25.01.2022 And THE SHOW MUST GO ON! It is with great regret that we are writing to let you know that we have postponed the Castlemaine Documentary Film Festival due to the difficult and unpredictable circumstances surrounding the Coronavirus. We are both delighted to have the privilege of taking over the reins of such a wonderful event and have been working on an exciting new program and event which was scheduled for 17-19th of July 2020.... Now with the Coronavirus pandemic impacting on social gatherings we wanted you to know of our change of plans - though we are sure it will come as little surprise. As some of you may know we had already partnered with the Theatre Royal to bring you the first two films of our on-going monthly C-Doc pop up screenings both well-attended and hugely enjoyable events. We had planned to showcase another wonderful film The Show Must Go On, later this month. And the show must go on! But it will be a virtual Theatre Royal in your own home. You will be able to see the The Show Must Go On on-line, free of charge. This film explores wellness in the creative industries and there is an on-line discussion and Q&A with the filmmakers following the film. The screening is Thursday 30th of April between 1-3pm. Here is the link . https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/the-show-must-go-on-wellnes In these worrying and confusing times, we extend our best wishes for your good health and safety in the coming months. We look forward to connecting again in the future to reboot the festival for a fantastic 2021. In the meantime please check out this great film and stay safe. Kindest regards Claire Jager, Festival Director Scottie Charalambous, General Manager

23.01.2022 ISLAND OF THE HUNGRY GHOSTS - Friday 19 July 1.30pm On an isolated island in the Indian Ocean, red crabs migrate in their millions from the jungle to the sea. A team of dedicated people are employed by the authorities to ensure they can make that journey in safety. In that same jungle there is a high security Australian detention centre where thousands of asylum seekers have been locked away indefinitely. Their only connection to the outside world is trauma counsellor Poh... Lin Lee, who, with great delicacy, shows us the agony of living in limbo. DISCUSS: Refugees Continue the conversation with a post screening discussion with producer, Alex Kelly, and Christmas Island counsellor Christine Cummins and refugee activist Janet Galbraith. 04.01.2022 AN EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!! CDOC is teaming up with the Melbourne Women in Film Festival 2021 to help promote some of the enlightening and inspiring documentaries they are showcasing in this year’s festival. MWFF is a festival that prides itself on presenting a program that showcases bold and socially relevant films and web series from gender diverse Australian, Aotearoa New Zealand and Pasifika filmmakers. With experiences online and in cinemas, MWFF celebrates its 5th edi...tion cultivating a culture of equality and some exceptional filmmaking. Running between the 17th-24th of February, we kick things off with THE WEATHER DIARIES (in cinemas and online) The Weather Diaries is a feature documentary made by a mother concerned about the future for her daughter: a musician emerging in the shadow of the twin threats of climate change and mass extinction. Filmed over 6 years, the documentary reaches its climax in 2020, as temperatures rise, bushfires rage, and the flying foxes that usually soar over Sydney die in record numbers. Ruminating on our failure to understand the effects of climate change and the implications for the future generation, The Weather Diaries is a story both personal and political.
