12.01.2022 So, you may have noticed that I’ve been rather quiet on my socials for the past few months. To be honest, like many of you, my mind has been elsewhere and, quite frankly, with all that’s happening in Melbourne, I’ve found it difficult to find the motivation. I gave myself a break from socials. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been scrolling through my feed every other day, admiring gorgeous pre-rona wedding pics, but having rescheduled nine months’ worth of ceremonies and not h...aving any idea of when i’ll be able to get my business back on track has been a little demotivating. But life is full of disappointments and we have to find the silver linings, right? Though every day is a little like groundhog day in the Hughes household (trackies, type, Zoom, wine, Netflix, repeat), I have absolutely loved being able to spend more time with Chris and the girls. Supervising remote learning hasn’t been too bad (but only AFTER I realised that I should only supervise, not teach!) and time to refine my business processes has been valuable. So, I’m back from my little Facebook hiatus and ready to relive some beautiful #beforetheban ceremonies and hopefully, in the not too distant future, i’ll get back doing what I love. Most of my November and December 2020 couples have postponed their large weddings, but a few are hanging in there, hoping we'll make it to step 4 (no new cases for 14 days), so that up to 50 people can attend their ceremony.... The third step (10 people at a metro Melbourne ceremony) is within sight. With a 14-day rolling average of 10 cases, I'm hopeful Victoria will achieve its 5 case average target next weekend. 07.01.2022 My favourite wedding day moments: 1. The arrival of the guest(s) of honour. Excitement levels are extremely high at this moment.... 2. The processional. I love observing all the emotions the entrance elicits. Tears are especially wonderful. 3. Laughing with my couple and their guests throughout the ceremony. Because marriage ceremonies should ALWAYS be enjoyable. 4. The certificate signing. A time for a quick and animated ceremony debrief before the couple becomes swamped by their family and friends. It's also lovely to watch the couple interact with their witnesses (especially when the witnesses are their mums). We held candles and stood in silence and deep thought as our elderly neighbour John played ‘The Last Post’ and read ‘The Ode’. What a sobering experience it was. My family and I are so very grateful for the sacrifices made by our service men and women, past and present. ABIA Weddings Australia Awards results aside, I wish I was sitting at a table at Crown Melbourne, drinking bubbles with my industry buddies and forgetting to eat.
