25.01.2022 Wk7 Highlights: discussing Norse mythology, deciphering Roman numerals, creating static with balloons, animal studies with miniature horses and playing games like UNO, Among Us and Touch Footy. We've also had some great chats in our end of day reflections when we ask "What is one thing you have learned today and one thing you would change?" At Celebrate Learning, we value community, which is why we make time for friendships and talking about how we treat others. 25.01.2022 Wk10 Highlight: our end of term cosplay! We also roleplayed how to deal with a 'Karen' in the workplace, helped wire up a car's trailer connection, practiced using chopsticks and finished a puzzle. What a phenomenal term! 22.01.2022 Wk6 Highlights: learning how to dress for an interview then op-shopping down the road! We also had new friends join our cosplay team, started an Explore the World challenge, tested our kicking and catching skills on the oval, watched a documentary about wolves and learned about respect in Japanese culture. My personal highlight was when I asked teens in our end of day reflection what they would change about the day and I had multiple teens on multiple days say, "Nothing, today was awesome!" 21.01.2022 School damaged this teen's confidence, but since joining Celebrate Learning she has become a vocal advocate for self-directed education. 18.01.2022 Some learners genuinely learn best from textbooks and worksheets, and this website provides all that plus more in a handy digital platform. It includes voiced explanations as well as short and long-response questions all with instant feedback. 09.01.2022 Don't ever be ashamed of wanting to leave the school system. Some teens are ready for a full time job or trade apprenticeship. A different alternative for teens who aren't sure what they want to do instead of school is to register for homeschooling. Homeschoolers are eligible to do TAFE one day a week and they can also start a few uni subjects online to figure out what course really interests them. Homeschoolers also have the time and freedom to start a business, get an inte...rnship or do some volunteering. Teens who do want an ATAR score can enrol in Distance Education or get private tutoring to pass the senior exams. Many teens finish grade 12 and don't really know what to do with their life. 06.01.2022 Let's put a stop to the "jokes" that cut deeper every time. Let's be friendly to the newbie even when everyone else is leaving them out. Let's be brave enough to report bullying when we see it, in person or online. If you need help, be brave enough to reach out. At Celebrate Learning, we have heard many tragic stories of bullying in schools. It is far too common amongst young people today, which is why we give our members plenty of opportunities to build safe friendships, to talk about what needs to change and to meet with a mentor to make asking for help easier. 05.01.2022 Farewell to the legend who inspired me to quit teaching and start Celebrate Learning. 12 months ago I borrowed this book from our local library and in it discovered the story of @north.star.teens and @liberatedlearners. Years before, Sir Ken Robinson's famous TED talk challenged my trust in the traditional school system. I owe so much to this great man, and I for one will continue searching for new, creative ways to make learning enjoyable and accessible to all.
