email [email protected] or phone Harry Berger on 07 4066 8422 or 0408 776 104. Looking forward to your participation. Note: A community that works together with a plan achieves more. 07.01.2022 HQ PLANTATIONS ‘TUNED IN’ AFTER ‘TUNE UP’ I'm pleased to see progress being made to re-establish commercial forestry activities on land in the Herbert River dis...trict, Cardwell and Kennedy areas. I am encouraged by advice from HQ Plantations that it has completed the re-establishment of 679 hectares of land in the last few months, with a further 1,300 hectares being prepared for re-planting in 2016. HQ Plantations has already completed the re-establishment of about 1,600 hectares of forestry land destroyed by Cyclone Yasi in 2011, so it appears progress in being made. It’s also good to see HQ Plantations putting effort into its genetics program to re-establish trees that are more resistant to wind, so hopefully we don’t see so much damage and such a slow recovery in the future. I gave HQ Plantations ‘a bit of a tune up’ in January, over concerns in the local community that there was a lack of commitment from the company to continue commercial forestry in the Hinchinbrook electorate. I told HQ Plantations in no uncertain terms that if they were not going to utilise the land for commercial forestry, they should surrender the licence and make it available for use for other productive industries. I inspected some holdings they had already re-planted and since then they have re-planted more, so it spears they are now getting on with the job and they are committed to their commercial operations in this area. Mr Cripps said he also told HQ Plantations to communicate more effectively with the local community about their activities and welcomed the proposal to hold a field day later in the year to showcase re-establishment plans. This is a step in the right direction to ensure the wider community are aware of what is going on, because commercial forestry has a significant footprint in the Cardwell and Kennedy areas and in the Herbert River district. I appreciate HQ Plantations taking on board the concerns I raised with them in January on behalf of the local community and for being more tuned in to the need to communicate with relevant stakeholders.
