22.01.2022 We are still operating as normal during lockdown period but adhering to the covid rules and regulations at all times. May impact our supply of spare parts a little but thats been happening for a long while now due to Eastern States lockdowns and overseas issues. We usually have stock of fast moving parts for all items that we sell plus oils, belts , batteries etc. On a different subject, the way China has been behaving towards us lately has made us alter our outlook. It,s very difficult to avoid Chinese products but we are going to try our best, wont be easy because an awful lot of machinery etc bought into Aus from China is badged with recognisable names. We have never sold Chinese tractors and never will though.

15.01.2022 N O | O R D I N A R Y | D O G A dog trotted into the bar of a Northam hotel, leapt on to a stool, placed its paws on the counter and barked. The barman hastily ...filled a pot with beer and placed it in front of him. The dog drank thirstilyit was a hot day. All around the bar the soldiers laughed. This is not a shaggy dog storythe incident was repeated a hundred times between 1940 and 1943. The dog’s name was Dasher. His home was the army camp in Northam. To thousands of soldiers who passed through the camp during these years he was more than a mascothe was a friend. Memories of Dasher were revived last week when Mr. Des Dease, cleaning out his studio, found an old photograph of the dog. The print was a larger one of hundreds that were sold to Dasher’s admirerscivilian and militaryduring his lifetime. For Dasher was no ordinary dog. A kelpie cross, he wandered into the Northam camp one day in 1940. He liked the military atmosphere so much that he attached himself to the permanent staff. His chief military duty, self-appointed, was to lead the column on all route marches taken by trainees. Soon he was well-known to every solider in the camp and to all citizens of Northam. Off duty he went on leave with the troops. In Northam he was beloved of publicans, who kept a special pot for him, Dasher was a solid drinker but never to the point of intoxication. He was certainly never tipsy on duty and his name never appeared on a charge sheet. When his friends went on leave, he accompanied them on the bus. Few drivers objected. If they did, Dasher’s fare was paid and he was given a seat. In fact, many soldiers would give up their seat rather than see Dasher stand. His travels in the area were frequent and he was known in every camp from Northam to Leighton battery. On one occasion his admirers attempted to smuggle himper medium of a kitbagaboard a troopship, but he was discovered before the ship sailed. He made his way back to Northam. So popular did he become there, that he was made a member of the sergeants’ mess. Cooks used to save him special scraps from the kitchen. Then, one day in 1943, Dasher ran jubilantly from behind a bus that had brought him back from leave and was run down by a car. All Northam sorrowed at his death. Hundreds of pictures of the sadly-missed dog were sold each week. Des Dease, who was a photographer attached to the Northam camp at the time, took the original. The print he found in his studio has been retouched and will be presented to Army Headquarters at Swan Barracks. Dasher, were he alive, would doubtless jump for joy to see his picture in such a high place. The picture would remind others, too, that even during wars there is time for simpler thingslike friendships with a dog.
