Frames, Gaits, Footfalls, Carriage and Timing in relation to correct transitions. Transitions are where good horsemen/women shine. They separate those in the know from those who struggle. Preparation, timing, and balance are key to balanced transitions. Your transition will determine the quality of your gait. Setting your horse up properly will allow you to ride him correctly without the correction that follows a poor transition. Remember that transitions are the beginning of self-carriage. Lyn Cowboy Dressage (big arena) Circles, straight lines, bend, turns on haunches and forehand. Learn the basic components of balance in each exercise for both horse and rider. Enrich the learned skills while riding a challenge test of your choice. You will ride the test and then get support, coaching and feedback. All tests will help you incorporate transitions, frame, bend, straightness and balance while riding the Cowboy Dressage Challenge Court. The court will help teach both horse and rider these key components of good horsemanship. There are tests for every level of ability of horse and rider. The feedback from Lyn after each test will be priceless and enlightening. You will be surprised how much of these skills will come into play when moving on to the cattle work. It is recommended that each rider be familiar with the layout of the court and letters. Have a test in mind you wish to ride. Tests and courts can be found at: https://cowboydressageworld.com/resources/tests/ Dave Dancing with Cows (Friday/Saturday in small round pen. Sunday at cattle pens) Taking Cowboy Dressage outside the court and putting it to use on THE RANCH. There will be CATTLE! Need we say more. Learn that the components of Cowboy Dressage are not only for the court but for good stockmanship when managing livestock. The California Vaqueros were experts with suppleness and handling livestock with a draw vs. a push as done in Texas. It turns out that the arc of our ten-meter circle becomes a perfect tool for encouraging the cattle to move with us rather than away from us. The grace demonstrated by moving this arc away from the cattle and by easing the hindquarters to the cattle and away maintaining this arc becomes the tool for Dancing with our Cattle. During the first two days of this retreat Dave will help us establish an appropriate arc or bend and then move it to and for to gracefully dance with you as the leader. You will be astounded with the effectiveness of our Cowboy Dressage used in this manner. Two days to prepare ourselves and then, the final day actually with the cattle. Format: There will be 3 continuing topics each day (7 riders per group). Each rider will have 3 days in a row of the same 3 topics with progression each day. This will allow each rider to really absorb and learn more in depth horsemanship skills and understanding of principles and application. (People will be allowed if desired to switch groups to take advantage of riding with other participants on Saturday and Sunday but there must be an equal switch to maintain the 7 riders per group. Only one switch per day, not per session.) Each session is an hour and a half with a 30-minute break between sessions. Lunch will be an hour and a half. Once the clinic day has concluded there will be a group meeting at the pole barn to discuss the day, ask questions and gather and share. We ask all riders to be in attendance. This meeting to start approximately 30 minutes after the last clinic finishes. Daily Schedule: 7:30-8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast (Pole Barn) 8:30 a.m. Morning meeting (stabling/paddock area) 9:00-10:30 a.m. Round 1 Clinic Sessions 10:30-11:00 a.m. Break 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Round 2 Clinic Sessions 12:30-2:00 p.m. Lunch Break 2:00-3:30 p.m. Round 3 Clinic Sessions 4:00 p.m. Wrap Up meeting (Pole Barn) Hotels (about 20 minutes away): Holiday Inn Express Phone: (559) 782-1200 840 S Jaye Street, Porterville, CA 93257 America's Best Value Inn Phone: (559) 306-1900 676 N Main Street, Porterville, CA 93257 Best Western Phone: 559-781-7411 350 Montgomery Avenue, Porterville, CA 93257 Other Information: Visit: www.cowboydressageworld.com for test, rules, court etc. Visit: http://lsranchnaturally.com/ ; for more information on the event location and hosts. 06.01.2022 The Cowboy Dressage Octagon That eight-sided box in the middle of the Cowboy Dressage Challenge Court is the perfect tool for groundwork. We often use the octa...gon as a pre-flight check before getting into the saddle. With a 12-foot diameter, it is the perfect size for in-hand work with most of our 12-foot natural horsemanship rope halter and leads. The presence of the ground poles helps the horse in many ways during groundwork on the lead. The poles create a visual for the horse to bend around on the lead, just as he does under saddle. For the horse that tends to crowd the handler, it also establishes a physical barrier to help remind him to stay on the circle. Circle around and change direction: After a few circles around the outside of the octagon, you can ask the horse to step through the center and change direction. You can also have the horse change direction by stopping and making a turn- on-the-haunches where the poles help the horse to remember not to step forward out of the turn. Walk and jog through the octagon: Asking the horse to travel through the center of the octagon at both the walk and the jog helps the horse to be more aware of his foot placement and stride length. Smoothly transitioning from jogging around the octagon to stepping through the octagon is an excellent exercise for any horse. Shoulder-in on the circle. You can see the horse is bent through the middle, and the inside hind leg is traveling on the same track as the outside front leg. 03.01.2022 Next Cowboy Dressage World Facebook video - Why Dressage for the Western Horse? I have been asked to do this presentation and am honored to do so. Having been... part of CDW for many years now (thanks to Lyn Ringrose Moe) I am now a level 3 judge and clinician and have judged at the CDW finals every year. (As a bit of background, I am also a USEF R Dressage judge and sport horse judge with competition and training experience to Grand Prix.) I am wondering if there are any questions people would like answered/addressed as part of this? I would be happy to include them (post on FB or e-mail me at [email protected]). Of course (being a bit of a Dressage Queen) my focus is on perfecting the rider first then applying correct principles to ANY horse. Hopefully we will all be able to ride together this year!!! Thanks to everyone! See more

02.01.2022 The myriad of EXCUSES I CLUNG TO as to why I could never compete are unacceptable: my horse is green. He has no papers. I have zero show experience. All my mone...y goes back into the horses. I don't have formal training. I haven't rode enough. There's no time. I don't even know what a show pad is. Never in a million years did I think that dressage would be the answer. Cowboy Dressage, to be specific, a sport where all the excuses in the world wouldn't be enough to turn even the most insecure team away. All you really need is a desire to communicate with your horse in the softest, subtlest way possible. And when you just focus on having fun while forming that partnership, success naturally follows (see Exhibit A: ribbons). For anyone looking to compete while improving their horsemanship, regardless of age, location, experience, or background, check out Cowboy Dressage or the wonderful people who helped grow this lifestyle: LRM Equestrian Services, Eitan Beth-Halachmy, Debbie Beth-Halachmy, Lyn Ringrose-Moe. NO EXCUSES NECESSARY!!!
