16.01.2022 The Capertee Valley community is currently engaged in a community wide art project called Capertee Weaving Water . They are looking for people from the area to join them online and when possible in person to learn weaving, talk about hydrology, and make a huge woven work that will be on display at an exhibition event in Capertee Valley this November. If you'd like to join in, please visit their facebook group and ask to join in. Sorry city folk, this one is just for the locals. https://www.facebook.com/groups/weavingwater/

13.01.2022 Next up at WAYOUT: Obsolete? by Fiona MacDonald Obsolete? proposes that the museum itself is an engineered machine for achieving certain objectives. The artist works with photomontage to transform registration photographs in the collection of yesterday’s bearers of imagined capital accumulation, here propelled into heroic action. (Medical photographer Mike Oakey took the photos.) We hear the wheels creaking as her tin apparatus of Otherness sets out on the rocky road from the... inequality of a company town to equality. Other images dust off the rust and transform dross to gold, at least metaphorically, with an Olympian pillar of typewriters or a Herculean set of timepieces ticking together like worker bees in the hive. Fiona MacDonald’s Obsolete? collages mirror the wildlands of community collections and veer from the anti-canonical and comic to the profound, etched with individual hopes, follies and tragedies: a strategy that sheds light on how in-groups assign value and claim History. Watch this space for our soon to be released callout for proposals!! Again huge thanks to everyone who pitched in and to Scotty "The Ledge" Perrin for his absolute mastery of the painted medium. So good!

11.01.2022 Kandos' very own poet laureate, Terry Yates is launching his latest book of poems on his radio show on KRR next Sunday. He has asked friends from around Australia to record themselves reading the poems and will be playing them across his broadcast. I've had a preview and can testify that it will be a beautiful event, well worth tuning in. This Sunday I'll be glued to the wireless!

10.01.2022 A great project we were fortunate enough to be able to support!

09.01.2022 If you've been watching all our activity and wondering where we get the energy, this blog post about our WAYOUT gang is for you. This group of mostly regional artists meet every week online to talk art, tour each other's studios and develop the projects that are becoming what WAYOUT does. Speaking of developing projects, we will shortly be launching our exhibition proposal callout, so stay tuned for that one.... https://cementa.com.au//2020-08-07-the-wayout-gang-and-the

08.01.2022 Lindsay Kelly is continuing her Cementa19 work online with a zoom powered online Anzac biscuits baking workshop. Its a great way to connect across all the social isolation we have been dutifully generating, to hang out with others, pick up some tips and knowledge. If that doesn't convince you, don't forget that in the end you will have biscuits! https://www.facebook.com/events/155633862421302/

08.01.2022 The working bee is go! Day one and almost a full coat on the whole space. What a magical team!!

08.01.2022 Next Saturday, the North East Wiradjuri Cultural Centre will be hosting a conversation around cultural burning and land management. After last year's fires this is an essential conversation around how we manage fire risk in a changing climate.

07.01.2022 Deborah Kelly has been in Kandos over the last week, working non stop with The Women With Knives collective to produce a body of work as part of a large project she is mounting. This is very exciting for us, as WWK was formed during Deborah's residency in preparation of her work for Cementa19. The collective has persisted on its own steam since its inception (with a sabbatical for COVID) and so to have Deborah return to engage the group in this amazing project feels like completing the circle, or should I say cycle, cause of course she will have to come back!

07.01.2022 The project that just keeps on giving. A Great little video about one of the engagements as a part of the Artist, Farmer, Scientist project. Enjoy!

07.01.2022 remember the good old days when all we had to worry about was drought and bushfires... Good times! https://cementa.com.au//2020-03-29-cementa19-showreel-is-h

07.01.2022 Deadline for WAYOUT CALLOUT closes in 5 days!!!

06.01.2022 So this has happened! The idea for Fermenta has been kicking around since just after the first Cementa festival (we needed a drink after that). Its amazing that we are finally getting to try it out. Its gonna be an amazing event and part of the strategy for kick starting our local economy post COVID and post bushfire. It is still early days in terms of planning and we will be reaching out to get folk involved, so stay tuned. If this is your kinda gig, I recommend booking accomodation now.

05.01.2022 This looks good!

05.01.2022 There is no way of expressing how proud we are of the current exhibition at WAYOUT - "Paper Hollywood What?" by Gordon Smith, a young local artist with autism and intellectual disability. Diagnosed as non verbal, Gordon uses his ability in drawing, sculpture and film-making to eloquently express his world. His work monsters the monsters, remixing fantasy and reality to create a world at once dark and innocent, disturbing, fun and always fascinating. Open at WAYOUT (71 Angus Ave, Kandos) until 31 October. Our opening hours are Thu - Sat 10am-2pm

03.01.2022 Come along for Crafterzoom, a weekly lockdown catch-up. 1pm every Saturday, Cementa’s lurking curatorial advisor, Bec Dean will host this informal gathering of crafternators. Have a chat and a cuppa, make and do, and share your work, crafty tips and advice. To sign up leave a comment saying you want to join in the comments and Bec will send you the sign in!

03.01.2022 Fiona MacDonald's exhibition Obsolete? opened at WAYOUT on Saturday to COVID safe crowds last night. It was so nice to have a modest gathering of local folk together, and for such an amazing exhibition. Hopefully it will be the first baby step in the direction of having more such gatherings (COVID allowing). Congratulations Fiona, great looking show! WAYOUT is open 10am to 2pm Thu Fri Sat. If you haven't seen it yet, come down and check it out. 71 Angus Ave

02.01.2022 Orana Arts will be hanging out with us at WAYOUT this Thursday to talk to folk interested in putting their hand up for up to $5k in regional arts funding. Orana Executive Director Alicia Leggett will be in Kandos from 1-3pm this Thursday to talk to anyone wanting to know more about this opportunity. Let them know you are coming via email at [email protected] to reserve a consultation time.
