24.01.2022 Clarence Valley Council votes 6-1 against mine development in the #ClarenceRiver catchments. Consider writing a letter of appreciation to the council to support their decision. Email: [email protected] ... The Clarence Catchment Alliance (CCA) No Mines Clarence Valley campaign has successfully collected over 10,000 petition signatures calling on the NSW Legislative Council to Stop Cangai Mine: The signatories to this petition are residents and visitors to the Northern Rivers and New England who wish to draw the attention NSW Parliament to the fact that mineral exploration is occurring at the historical Cangai Copper Mine site and Kungabarin Hill of the Clarence Valley. If mining were to proceed, it would impose unacceptable risks to the health of local waterways, specifically the Mann River, Clarence River and their tributaries, which are home to rare and endangered flora and fauna, and are vital to the health of our fishing, farming and tourism industries. Traditional landowners of this region, the Gumbaynggirr, Yaegl and Bundjalung people have strong connections to these lands and are united behind this petition. The undersigned petitioners, therefore, ask the Legislative Council to stop exploration or mining within the Clarence Valley and surrounding local government area. 19.01.2022 Rebooted Redbank Power Station in the Hunter seeks to burn forests biomass from NE NSW forests for energy ACTION >>> please write in to Angus Taylor questioning approvals for this supposed ‘green and clean’ plant when the ‘waste’ the company refers to is based on the 1 million tonnes pa of native forests, whole trees allocated by the DPI, and the 50% more emissions releases compared to coal, given he is in charge of EMISSIONS REDUCTIONS and energy. #BiomassAction #...NoElectricityFromForests #forestsarenotfuel #BigBadBiomass #ForestsForClimate https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=415621076476409&id=113707436667776&__cft__[0]=AZVs3jkybr6wwt8V0p--2slkBGS2FPssiB91STYyPDUF08T0-HKlW0m_93nUsMrZ2a5cfSYdLOVQ1l4WZOzGJEdl57YJWoiJsHGMEtkRDOGA3a6OQVQ88ozCaVZKKm8FAH4Ui0QmYuRs6jgept6BTqk4&__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R

19.01.2022 Our birds, bees, ground and tree dwellers may need plentiful access to cool water over the next few days as the extreme heat builds across northern NSW. Top up your bird baths and frog ponds. Stay cool and care for wildlife. Total Fire Ban, fire permits suspended.

16.01.2022 The 10 year review of federal environment laws report has been completed, but the federal government has not released the findings by Graeme Samuel. Legislation tabled by the coalition has been sent to a senate inquiry which is hearing evidence this week on the government's EPBC amendment Bill. #newnaturelaws #backtothefuture #stopextinction

14.01.2022 Another excellent critique of the Nationals "Local Land Services Amendment (Miscellaneous) Bill 2020" published in the North Coast Voices blogspot | 10 November 2020 The Bill seeks to remove several requirements for land owners to obtain development consent under Parts 4 and 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (the EPA Act). In doing so, the Committee notes that the Bill would remove local councils' ability to assess development applications, engage wi...th relevant neighbour and community stakeholders, and make recommendations regarding the proposed development changes. It may thereby impact on the rights of these stakeholders to participate in such processes and be consulted about issues that may affect them." #saveourkoalas #bushfirecrisis #logging #landdevelopment https://northcoastvoices.blogspot.com//concerns-raised-by-

14.01.2022 BREAKING! The #NSWNationals member for New England Adam Marshall MP sneaks unsanctioned amendments into the LLS Bill... is he trying to pull a swifty on the cabinet over koala habitat protections? BREAKING! 12.01.2022 High fire danger ratings this weekend and into next week. "As the landscape continues to dry out and with forecast Hot/ Dry weather expected over the coming days, now is NOT a good time to be considering any broad scale burning off. "

09.01.2022 Why is this bill so important to rush through this week when the evidence does not support the premise? This dodgy 25 metre rule has all the hallmarks of a 'political favour' delivered in a brown paper bag! #SaveOurKoalas #bushfirecrsis #protecthabitat

08.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC Week ... such a lovely film #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #NAIDOC2020

08.01.2022 The NSW upper house voted to send the Nat's LLS legislation to the koala inquiry committee, but the coalition has dumped the NSW Koala Bill altogether, reverting back to SEPP 44. "Tensions within NSW's Coalition Government over koala policy has boiled over, with a Liberal MP crossing the floor to vote down a land bill. Key points:... Liberal MP Catherine Cusack made an emotional speech to Parliament before crossing the floor Her vote meant the bill was defeated 18-19 She said the bill was about patching up a political disagreement, not protecting koalas In a speech to Parliament yesterday, Ms Cusack said she had lost faith in the process, which she said had "zero to do with protecting koalas". "It's to try to patch up a political disagreement, and I would dearly love to see that solved, but it is just too costly if it comes at the expense of koalas," she said. During debate in the Upper House, a vote was put forward to refer the koala bill to a committee that triggers a parliamentary inquiry. Liberal MP Catherine Cusack crossed the floor and voted with Labor, the Greens, the Animal Justice Party and Independent Justin Field in favour of the inquiry. Ms Cusack's vote was the decider, leaving the Liberals, Nationals, Fred Nile and One Nation one short, 18-19. Rather than have the bill examined by a parliamentary inquiry, the Government made the snap decision last night to dump the legislation altogether. The ABC understands Ms Berejiklian personally tried to persuade Ms Cusack from voting against the Government, but ultimately failed. Ms Cusack was subsequently sacked as parliamentary secretary. 07.01.2022 Act now to save bushland and koalas >> nature.org.au/bushfires Urge NSW politicians to reject these changes to the Rural Fires Act.

06.01.2022 Well said Councillor Greg Clancy. Native forest logging impacts koalas, freshwater fish, water quality and all species of fauna and flora, including increasing bushfire risks. #KillTheBill #SaveOurKoalas #ForestsForClimate

02.01.2022 Koala habitat protection is critical and the vote on LLS Act changes is not over yet ... The NSW upper house have delayed the vote on the Nationals #KoalaKillBill which means you have time to send more emails to key politicians to reject this shameful bill to weaken koala protections. #KillTheBill #SaveOurKoalas #LoggingKillsWildlife #bushfirecrisis

01.01.2022 Add your name to support an immediate federal moratorium on koala habitat clearing to save the koala: https://www.sarahhansonyoung.com/save_our_koala 6,372 have signed, the motion may go up for discussion tomorrow, Monday 30 November.... MR 23 Nov 20: The Greens will move in the Parliament for a moratorium on habitat clearing to save the koala from extinction. Off the back of the worst bushfires in history which killed a third of NSW’s koala population and destroyed millions of hectares of habitat across the country, no approvals for developments on koala land should be given. The Morrison Government has had seven years to develop a recovery plan for the koala, a census isn’t enough, the species needs real protection under our national environment laws. It’s clear the government isn’t serious about saving the koala and cannot be trusted to protect it with or without a census. "It’s clear the the Environment Minister can’t be trusted to protect the koalas from big development or mining, so the parliament must. " Senator Sarah Hanson-Young The Australian Greens #SaveOurKoalas #stopextinction #auspol2020
