25.01.2022 Show your support for our NSW farmers and help the Ski Club help the farmers directly through drought relief!!

18.01.2022 One of the areas most highly regarded Celebrants, Val Dean has announced her retirement from her role as a celebrant. Always professional and dignified while I didn't have the privilege of attending one of her services, her demeanour and input to discussion at celebrants meetings was always a pleasure to listen to. Best Wishes Val in your retirement you certainly were an asset to our profession of Celebrancy. Autumn hangs on which is great for April weddings. Some dates still available for the late Autumn early winter.

17.01.2022 Appreciated catching up with Barry Young this morning for a coffee and some advice on Funeral Celebrancy. Barry has officiated at some 1400 funerals over a 20 year period. He has written several books on celebrancy and other topics but his books are "Industry Musts" He was happy to impart information and tips. It's great to have iconic professionals like Barry and John Burke in Yarrawonga,to draw on for information, support and encouragement as unofficial Mentors. I will be the Celebrant at my second funeral in Yarrawonga on Sunday morning at Yarrawonga Mulwala Funerals in Ely St. Yarrawonga.

16.01.2022 Interesting commentary from fellow celebrants about a recent wedding in the North East where the Bride was 90 minutes, one and a half hours late. I think it's the height of rudeness to do that to your husband, relatives and friends who were left standing around like a proverbial. Older people wondering what is going on.While I dislike being booked for two on the one day she may have been left lamenting had the celebrant had another to attend to which could well happen in this Spring wedding season. Fashionably late is OK but "look at me" Late certainly isn't! That's my opinion. I

16.01.2022 What a busy Friday it was. Radio at 6.00am then privileged to lead a funeral at Lester and Son at 2.30 then off to Moonee Valley for a dinner with Susan Alberti as guest speaker. An incredible lady who has seen a lot of sad and difficult times but whose resilience, charitable outlook make her an outstanding Australian. Pioneered women's football against enormous opposition and odds and now delights in its early success. Just something that worries me is that she is maybe out of favour at Western Bulldogs but she said to get out of things when you are on top-14 years on the board and I am sure shook Few "old heads" up. Did have the pleasure of meeting her and her husband Colin. Slept well before heading home in the glorious sunshine. Off to wedding catch up tomorrow with a delightful couple.

15.01.2022 Enjoyable day at Commercial Club Albury last Thursday for annual Ongoing Professional Development. Great day with lots of learning with little hints on how to improve our delivery of various celebratory services. Some people don't like but nothing like a class atmosphere with great interchange of ideas. Some were a bit beyond me and what I would be comfortable with but overall a great day. Getting good enquiry for Spring weddings.

13.01.2022 Have just completed a two day course in Funeral Celebrancy at the Gordon Institute. Very good program well delivered in a very way. learnt a lot from the two presenters Amanda and Ann who worked so well together but on occasions had differing viewpoints. Great opportunity to participate, ask questions and do a mock presentation in front of class. Most rewarding two Sunday's of learning. Gives me great confidence heading towards the future knowing I have the competencies to Celebrate a Funeral !

11.01.2022 Meet Connor. Connor rides bikes. He rides pretty hard too. And he also knows a thing or two about Suspension Servicing. If you’ve been hitting the trails prett...y hard (or moderately hard for that matter) you probably need to get your fork and shock serviced. Give Connor a call. He’ll look after you. Promise.

10.01.2022 Have just returned from officiating a wedding in the country. Bride, groom and two witnesses. Lots of love and laughter. Vows were sensational. Now to prepare for my third funeral in eight days on Friday. They also take considerable time but it's comforting to know that you have "got it right" Last Sunday was pleased to co M.C. The launch of Helen Haines campaign for Indi. A real buzz !

10.01.2022 As part of my celebrancy services, I am attending two days of training in Funeral Celebrancy at the Gordon Institute in Geelong this Sunday and the following one. Great opportunity to also spend time with Angela and Pat plus Benson the Golden Retiever. As I transition to retirement I believe this will prove to be a great addition to what I can offer as a celebrant. I am quite excited by the challenge. On a lighter note, no I can't take bookings without a date but let them know I Am about ! LOL!

09.01.2022 Interesting to note that with passing of legislation re marriage equality that a gathering of Celebrants on Sunday for an in service trading day that very few same sex marriage enquiries have been received and only one or two booked to date. To me this indicates that couples aren't rushing in amid the media hoopla but are taking their time and in due course will make their commitment of marriage when they are ready, which in my view is good. Marriage is for life. On a personal note Maureen and I will celebrate 34 years on Sunday 21 January of married life and have four children. Plenty of dates available for Autumn but remember that a celebrant must have formal notification of 30 days notice.

09.01.2022 Calling all Border Brides and Grooms, I understand that weddings can be expensive with the average wedding costing in excess of $30000 according to ASIC.com.au. Did you know my fee structure is affordable yet my first class presentation and service is not compromised. Contact me today to discuss your special day on 0408575825.

07.01.2022 Away from Weddings & Funerals, I had a "First" last night when I was Pledge Master at a function sponsored by Indigo Speakers group where five of their members mentored over a period Five people from various charitable groups on a need their particular group needs funds for. Held just out of Yackandandah on a lovely property with sensational views after the five speakers had Pitched to the audience I was tasked to seek donations from the audience for each of thegroups. Scouts... liking to upgrade toilet facilities at Baranduda plus a canvas shelter to allow outdoor activity irrespective of weather,a Nepalese orphanage that needs a computer for education of students, girls self esteem/awareness group and Kangaloola animal shelters need for a Solar battery system to keep power bills minimal. Again the generosity of our community came to the fore with more than $12,000 raised before I left last night with more pledges to come. A great social night in a spirit of giving for the benefits of others and education for the guests ! Congratulations to organisers and the generous people of our area ! See more

07.01.2022 The things we sometimes take for granted ! A couple of weeks ago I bought some adhesive signs for the car advertising Wedding and Independent Funeral celebrant. Have been surprised by the number of people who weren't aware of the fact that when having a chapel or cemetery funeral you can choose your own celebrant. Generally the funeral homes will give a choice of 2 or 3 but if there is one that you know and trust then you can advise the director that you want a certain person to conduct the funeral. With the cold weather with us now, the number of weddings has slowed considerably but Spring will be with us in less than 3 months so those looking to spring should get mobile and organise their celebrant. Time gets away ! That's it for now, Des.L 0408 575 825.

04.01.2022 Great success- I have completed my new website. Please feel free to pop over to Desmondlonergan.vpweb.com.au to bask in my IT skills (or lack there of) Big thanks to everyone who offered me help with this.

03.01.2022 After some years of thinking about it I am currently working on a webpage/site but not being very computer savvy, it is driving me to drink. I will keep working on it, why when you do what it says doesn't it do so. Does it know who it's dealing with ? Will keep trying !

01.01.2022 "Wedding Season" is upon us with glorious sunny days just what Brides & Grooms look for in that Special Day. Best Wishes to all as they prepare for the biggest day of their lives. Enjoy it and try not to worry unnecessarily- sometimes easier said than done. Gender, age or status doesn't come into it, so long as it is love and commitment. Bookings now being taken for Summer /Autumn weddings , any time for that matter. Just putting final touches my next wedding to be held at "Waddingtons" at Kergunyah. I am looking forward to the day in seeing the young couple make that wonderful life long commitment. SBS had an interesting "Insight" on Tuesday night with the topic being "online dating" for older people. Very honest views proving that age has nothing to do with the need for love and romance ! Worth viewing on "iView".
