25.01.2022 NASA needs you! There is a unique opportunity for CEITE students to take part of NASA’s Lucy mission in Darwin from October 30th to November 6th. We have secured limited volunteer spaces for CDU students. These volunteers will be able to help with the NASA observations near Darwin. Volunteers need to be full participants, and they must attend both practice sessions (Nov 1 and 2), the dress rehearsal (Nov 3), and the occultation (Nov 4). They will have to stay to the end of ea...ch night’s work. Please notice that on the 3rd and 4th work will end quite late; returning to Ridges Palmerston (their base) probably well after 3 AM. This opportunity is open to undergraduate and postgraduate Engineering students, who can use (or not) the volunteering hours with NASA for IPM300 and PRT501, as well as science and environmental science students with an interest in remote sensing and IT students. If you would like to join us in this once in a life time experience, please contact [email protected] ASAP as activities will start in 10 days.

01.01.2022 The CDU international field intensives are back and they are better than ever! CDU first field intensive is the Borneo Field Intensive from the 2nd to the 15th of February 2020. This is a New Colombo Plan field intensive, which means you will receive a $3,000 AUD grant to cover the costs of your trip.... It gets better! This field intensive will run as a 2020 Semester 1 SID300 (Professional Practice in Science), which means you will get 10 credit points towards your degree. Science, Environment and IT students from CDU can enroll on this field intensive. This unit revolves around hands on projects which will be tailored to the students areas of expertise. Field Intensives in remote areas are the best opportunity for students to practice team work, problem solving and working independently skills required in most jobs, independent of your area. They will also learn about methods and tools such as GPS surveying, camera traps and other modern environmental science techniques to study this unique environment. If you would like to be part of this amazing experience, you must send an expression of interest to Carla Eisemberg ([email protected]). Expressions of interest close on the 25th of November. We have limited spaces and they will be allocated based on who sends the expression of interest first. This field intensive will take students enrollments from to the heart of the Bornean jungle to map the unique flora and fauna of this endangered, biodiverse environment. Field sites will include the World Heritage Mulu National Park, Sarawak, Malaysia and the pristine Ulu Temburong National Park, Brunei Darussalam. Please notice that the New Colombo Plan is open only to Australian undergraduates studying at Australian universities. Unfortunately international students are not eligible according to the New Colombo Plan guidelines.
