23.01.2022 Celtic Affairs would like to congratulate Moorabbin City Pipe Band who won The Victoria Pipe Band Championships Grade 2 competition under newly appointed pipe-major Simon Blackshaw Jnr and leading drummer Daniel Staley. What a great start for the new pipe major.

22.01.2022 CUARAN, BROUGE, PUMP, PAMPOOTIE, BOG SHOE all are used to describe this common Highland Footwear. Modern day Highland Dance Shoes and Ghillie Brogues originate... from this humble shoe. Martin Martin a visitor to the Highlands wrote in 1703 ~ The shoes anciently wore, were a piece of the hide of a deer, cow or horse, with the hair on, being tied behind and before with a point of leather." Edmund Burt, a Englishman visiting the Highlands in the 1730s wrote ~ They are often barefoot, but some I have seen shod with a kind of pumps made out of a raw cow hide with the hair turned outward. They are not only offensive to the sight, but intolerable to the smell of thosewho are near them. By the way, they cut holes in their brogues though new made, to let out the water when they have far to go, and rivers topass; this they do to prevent their feet from galling." This is a pair we reproduced using tanned hide.

The robust backpack straps keep the bag firmly on your back when travelling, while the chest strap and waist belt make long journeys a breeze. And is suitable for carry on luggage. PAUL HUGHES I have to start by saying that I really like the Fusion Bagpipe Case. On my initial view of the case, I was worried it would be too big to carry around. I compared it to other cases we use at Scots and PBC and it is a little bigger and wider but has a lot more room to hold all the gear. The look of the case is very modern and sharp looking, I think people will like that a lot. The pipes sit in the case well and the strapping help to keep everything secure. The extra pockets are great and would certainly come in handy with all the piping junk we collect. I would certainly recommend the case to players. Paul Hughes Head Piping Teacher & Band Master
