"This research project is being undertaken to explore the needs of Indigenous HDR students and supervisors of Indigenous HDR students and how Indigenous HDR students are enabled to succeed. 11.01.2022 Congratulations to Dr Bing Liu on graduating with a PhD from the College of Education at Charles Darwin University. Dr Liu’s thesis The Way to Internationalisation by Two Universities: a Chinese and an Australian Perspective drew on Constructivist Grounded Theory and insights from Asia as Method (K.H. Chen, 2010) to explore the experiences of university staff (academics and professionals) lecturers and senior managers as they engaged in institutional work to progress intern...ationalisation in a Chinese and an Australian university. The research presents a participation-orientated grounded theory of internationalisation that explains how internationalisation in higher education aims to construct a shared social platform. This is achieved through committed individual participation in an interactive social process of knowledge production across borders, within and beyond university settings, and through the cooperative facilitation of institutional and individual efforts. The Asia as Method framing of the research highlighted cultural and historical perspectives in the study of internationalisation and generated a theoretical framework for engaging senior higher education managers and academics, governments and industry partners in policymaking to promote sustainable and socially engaged internationalisation. In these times and after such a major effort to achieve this completion it is indeed truly sad that Dr Liu and many other research candidates cannot share celebration of their achievements through public graduation ceremonies. However, that time will come. CONGRATULATIONS Dr Liu.

05.01.2022 A big thank you to A/Prof Zane MaRhea from Monash University for providing a thought provoking and enlightening presentation to our research community. Zane drew on analysis of Indigenous and Asian pedagogies to pose questions: What is the role of Wisdom ‘in education? What is ‘higher ‘in Higher Education? We are still talking.
