20.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the ACT The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for damaging winds and large hailstones for the... ACT including the areas of Belconnen, Civic, Hall, Gungahlin, Canberra Airport, Queanbeyan, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden Valley. The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors. For emergency help in floods and storms ring the ACTSES on 132 500.

The 2021 Early Childhood Degree Scholarship Program has commenced offering up to eight (8) individuals, currently working in the ACT non-government education and care sector, with financial assistance (funding of up to $25,000) to gain an approved early childhood degree qualification. 12.01.2022 Public Health Alert: Potential for a thunderstorm asthma event in the ACT region on Saturday 28 November 2020. We’re going to see elevated pollen levels and ...possibility of severe thunderstorms in the ACT tomorrowincreasing the risk of a thunderstorm asthma event. There is also a possibility that strong and gusty winds will raise dust impacting our air quality on Sunday 29 November. If you suffer from hay fever and/or asthma, be vigilant over the coming days for any worsening of your condition. If you’ve been diagnosed with asthma in the past, you should also be prepared for a thunderstorm asthma event, particularly if you’ve suffered or continue to suffer from hay fever. Make sure you carry a reliever (blue puffer) with you wherever you go. If you develop asthma symptoms, use your reliever (blue puffer) medication and follow your asthma action plan, if you have one. If you experience asthma symptoms that are not relieved by usual asthma treatment, you should seek further urgent medical advice. In the event of a medical emergency you should call 000. You can also protect yourself, or someone you care for, by: staying indoors with windows and doors closed staying in air-conditioned premises, and if possible, switching the air conditioner to ‘recycle’ or ‘recirculate’ to reduce the amount of dust entering the building avoiding all vigorous exercise, especially if you have a heart or lung conditions For more information visit health.act.gov.au/public-health-alerts
