18.01.2022 *** Qld, Southern Australian & Australian Cowboy Dressage 2020 Championships cancelled*** With much regret, it has been decided to cancel the 2020 Queensland, Southern Australian & Australian Cowboy Dressage Championships. With the ever-changing climate surrounding COVID-19 & the restrictions around the border, means many people who would like to attend, are unable to do so. This along with the safety of our riders, volunteers & support people are at the forefront of our deci...sion-making process. Please know, this decision was not made lightly. For all those who had nominated in the Championships, we will in touch as soon as possible. We look forward to being back in 2021 & spending quality time with you all. Please stay safe in this difficult & uncertain time. Kindest regards, Cowboy Dressage Australia Team
12.01.2022 Leg-yield The horse is almost straight, except for a slight bend away from the direction in which he moves. The horse’s inside legs pass and cross in front of t...he out-side legs. In the leg-yield, the horse is moving sideways and forward, away from the rider’s inside leg. The leg-yield is performed in the walk and jog. The Aids: The rider places more weight on the inside. The rider’s inside leg is positioned behind the girth and pushes forwards and sideways, keeping as far as possible in time with the movement. The rider’s outside leg is placed in a ‘guarding’ position behind the girth, preventing the horse from moving its hindquarters too far side- ways. It is also responsible for maintaining the forward movement. The rider inside rein is creating the bend moving the shoulders. The rider ‘gives’ sufficiently with the outside rein to allow the flexion while still maintaining a steady contact with the horse’s mouth. He also uses the outside rein to prevent the horse bending its head and neck excessively and falling out onto the outside shoulder. A. - Enter Working Walk. 8. - Circle Left inside the box. Leg Yield Right to QJ Working Walk. JE. - Continue Leg Yield Working Jog. E. - 20 m Circle Working Lope Left Lead or Free Jog. E. Spiral Back to -8 at the Free Walk. 08.01.2022 The Back The back, even more than the stop, is a movement in which the horse’s balance will be shown. A horse in balance will move straight backward with diagon...al steps of the same length of stride as he moving forward. When the fore and hind legs are diagonally opposite, the RIGHT diagonal( red) consists of the LEFT hind and the RIGHT fore, and the LEFT diagonal (green) of the RIGHT hind and the LEFT fore. The value of the back is to achieve a balanced horse with light rider’s hand, which creates a light horse in self-carriage. There are different ways to ask a horse to back. I back my horse one stride at the time, by alternating my hands and legs. I move my shoulders slightly back, shift my legs forward (deep seat), and rotate my pelvis backwards. For the RIGHT DIAGONAL with light contact. I hold my LEFT HAND stationary (up), while my RIGHT HAND (down) is connected to the horse’s RIGHT DIAGONAL PAIR through the rein to the bit with light contact. For the LEFT DIAGONAL with light contact. I hold my RIGHT HAND stationary (up), while my LEFT HAND (down) is connected to the horse’s LEFT DIAGONAL PAIR through the rein to the bit. In the back, when correctly executed, each joint of the hind legs flexes due to the additional weight resting for the fraction of a second on it, causing a compression of the joints. This creates a suppling of the horse’s hindquarters and loin region. The good back is slow and without resistance.

05.01.2022 Eitan's 88 Brand Online Educational Program is ready to rock n roll. Sign up now and start your path to inspiration, enlightenment and better horsemanship. http...://cowboydressage.info/ Horses have been my passion and my art all my life. They have taught me not just a great deal about horsemanship but about life. They showed me that there is a moral code between all living things. I often think where is that young rider who could ride all day and still couldn’t get enough of the horse. In those younger fast years I thought I knew everything. Now I am a bit more worn, a bit slower but a whole lot wiser. Wet blankets are as good for the rider as well as the horse. I had to grow to find that there was so much to learn. It is my desire to leave as much of me behind for others. I want them to learn from my lifetime of experience and knowledge. What I share with you here is a torch for you to carry forward. It is my hope that it enriches and inspires you. Enjoy the ride. Eitan 8
04.01.2022 Cowboy Dressage from the Ground Up. The Biomechanics of Lunging The aim of lunging is to supple your horse. meaning that you’re making your horse more balance,... but also stronger. Why Lunging? With the rise in popularity of natural horsemanship methods where the horse is usually worked loose in a round pen, the tradition of lunging a horse as the basis for its training and preparation for ridden work has perhaps lost popularity in recent years. However, lunging a horse properly has certain attributes which make it gymnastically a far superior method of training to loose work. find out more at : Eitan’s 88 Brand Online Educational Membership Program. 04.01.2022 Riding for the Brand! By David Vinson, Ph.D. A brand is a mark used by cowboys to identify cattle on a ranch. Ranchers are typically proud of their brand. Bran...ds have stories behind them. For example, one of Texas’ largest existing ranches, the Four-Sixes (6666), earned its name by being won in a game of poker. While poker may not be the driving force of everyone’s brand, to those who play the game, it has meaning. It’s important. And, it represents something big. It’s personal. To a cowboy, ranching is more than a job. The brand is more than a mark on cattle. To a cowboy, the brand represents a symbol of values, commitment, and relationships. The people on the ranch are family, and they share a bond with each other by a symbol binding them together. When cowboys feel this connection, they call it Riding for the Brand. Growing up in West Texas, Riding for the Brand meant that one was committed to a team, family, or anything else that manifested ownership and pride. Those people and those things were burned into the hearts of those who lived there. They became the fibers of tradition. 03.01.2022 IT IS FREE! Cowboy Dressage World Membership With a Handshake. A grassroots movement within the horse industry suggests many of us yearn for the good ol’ days when a handshake and a person’s word was his bond. It is a code of honor still practiced by some horsemen and horsewomen today. Yet for most folks, a contract is regarded as a necessary tool of doing business. An entire generation is missing the feeling of pride of being known as a person whose handshake and word is a...s reliable and ironclad as a written legal document. Please click on the link to become a member of Cowboy Dressage World. It cost you NOTHING just your HANDSHAKE. http://cowboydressageworld.com/?page_id=43 Cowboy Dressage is growing nationally and internationally. We are humbled by the enthusiasm it is generating and its enormous projected inuence on the equine community. Such rapid expansion, while exciting, also places our sense of being a close-knit community and our grassroots identity in jeopardy. And while no formal Cowboy Dressage organization currently exists, we believe we need a meaningful gesture that signies our commitment to our shared values, vision and to one another. Membership With a Handshake is our answer. We feel good about it and think you will too. No annual fees or group passwords are required for Cowboy Dressage World membership, but we do have expectations of ourselves and of you: With our handshake and our word we promise to: ~ continue to educate and teach as much as possible in all formats. ~ keep Cowboy Dressage simple and uncomplicated. ~ provide tests, rules and information to everyone who wishes to show ~ support and educate individuals outside the show ring who want to learn and improve as horsemen and -women. ~ strive to maintain Cowboy Dressage as a grassroots, community-focused movement. ~ ensure Cowboy Dressage is accessible to everyone regardless of their income or status within the horse world. Whether they show, trail ride, barrel race, cut, rein or just love horses, this will be a place they can hang their hats and be proud. ~ and most of all, to look for the try in you, the Cowboy Dressage World members. With your handshake and your word, you pledge to try to: ~ become the person others can trust with a handshake and your word. ~ exemplify the Cowboy Dressage way of life and nd the courage to chase your dreams. ~ not allow defeat when faced with setbacks in your life and your horsemanship. ~ treat all horses and people with integrity and kindness. ~ look for the try in your horses and always reward them. ~ look for the try in people as you travel down your horsemanship path.
